  1. I was thinking the same. My point is that if your in the business to "make" repro's it wouldn't just be the label that you are making. It's probably an Atarimax cart with software on it, or recycled chips and boards slapped into a reused housing. I believe that if the cart is original, yet the label couldn't survive 25+ years then making a replacement label isn't a bad thing. But I also believe that it should be marked and communicated that it is a repro-label.

Here is my example. I have two original Jawbreaker carts, one missing the label. I've almost got the paper (gloss and semi) and colors down to remake almost any label. But the copy has a distinguishable mark, etc.

it's pretty easy to tell the fake from the original...but I guess if you don't plan to re-sell it's ok :)

  2. I agree on the piracy issue. I'm starting to see many Atarimax cartridges loaded with games being sold on ebay bundled with atari 800/800xl/1200xl computers or even "thrown" into cartridge common lots to spike the value of the auction...doesn't matter how you mask it! It's piracy and illegal and it devalues the original cartridges.

It's my opinion making backup copies for yourself is ok but when you start mass producing and seling on ebay for profit or on your own website it wrong. That is my 2 cents.

  3. If it's health related I'm sure all here wish him a speedy recovery...

but possibly it might be due to selling illegal reproductions of games might of forced him to take his operation down??? no clue :?

  4. Hey folks! I know many of you have amazing collections but I thought I would just share with you what we have so far over at the Personal Computer Museum in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. We love the Atari 8-bit machines (we currently have both an 800 and 1200 XL on interactive display that people can play with when they visit in person) and we recently received an amazing donation of software that included a ton of Atari 8-bit stuff - with a special focus on educational titles.

Check this link out to see what we currently have in our collection!

We would love for any Atari fans to visit us and share your stories!

love the website! If you ever get an extra copy of pinhead let me know!

  5. Thanks, was there a cart released, or was it only a prototype?

Nope, prototype only. The only official release for the Atari 8-bit was on a disk with the C64 version on the other side.

I have an original BCI Software disk and there is no C64 version on the flip side... are these harder to find?

    Thanks,

    Roger

I have the BCI disk as well. Atarimania says they are both rarity 8

I do have question however on the Utopia Software version...the title screen is different so is version different?

  6. OK, I've got the display set on 4:3, so that's no problem, and I get sound out of my 800XL. The problem is that the picture is only displaying in black and white! I have no idea why. I'm just using AV cables with the 800XL, although they are only white and yellow; no red. Would different cables help, and, if so, which one should I get?? Any info would be appreciated!

maybe you bought a cheap cable online that only works in black & white?

did you buy it from ebay seller: raidovermoscow ?

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 3103594421631?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=310359442163&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

his is cheaper then others but cable stinks and only displays in black in white...so it's a feature not a bug :D

this seller below has a less expensive one and supports color.

  7. I dug my Atari 800xl out of storage and plugged it in and I got the red power light. So I figured I was good. I hooked it up to a small 13" TV and all I got was a black screen.

No familiar BASIC blue screen that says READY.

I also have an old color composite monitor and I was lucky to find the cable in a box that goes along with it. So I unhooked the RCA cable and

connected the monitor cable and hooked that up and I get the same thing - just a black screen.

Any ideas? is my 800xl now worthless? Worth trying to get repaired?

    thanks

    Tim

First thing to check is that the power supply is within limits, 4.75V to 5.25V. There is a model of Atari power supply, commonly known as the 'ingot', which puts out too high a voltage when it fails.

I had similar issue. My 800xl was showing some weird yellow and green lines on screen and making noise; I replaced power supply and it's working like a charm! I had the 'ingot' and replaced it with a spare PS and worked!

  8. I just received a mixed lot of 8-bit carts, including BBSB. Unfortunately, I can't get the cart to run on either an Atari 400 with 32KB or an XEGS with 64KB. I think the cart is 40KB, which explains why it doesn't work on the 400. When I put it in the XEGS, I get the blue screen with the cursor, then the self-test. I cleaned the contacts extremely well, so I don't think they are the problem. I'm afraid that the cart might be toast, but I wanted to be sure that there weren't any compatibility issues with the XEGS. Thanks for any advice.

you been had on ebay! time to leave negative feedback :-)

try thin black sand paper and then use 70% isophropl cleaner with q-tip ...if it's the auction I'm thinking those carts looked very dirty

  9. OK here is Pinhead. Cartridges? Oh yeah...there is Embargo of course, Popeye (boxed), Deluxe Invaders, and a bunch of Atari carts too! There is UMI's Soccer and Jumbo Jet Pilot. And ... I'm sure there is more!

Thank You! I love this game! Have it on disk but never saw original package, very cool!

  10. Ok it's been about 8 months since I asked :)

Does anyone have Espial Cartridge who can post a picture or give more info on rarity or quantiy released?

Last time I asked I was told Espial for Atari 800XL/XE was real but noone has ever been able to show proof!

aside from pitfalljones site I've never seen it before and I'd like to know who provided that picture? Help Dick Tracy! :-D

  11. why would I support this! making fake carts will devalue the huge collection I've acquired! Someday when I'm in a wheelchair and can no longer use a joystick I plan on selling my carts :D

I also like pitfall jones site but it's incomplete maybe you should enhance that site by creating a complete collection instead of making fake carts.

  12. I have a 1050 disk drive that needs cleaning. Is there a thread on AA to help with this?

Also behavior is strange sometimes computer detects the 1050 drive other times it does not?

I have to shut both the 1050 and 800xl off and try again to get disk to boot ...is it a defective SIO cable or something else?

  13. I had 2 parker brother cartridges I could not get to work after using various cleaning methods on the cartridge contacts (usually alcohol isopropyl 70% does the trick)...

I tried ultra thin black sand paper on both sides of the contacts and to my surprise the cartridges work perfectly now!!!

Am I the first to try this? just figured I share :-D
