  1. Really disappointing that this game got abandoned.  I closely followed its development back when it was till active and very much wanted this game.  Just the small bit of what was completed for the game shows such how much untapped potential the Atari Jaguar had.  This is like a glimpse of what could have been in an alternate reality for Atari they were still thriving and one where the Jaguar was king of the game market for it time period.

Have you tested the Teamgroup TTZD416G3200HC16F-S01 and confirmed that it will work at 3200 MHz in the Atari VCS?  The Atari VCS is very finicky about which memory that it will work with at 3200 MHz speeds.

    Hi.

I installed  two TED416G3200C22DC-S01... working fine at 2400mhz. But overclocking to 3200mhz doesn't start the VCS and the fan is loud ;(

Does anyone try to overclock between 2400mhz and 3200mhz with a positive result?

Is it beneficial to allocate more than 8GB to GPU?

    Thanks!!!

I and several others have Atari VCS owners have the Teamgroup TED432G3200C22DC-S01 and they are working at 3200 MHz.  I hope that what you are experiencing doesn't mean that Teamgroup has changed component in their chips like G.Skill did with the RipJaws F4-3200C22D-32GRS (selling it at the same specs, model and UPC but not the same) and now is not longer the same product that it was.

  4. Just looked again on your website and was able to locate it.

Just in case anyone else is looking for it the Star Raider prototype can be found at http://www.atariprotos.com/2600/software/starraiders/strr.htm

Now as for which I prefer between Starmaster and Star Raiders.  Let me first say I love both games and played them non stop as a kid.  However I am going to have to go with Star Raiders as my favorite of the two and contrary to many here I find the graphical style in Star Raiders more appealing than that of Starmaster.  The video touchpad in Star Raiders on the Atari 2600 was such a nice feature and made the game feel more immersive.  I gave countless hours of my childhood to Star Raiders on the Atari 2600 and did manage to beat the game on skill level 40 difficulty and unlock the mystery rank, "Atari".

I will be releasing a early prototype of Star Raiders that uses the difficulty switches instead of the touch pad. Unfortunetly there's no map, starbase, or hyperdrive, but those things just got in the way anyway

    @Tempest

Hello, sorry about resurrecting such a old thread, but did you ever release the prototype of Star Raiders that uses the difficulty switches as opposed to the video touch pad?  I have never heard of such a version of the game before but this would be a very useful feature to have if you do still have this prototype and have released it or will release it.

Yes, they will work fine if you buy the PAL60 version of the games.

Yes, Gorf Arcade will be released in physical form at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo in mid-October.

I guess I had better jump on getting an AtariVox then for my Atari 2600 ?

To my knowledge, there have only been 9 7800 Prototypes found and played. Is that right?

Toki, Plutos, Sirius, Missing in Action, Klax, Rampart, GATO, Pit Fighter and Rescue on Fractulous..................... or however you spell it.

Looks like we will probably never get to play Toki on the Atari 7800 even though years ago there was supposedly a plan to make the game available but still to this day has no happened.

  8. Nice game, I got it free with my Atari Lynx I in 1991 when Atari was giving it away as a bonus for anyone purchasing the system.  Can't remember what the other game choice was but I had to mail in my receipt and UPC code from the box for my Lynx to get it (still not thrilled about having to chop that of the box and still have the system box even after 31 years).

Be interesting if someone picks up the TEAMGROUP kit and we have a second success story.

One could always tweak the memory settings and hope they are more forgiving.  I don't think memory speed is going to help enough to squeeze better performance out of PS2 and PS3 emulation (and other intensive programs).

I bought the Teamgroup memory and it works perfectly at 3200 MHz (the system boots properly on the first boot after setting the memory to 3200 MHz, CPUID show it is running at the correct MHz for 3200 and Unigine Heaven Benchmark stress test run to completion each time without any issues).  Whatever you do don't get the G.Skill RipJaws as they changed the components in the memory in 2021 and even though the part number, specs and UPC are listed as identical to what was being sold in 2020 the 2021 memory IS NOT the same as the memory that was being sold in 2020.

All I can say is after a lot of frustration with testing and returning several sticks of memory the Teamgroup memory was the only 3200 MHz sticks in 2021 that worked in my Atari VCS.  I don't think there are any other options out there that I didn't try.  Good luck trying to anyone trying to find another set of memory that works at 3200 MHz.

Good to to see that 2 other Atari VCS owners have tested the Teamgroup memory and is reporting back all is working for them as well using the memory at 3200 MHz in their Atari VCS.

  10. I am very excited to learn about Kombinera. First new IP from Atari in years. Great to see that new content is in the works. Also it is encouraging to read "But Kombinera is the first new IP to come out of this initiative, and according to Rosen, the first of many to come". Very excited to see that Atari is moving forward and creating the new content that they need to make the Atari VCS a success.

Atari has the right picked the person for CEO the job when they put Wade Rosen at the helm. This article is show a very candid and honest assessment of Atari at present .

Reading this I feel that Wade Rosen does care growing the Atari brand is honest about this challenges to get there. Quote (https://www.ign.com/articles/atari-unveils-puzzle-platformer-kombinera) He says that in the coming months and years, we can expect to "see Atari collaborate with a variety of studios, from small independents to larger studios with well-established reputations." What Rosen is surprisingly candid about is Atari's place in the wider gaming consciousness in 2022. He recognizes that it isn't the same well-known company it once was with the disappearance of arcades and its move into a quieter publishing role. But he wants to change that, beginning with Kombinera: "We are in an interesting moment in the lifespan of Atari," he says. "It is an iconic brand that has a natural place in pop culture as much as it does games. Atari appears in film, television, art, music and fashion — and it feels natural. It belongs. Yet, despite the brand's roots in video games, today’s Atari has less presence and less relevancy in gaming culture. You might say the brand is out of balance. A modern Atari will find that balance, where its role in gaming culture is in parity with its role in pop culture."

