  1. Looking for the PAL version and happy to pay in full straight up - cheers
  2. Here are some more pics of my latest creations for those who aren't following it on FB
  3. Thanks, stay tuned - currently have a PS2 , PS2 slim , Dreamcast and Amiga CD32 getting the treatment!
  4. Here are some new pics - Lynx , and a Zelda themed SNES and Gamecube under construction - enjoy!
  5. Very nice work! Similar colour scheme to what I ended up choosing for my Zelda SNES and gamecube project - you can check those out at: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Colour-your-Console-by-mattyg/125208394171209?ref=ts do you use any bonding agents? Keep it up - awesome!
  6. It's important to know the difference for a few reasons: Firstly: The tension between Sony US and Sony Japan at the time was important from an historical point of view and the arguments over what the playstation was to be called were discussed in length by interviews Edge magazine did in their anniversary edition 18 months ago. Secondly: western journos at the time shared Sony US's belief that the name playstation was" too feminine" and with no regard for its actual name continued to call it PSX despite it being wrong. It worked well for a number of plublications that aimed their patronage at a "hip" demographic. It also meant that they could use the term without legally having to pay Sony any royalties. Thirdly: If I ordered and payed a substantial sum for a PSX and what I got was a "Playstation" I would be royally pissed off.
  7. In an effort to revamp our decaying CBD an arts organisation has procured sites free of rent and refurbed them into urban art galleries and craft shops. Among hundreds of applications in the current round of offers yours truly has been chosen! both my coloured consoles and photographs of my collection will be on display and for sale in an urban gallery as soon as a site becomes available. A link to the organisation and to view updates on what's happening you can visit my FB page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Colour-your-Console-by-mattyg/125208394171209 Thanks for everyones ongoing support!
  8. Always get confused when people refer to the PS as PSX. Whilst Sony of America wanted to go with the production name PSX because they felt Playstation was not masculine enough , Sony Japan never allowed it. A PSX is actually a PS2 with a hard drive video recorder that only saw release in Japan.
  9. I also suggest displaying in 4:3 . I have also found that some of the cheaper plasmas that only have a 640 x 480 res actually do a decent picture for retro consoles.
  10. If you check the other thread you may see that this is well and truly underway ! There is already a homebrew tool kit for both mac and pc in the works and a lot of us on the 3Do scene a very excited about this new development.
  11. agreed that anyone can do "similar". This thread as well as my FB page is there to inspire others as much as to create any income for myself. Realistically I would have to halve my existing costs to even think about selling off shore. Remember that I use bonding chemicals and a commercial spray booth when doing my work - I too experimented with primers and hand sprays but was never truly impressed. I thank all for their ongoing support of what I do and especially Vic for his honest reviews As I have said before - the consoles I do for myself are often received either not working or in extremely poor condition - I see what I do as breathing new life into what would normally become damaging land fill thanks again everyone!
  12. I thought he was a Chev? always inspirational Vic! .........this one is for the Princess Peach fans.................
  13. We could finally be only hours away from a successful 3DO homebrew toolkit! This is massive news for the 3DO community - it is over 15 years in the making and has been the result of much hard work by some members of the 3DO Zero forums and associated fans See the progress here: My link
  14. There are far worse consoles than those you mentioned - the Apple Pippin , the Casio Loopy (I do have one of these so I can attest to its dismality) , any of the VHS tape systems......and so on. Perhaps you should retitle it "my five worst US released consoles" as opposed to claiming the entire VG history? .................just a thought...........
  15. Whilst not exactly a "classic console" here is my Bumblebee inspired PS3
  16. I like it. Looks more like egg shell than true matte, though. BITD, I did my original Turbo Duo as slightly soft/off white in pure matte (special "plastic dye" paint with a beautiful spray tip that gave an incredible finish. I still have it to this day, but over the years it got some wear and tear on it ). Are you using any special plastic etching/bonding primer first, before applying the paint? Yes bonding agents are used - different strengths depending on the plastic - took a bit of experimenting though. Tryed using dyes but was not happy with the result / effort ratio ...and yeah your right - more eggshell than matte.
  17. Here are a couple of restored "joystick" branded 3rd party 2600 controllers. This time a matte finish was experimented with to get as close as possible to the original texture - not quite right but not too bad! ....and don't forget my FB page colour your console by mattyg!
  18. this one was a bit of an experiment in colour - but I think it kinda works! - I now have a facebook page for my work - colour your console by mattyg - be sure to check it out!
  19. Here is my latest creation - a white Sanyo TRY 3DO !
  20. The logo on my 4 switch "woodie" box is definitely orange , the merchandise swing tags on my centipede watch and my Atari tees are all white on a redish/orangeish background .......and no offence taken - I understand where you're coming from!
  21. I was mainly referring to the orange piping and labelling on the early stuff - a lot of white logos were printed on red backgrounds for merchandise swing tags etc - the red used was bordering on being orange so I took some liberties with it. .....and I am glad it looks more like a GF grill or a vacuum cleaner rather than the old toilet seat
  22. I appreciate the encouragement guys ! .........and yes the colours/styling were chosen for a distinct "retro" feel .Painting consoles just because you can just doesn't cut it with me.There has to be some thought as to what the finished product will look like. To me colour mods need to be different but respectful to a consoles' heritage. There will be more projects coming and I am glad I did the Jag some justice - there are so many consoles deserving of a place in history as pioneering - but are overlooked by the Grand Theft Halo Warfare Resistance VI crowd
  23. Good point! but still involved atari making a deal with Philips - Ninty's R & d team were already familiar with the intricasies of disk drives - leaving the whole CD dev to sony and Philips The bad blood was always over licensing , same as it was at Sony - hence the issues Philips had with it's mario and zelda titles. That was about the same period that Philips began their association with Atari. agreed - it would have made sense - but their respective legal departments were trying to sort out the Mario/Zelda issues - don't forget too that there had been rudimentry talks between Ninty and matsushita over M2 and their eventual collaboration on the GCN drive and Panasonic Q.
  24. Don't forget that the main reason the N64 was cart based was because they had just burnt their bridges with Philips and Sony , Panasonic & Sanyo were still connected to the 3DO and there were not too many Cd-Rom manufacturers left for them to work with. The push was on for them to release a next gen console and in the end it was easier to stick with what they knew - if Ninty had the capacity to develop their own drives they would have - but their constant battle to get someone else to develop it for them tells us that was still just beyond their capacity.
  25. This was in no means a 3DO only title but a port from the PC - it is however a great example of what not to do with a powerpoint presentation ... and yes it encompasses all that was wrong with the initial CD generation. ..........and it makes an easy target for 3DO baggers - whilst I do find AVGN amusing at times for the most part they are sponsered advertisements that appeal to lovers of toilet humour and simply rehashes wikipedia entries with no real insight.
