  1. I was in the same spot last November and wanted a new console. I have a DVD player, so that wasn't a concern. I only buy a handful of games a year, and mostly rent. A friend owns a PS2, and I rented both an XBox and a GCN before deciding. After some hemming and hawing I choose the GCN: it'll have a lot of the "multi-platform" games, plus it'll have the Nintendo franchise games like Mario, Zelda, Fzero, etc. The PS2 was decent (tho very slow load times on a lot of games), and I would pick that as a close second. The XBox left me cold: I tried several games and the only one I really liked was HALO. Plus those controllers - yuck!
  2. I tried the GR++ demo and it is really quite nice: imagine Galaga with Tempest 2000 graphics and sound effects. Although I find Yak's obsession with sheep to be more than a little disturbing...
  3. How about Super Asteroids? Nice graphics and sound, but they made it way, way too easy compared to "real Asteroids"...
  4. Geez, those covers actually do look pretty good. After reading Doug's review I think I'll have to order one!
  5. I don't own BS Gold (just BS Classic) but I've read a few mentions that there are a couple of complete "mini games" hidden in BS Gold? Has anyone uncovered them yet? Any screenshots, or at least hints as to what the games might be?
  6. I kind of prefer the Jag version to the PC version...
  7. From what info I've found, it reads like Phase Zero is very similar in style and gameplay to Hover Strike - but with much better graphics. Does that sound about right?
  8. The PowerPad is the controller sold for the Atari Falcon in Europe, I believe. It is identical to the regular Jaguar controller - except the shell is grey instead of black. Yes, the Power Pad works just fine with a Jaguar.
  9. I should add a corollary: If you do NOT like Star Raiders or other "space dogfighter" games, you probably won't like BattleSphere either. Me - I love BattleSphere - great game! Too bad it's not ported to any other platforms. I imagine that a PC version would be great to have...
  10. quote What do you think of Star Raiders? Imagine someone took the original 8-bit Star Raiders and jazzed it up with Playstation or Nintendo 64 3D graphics, and then added a bunch of cool new features like choosing your own spaceship, different types of weapons, better dogfighting AI, etc. In a nutshell, that's BattleSphere. I was always a big, big fan of Star Raiders, so to have an updated version that is bigger and better is worth $160 to me.
  11. Some common, CHEAP games that I recommend for Jaguar are: - Iron Solder (a Mechwarrior type game). - Tempest 2000 (spacey 3D shooter) - Val d'Isere Skiing & Snowboarding - Super Burnout (motorcycle racing) These games are very common and can be bought from www.goatstore.com or ebay for $10-$15 a piece. They are also very good, fun games to play.
  12. quote: Originally posted by Atari Master: [QB]I wantt to get a Jaguar but I herd there are connections that you can get only on the Jaguar.I want to know what i'm gonna need. Besides the actual system console itself, you will need a power supply, a video connection of some sort (the Jaguar was sold with an RF box and AV cables are easy to find, but SVideo cables can also be tracked down), a Jaguar controller, and at least one game cart. You should be able to buy a complete working system with all of the above including a common cart or two for about $35 US or so.

    S-Video

The cheapest place you'll get one is EBay - sometimes you can get one for about $20 or so. I bought one from Telegames.com It was $25, but they charged $12.50 for shipping and handling. Still, I think it was worth it because the pciture quality is a lot sharper and clearer.
  14. Sorry Malix, I don't agree - I spend a lot more time playing games on my N64 than my PS1...
  15. > Ever seen the Oddworld series? Unfortunately, yes.
  16. I'm not sure where some of you guys are getting this argument that "XBox will beat GameCube eventually". Back in November the XBox came out swinging and outsold the GCN right away ... for about 2 months. Since January, the XBox has lost a lot of its initial momentum and now the GCN is outselling it, despite the fact that the big ticket games like Starfox, Mario, and Zelda aren't even close to being sold in stores. What's going to happen to XBox in the fall when Starfox and Mario *are* available? If you take a look at the XBox, there aren't any equivalent "big name" games coming out; anyone who wanted HALO now has it, and frankly none of the other XBox games seem to be that much different from games available on the PS2 or GCN. I think that XBox had one chance to blow away the GCN, and it's gone. Unless Microsoft can come up with another "killer app" game like HALO, the XBox will be another "also ran".
  17. quote O-o-kay. Most folks seem to disagree with you, but I suppose it's all just a matter of taste. quote PG is decent - but I don't think it's much better than Gran Turismo 3. quote Oh brother. HALO is a good shooter, maybe even a great shooter, possibly even the "game of the year". But the best game of the last ten years? No. quote Oddworld bites, plain and simple. It's just not that interesting of a game.
  18. Not necessarily... The original RF box that came with my Jaguar is actually pretty decent. But get an S-Video if your TV supports it - or at least an AV video.
  19. quote: I would really like to know what games stand out for the Jaguar. Also I would like some views on Zero 5. BattleSphere, DOOM, Missile Command 3D, Tempest 2000, Breakout 2000, Iron Soldier, Power Drive Rally, Skyhammer, Atari Karts, Protector, Val d'Isere Skiing and Snowboarding, Wolfenstein 3D, Alien vs Predator. I own Zero5. For some reason some Jag owners get really worked up over this game. IMHO nice graphics, but gameplay-wise I think it is very mediocre.
  20. quote You're going to have difficulty finding a decent working Jaguar for that price, complete with AV, PS and a controller. I recently bought a 2nd Jag off EBay for $33 and I thought that was quite a good deal. Try checking out the Goat Store: http://www.goatstore.com They have some used Jags up now for $42, complete with a copy of CyberMorph.
  21. Let's stay on-topic and discuss Atari, not that other system, shall we? IS2 cart is identical to the IS2 CD - except it has no FMV sequences. I have the cart. It's very easy to buy from Telegames. They occasionally have it marked down - I bought a cart copy new for $50 US from them. As for difference between IS1 and IS2: the graphics are slightly improved, with more detail and more textures on the buildings, enemy vehicles, ground, etc. The missions tend to be a bit more difficult. Gameplay is nearly identical.
  22. quote I have a friend who bought a new PS2 back in November. She found that it would occasionally lock up while playing a DVD or a game, and the only fix was a reboot. Ithen read in December in an issue of GamePro that if the unit is stood vertically the discs do not always spin smoothly, so I suggested that she move it from vertical to horizontal. She tried this and it helped some, but not completely. She then swapped the machine for a new PS2 under warranty. Guess what? The new machine freezes up as well, though not as often. I asked her about this just a week or so ago and she said that she now keeps it horizontal and it doesn't look up too often, maybe one movie out of 10 or so.
  23. quote: I've only had a Jaguar for 2 months, I was wondering if there's any key items im missing, except of course - Battlesphere - which I hope to get hold of pretty soon Not bad, not bad. If you at all like space combat/dogfighter games, you must get BattleSphere. You should also take a look at Power Drive Rally, Skyhammer, Protector, and the Telegames carts, particularly Breakout 2000 (man I like that game!).
  24. Sheesh. What a bunch of whiners... Here's the direct link. http://gametz.com/usertab/DennisHowerter/t.../tab/Games.html It took me all of ten seconds to follow the guy's directions. As for trades, there's nothing there I'm interested in. Sorry.
