I'd be interested to see how it compares to the RGB mod that Juice (now-banned ex-member) did on my Intellivision. Some colors are not perfect, most notably the jellyfish in Shark! Shark! are not purple and blend in with the background/water. I'd love to know if it's his mod or if all Intv RGB mods will have this problem.

Very cool and exciting news! I'm curious why the cart was given a rarity of 9? Seems a perfect candidate for an R10 to me.

Just to be clear, Biff is not the same person as the modder who ran off with everyone's consoles (SwampFox56 / Zeke Ortiz).
However, Biff did claim (earlier upthread) to give Taco Bell the idea of the soft taco, and that's a hoot!

Agreed, grats on your sale but you're a dbag for posting pictures of cash.

I'd have to also (strongly) disagree that ANY Call of Duty game, on Wii U or ANY console for that matter, will ever be rare.

Reload is pretty fun. Also, if you want a so-bad-it's-good game, try Target: Terror. It has that cheesy Sega CD vibe.

Interesting thread!
1. 3D Tic-Tac-Toe - screw that damn game. I have never beaten the computer ONCE and I've tried. I'm a broken man now because of it.
2. Reactor - this game made no sense then and it makes no sense now
3. Kangaroo - when all I had was the CX40 joystick as a kid, it was angering to miss those diagonal jumps - still one of my favorite 2600 titles though

To me, a full NA Switch library is a pointless exercise since some games like LA Noire do not include the whole game on the cart. Kind of goes against the whole point of having physical media, doesn't it?

Is that Atari SA's attempt to subvert the use of the term AtariAge to their own propaganda machine?
Just as with their raping and pillaging of the "Atari VCS" name, I feel you are right about this. It's no accident.

I remember being at a friend's house in the early 80s during the peak of the 2600's popularity, when EVERYONE had an Atari. His family had a Channel F that they no longer played and it sat there on the floor in another room, forgotten. To my mind at the time, without really knowing what it was, I looked down at the weird console as the ugly, primitive video game system that no one in their right mind would want to play anymore - only that it was a stepping stone to the current good games: Frogger, Space Invaders, Berzerk, etc etc
I believe that many people who grew up after the Video Game Crash look back at Atari the same way (and have no idea what a Channel F is). Ataris were the ugly, primitive, wood-grained clunkers that people used to play before the "good games" (ie Super Mario Bros and everything that followed) and aren't worth wasting much time and money on nowadays.

Frogs & Flies and Circus Atari are both great suggestions
Smurf Rescue
good ole Hangman
Centipede hasn't been mentioned either and it has an easy mode for children

Those Data Age replacement labels look nice, but I can't help wondering if it hurts the authenticity to replace them. Like Video said, the dings and tears are part of each cart's charm. Of course, it's completely understandable to replace if the label is missing.
Maybe I've been watching too much Antiques Roadshow lately (yea, go ahead and laugh), but I can see an appraiser looking at the carts 50 years from now: "As you can see, someone replaced the label on this Sssnake cart at some point in its history. I would put a value on this piece of $100 but if it still had the original label, it would sell for 5 to 600 dollars at auction. Thanks for bringing it in!"

Just be thankful they changed it from the Atari Box. Would have made it impossible to search for boxed games on ebay
I'm thrilled it isn't called the Ataribox, just for the simple reason that if this thing ever does get released it would make looking for boxed atari games on ebay a pain in the ass
I for one am thankful that they changed the name, because if they had kept the name AtariBox it would have made searching for boxed games on Ebay and pain in the ass.
Why do I feel like we just keep going in circles in this thread??

I never understood where the X in PSX really came from
My understanding is the X in PSX is just a shorthand abbreviation for a bunch of letters - similar to how an illiterate person can sign their name with X. You see it a lot in the medical field with Dx for diagnosis, Sx for symptom, Rx for prescription, etc.