No, our point was that Project: Arrival is being developed for iOS and Android and that Android and Linux (hence AtariOS) are completely different development platforms, and that it wouldn't be a quick and easy port, so less likely for the developers to do it.

Not only that, as there is only plans so far to do iOS and Android versions of the game, that means touch screen input is where it'll be optimized, and seeing as how the VCS doesn't have any touch screen input it'd take even more development time to have a controllable port.

All I could find on the actual game was a teaser trailer.  So I have no idea why 'that type of game' would be great for the VCS.  Not saying it wouldn't be, if they felt like converting the iOS / Android controls to be more gamepad / joystick friendly.  Ping the Devs and see what they think?  Us bandying back and forth about the difficulties of porting it to Linux proper instead of Linux / Android is just that, us trying to correct the fallacy that just because something is being written for Android does not make it suitable for Desktop Linux or the Atari VCS.  Look more at games that are Verified or Playable on the Steam Deck and maybe (if AtariOS ever implements something like Proton) then we can get those games onto the Atari VCS.

True (it's awesome, so I backed it, hoping it eventually releases).  They have some free apps and such as well, so it isn't like the system isn't set up for the occasional freebies.

I have seen gameplay footage over on the Discord channel for the game.

Yup,  there's over 1100 Linux games on GoG too,

plus all the free games listed at these sites (I wonder if Atari would ever consider adding free games?)

    https://www.gamingonlinux.com/free-games/

    https://happypenguin.altervista.org/

That would be a good idea. Free games and make up for it in advertising.  No other console is doing that.  I would support that.  There a tons of free games that would be great to have on a home console like the Atari VCS.

  13. I wasn't intending to have this topic delve into a deep technical analysis porting games.  I just think a game like this could do well on a console such as the Atari VCS since that platfrom system looking for indie games and content not found elsewhere.  The hardware would Atari VCS should offer sufficient processing power to run a game well that was originally made for high end ARM mobile devices.

    Just my thoughts:

    • This game for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X/S would not fit well since the games on those systems tend to be much more complex and this game would not meet the typical expectation for games on those platforms.
    • Amico is low to mid range ARM hardware at best and the game is intended to be ran on high end Android and iOS devices so that sort of rules that platform out.  Also, Intellivision is not interested having games on the Amico with this level of depth as it doesn't fir the format for the type of game they want to cultivate as the Amico experience.  Not to mention the Amico doesn't seem likely that it will even make it to market at this point.
    • Maybe this would be OK for the Switch, but this doesn't seem like the typical type of game for the Nintendo audience and would probably require a lot of work to port it over to that platfrorm/

There is a big difference between Android and a regular Linux distro (incl. Atari OS).  Android uses a Linux kernel but that's about as far as comparisons go.

I am not saying there aren't differences between Android and Linx.  I am saying in my reply that the dev is already considering porting to P'sC and that Android has more in common with Linux than it does with Windows so a port to a Linux OS would lilkey be less work that a port to Windows OS or other game system such as the PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X/S or Nintendo Switch.

Well, Android uses a Linux Kernel, with completely different userland / libraries than a typical Linux distributions, including the AtariOS.  Which is why you see tons of mobile games on android, but never see a Linux port of any of them...

    2 hours ago, zzip said:

Not necessarily,  Android development uses an entirely different set of tools/apks than vanilla linux.    It depends on the what libraries your game depends on.

We need to really target developers who are already making games that run on Linux, there are lots of them these days.  That would be far more effective than expecting a developer to port something developed for Windows or a mobile OS to a wholly different platform, especially a very niche one like Atari OS.  Developers will probably be more inclined to test their games for the VCS if they can actually get access to the hardware, at the moment it's only on limited release mostly in one country - which, also limits the potential user base.

Also, as I've said before, it seems so obvious to me that most if not all those games advertised on the main page here on AtariAge could and should be available for the VCS in some form.

The dev already is considering porting it the game to PC's (see the attached screenshot I took from the Discord channel for Project: Arrival()  It would be easier to to to Linux than to Windows as Android has more in common with Linux than it does with Windows.  I would rather see an Atari VCS port than having to run this in PC mode game via the Window 11 Android apps system, Bluestacks or Chrome OS .

  16. A few days ago I came across Project: Arrival that is in development for high end Android and iOS device and I have to say it looks amazing. It would be perfect for the Atari VCS as a AAA type title. I know isn't likely to go anywhere, but I have sent a message over of Facebook to the dev. Maybe if enough Atari VCS fans sends messages, emails feedback on Discord the dev might consider porting it over to the Atari VCS.

    I do believe you're correct

It is hard to know what the actual color blue the text on the label is since the scene was very dark and I had to make a significant adjustment for brightness so that it was even possible to see the console as much as you see it here in the screen capture that I posted in this thread.  For comparison as to how dark this scene was take a look at the second image that I posted for which no adjustment was made at all.

  18. Atari Karts as a Flashback Friday game would have been a better game to put in the Atari VCS store than a kart racing game that doesn't have co op. I am not taking anything away from the efforts on the part of the dev bring Rally Racers to the Atari VCS of this game since they game doesn't have co op by design and on it own merits looks like fine and very fun game. Atari has done this dev a great disservice by misstating the game has couch co op in promotional email intended to generate sales of the game and as a result this dev might end up getting backlash over a feature that was advertised in error once a consumer finds the feature missing from the game after it is purchased. Also as a result this dev might and lose sales as well as potentially not want to further publish any games on the Atari VCS over this and because of any fallout this might might generate & get direct his/her way.