I bought an Onyx one with the joystick. I may go back and get the newer joystick too.
Since we're arguing semantics now...
You meant "I sent a crowdfunding site my money to help an inexperienced and deceptive holding company design, develop and build an Onyx one", since they have nothing to "buy" yet. There is no guarantee that you'll get what you paid for and a high probability that you will get absolutely nothing for your money. But you knew that going into it right?
The mindset of these backers is really strange to me. It's like the only backers they can be getting are either really easy marks, Koo-Koo for AtariPuffs and feel like they are supporting some historic effort , of they're first time backers that don't know how these crowdfunding things work. If this thing ever exists in reality, they're guaranteed to offer it up for sale through their site as they end production. These things always do, cuz these guys don't want to leave money on the table. I haven't seen one of these get to production without offering it up for a special early purchase price that wasn't the same or so close to the original backer price that it pissed off backers who had money in from the beginning. So rather than just agree to order one once they know something about it, and it's likely to be shipped, these backers are lapping up the snake oil routine, believing the tired lies about exclusive early pricing, and choosing to provide high risk, no interest loans for a year to infinity. It just proves the adage about a fool and his money.
The only backer mindset that makes any kind of sense to me is someone who won't miss $200+. (I've never had the too-much-money-wtf-do-I-do-with-all-of-it problem myself, but some people have money to burn obviously!)

Mike Kennedy had Retro magazine that was going to feature articles, ads, etc for the Retro VGS / Coleco Chameleon, so it only makes sense for Atari SA to do the same for the Ataribox. We can mark that checkbox off the list now too.

Flojo, it's going to be an exotic collectable!
jk, no I really wouldn't, but I also don't play the lottery. I was just trying to keep the peace and not sound mean calling out Dr. Manhattan Honestly though, the only way anyone could justify giving money to this crowdfunding campaign is if they truly wouldn't miss (or truthfully, just don't want) their money. They certainly won't get it back.

I have a strange feeling that even if they deliver the Atari VCS, and it goes belly up a month later, the hardware will become a collectible item and will reach Jaguar-level crazy prices on eBay. Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see...
I see some people in this thread admitting they feel a bit foolish for backing the Atari VCS. Don't. I'm willing to be that even if they deliver the product, and it goes belly up a month later, the thing will become and exotic collectible and hit Jaguar-level crazy prices on eBay. I think the same thing is eventually going to happen to the Wii U. There's something about failure and popular brand name that really creates collectible value.
Maybe I could share your enthusiasm if I won $500 from the lottery, too. The rest of us have to work to earn money, and I'll be damned if I give one cent to AtaREEEEEEE SA who will likely never release the Ataribox... err VCS.
And please don't construe this as an attack on you I'm just jealous because I would have likely done the same thing with lottery winnings. So, I suppose you can be our AA guinea pig! When this project goes belly up and everyone on IGG is "invoking their rights to refunds, please", you won't have lost anything!

Many people were proven wrong with their opinion.
They wanted this project to fail.
There were a lot of talk how nobody would support the crowdfunding and that the People would never be so stupid to invest in a product like this.
That nobody would buy a console when there are existing consoles like the Rasperry Pi with the same emulations for a much cheaper price.
Why do you think your predictions were so wrong?
Who are you speaking to exactly? You are completely misrepresenting all of us (on AA and elsewhere) who are skeptical about this system and Atari SA's ability to produce it.
No one here wants this project to fail. We simply want Atari SA to be honest and open about what they want to do and not insult our intelligence with ridiculous marketing. They have done exactly the opposite EVERY step of the way so far. Many of us watched this exact process unfold when Mike Kennedy was trying to crowdfund a console (Retro VGS/Coleco Chameleon) using his Jaguar molds - with absolutely no hardware, software, or engineering abilities whatsoever.
So, you are either intentionally muddying the waters here with your fake hype, or you are seriously devoid of any critical thinking skills.

I truly don't understand how it's not a criminal offense to take "pre-orders" through a crowdfunding site, with no obligation to ever deliver that order.

I'm nowhere near you so not interested, but just wanted to suggest that you may have more interest if you give some kind of idea what and how much you have. I've noticed people have wildly different ideas of what a "large collection" is. Glwys!

It's just fascinating reading the comment section on the Gameband kickstarter. (JBerel, thanks for keeping the link handy!)
Are The Historian and David Hooker (Agentdave7) the same person?

I'm not optimistic at all about Ataribox but finding any new info in that other thread is such a chore. And I'm sorry, I try to keep a good sense of humor, but that "taco meme" was lame from the start and is just tiring now. It would be nice to have it contained to that thread.
That's because there is no "new info."

Dr. Manhattan, we would ALL love answers to those questions but no one in this thread can answer them. The only one who possibly could (The Historian) hasn't posted one single bit of useful information in this whole thread and now claims to not be involved with Ataribox, so we are all left pissing in the wind.

Absolutely love mine! I bought an overlay on this site because the original "X" artwork isn't so great. I'll attach a pic. You'll love yours, enjoy!
