  1. Never played Dig Dug in arcade format before this week. I dig it and my wife likes it enough to enjoy me talking about it too. This could be a good thing. First post for this HSC. I thought I would be in a better place with it but I see there are people here on the verge of 100,000. Maybe I can improve this before this game is over, but I'll take this if nothing else comes up. 54,860
  2. I certainly plan to make that trip. I'm honestly hoping to do be able to do it this time next year. I'm on the right coast, but driving would take a long time (I'm in big GA) and I'm not much for flying.
  3. Hum..... I only got the chance to look at this with my druid so far, so its hard to get the idea of this place just right, but I can say this so far. Sites like this upset me through no fault of their own. I get to look at a list of arcades, and ever look at some (if not all) of the games that are in the arcade. The only "classic" arcade game I ever find it the Galaga/Ms PacMan unit. Does no one have a real arcade? Are they all DDR and Driving games only now? There is one place around me that has a few games. Street Fighter 3, MvC2, a 60 in 1 unit and other stuff that is imported and modern. So I have a 60 in 1 unit to play. Not bad, as I do like to play in an arcade of sorts, but not right. I would love to play Berzerk, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, Centipede, or Robotron on a real machine again before I die. I have these on my MAME machine, but there is something about the real deal that can't be emulated at all. Guess I'll have to get my money right and travel across country to play a real machine, or maybe travel across country to buy one if I can find one done right.... wonder what the wife would say?
  4. I really think the refs should not be allowed to hold records at all. In a perfect world anyway. Even if I don't play a game, seeing how to break the record may get me into it, and I have all the secrets. I know this can't be the way it really is, but it would be really really nice. I have thought about sending in footage before and stopped because of this conflict of interest. For the record though, there seems to be a system in place to ask that a ref not be involved in the process for your video. TG is going to have a problem anyway. They seem to be a very tight group and it would seem like they have a problem with new gamers coming in and breaking anyone in the groups records. I'm not going to write another essay about this, but it comes off that way atleast. The big games seem worse then the average game. DK, Pac Man... that kind of thing. And I didn't know that he broke those records in public, but I couldn't find proof of his breaking a record in public before KoK, and in that movie he talks about the importance of it. Fishy! And Todd Rogers bothers me as well.
  5. How do you figure that? From the movie? Not that I'm defending the guy (I don't know him, nor care less) but I've never seen anything that would make me think of him as a cheat. If there's one thing I appreciate it's video gaming skills and the guy's obviously got it ever since the 80's... some of it is from the movies, King of Kong and Chasing Ghost, some from interviews on Youtube and the like, some from the print (or online articles). I'll explain more. First let me explain that I'm not saying he is cheating in the games, but I'm not ruling that out either. What I will commit to is my belief that he is all about doing whatever it takes to make sure he is credited and no one else is. He talks and acts like he is the only person playing these games with a chance. I understand this when you are working against someone, but he really isn't most of the time. The challenge should be between the game and you, and for most people it is. Sure, there is something to be said for being better then the other guy, but at the end of the day you have to be better then the game to be the best. It has little to nothing to do with the other guy. You can't think of playing single player games for a score like playing football or boxing. You aren't playing against someone, you are playing against the game. Because he takes this "I have to beat that guy" approach he has put himself in a place to prove he is the best. Doing that leads to doing what it takes to be the best, and when you can't do that through ability you have to do it through less honorable tactics. These include in Billy's case: 1) Intimidating officials and other members of the community, and then using that intimadation to control people's beliefs and actions. 2)Instantly discrediting any other record attempt in a game he holds a record in without reason or even all the information. This used with my first point leads to very bad things for the community such as the inspection of another player's machine. 3) Double speak! He is a master of this craft. He says one thing (If you want to prove you have what it takes do it in public) and doing another (submitting a tape that was clearly suspect during another players public performace). Talking about playing in public all the time, and his wife saying she has never seen him do it... Again, because he controls the beliefs and actions of people through intimidation of some sort he can get away with this with great affect. There are other things he does but this will get my point across. The man views people trying for the same record as the bad guy and aims to win. Not win with honor, but win. He is involved in the inspection of another record holder's machine, because he doesn't like someone the other record holder doesn't hate he discredits the entire process, and because he controls the people at TG they follow him in this belief. No one really buys the story about a bad board right? I mean he went and did better on the machine no one else could really play on. The one machine they wanted him to do this on to prove he was good, and instead of allowing Wiebe this chance to prove himself in a crowd he plays the snake and sends a tape. The same action he discredited when Wiebe did it. Then comes what makes me suspect him of true honest to goodness cheating. He gets to see and inspect Wiebe's machine and his game play (as I understand it), but instructs his lacky to stop Wiebe from seeing his game play footage. This is something. Billy never could get over 1,000,000 before he saw how Wiebe did it, and suddenly he is up there too? Thats cheating Bronco style. If nothing else he cheats through all this political crap. I'm sure no one read all that, and I'm sure I haven't changed anyone's mind, but I defended my point and I feel good saying the man is no good for the community. He is a bad sport if nothing else.
  6. Just how is everyone keeping up with all the interviews and such? I read about these things when I hear about these things but there is so much out there right now and its hard to keep everything right. Anyway, my two cents on this is, Billy is a cheat, or atleast was, and I can't trust him. I don't believe anything from the guy anymore. I have seen and read enough to make me wonder enough that I'm just not interested in the guy anymore. Even the people that are talking about him in a positive way always seem to say something that makes me wonder where his head is. I would love to see this record put too far out of his reach to even have to worry about him. I don't care who gets it, so long as Billy isn't at the top anymore. What a guy.
  7. Build your own table top unit. Almost always cheaper, you learn alot about all kinds of fun things as you go, and you get exactly what you want. I am painfully close to finishing my full size unit and I'm super happy. It took me longer then I wanted, but it is so worth it! If you haven't looked into this, or if you want some help with getting started I'm sure there are tons of people here to help or send me a PM and I'll help with links and advice from first hand trail and error.
  8. Thats the perfect answer. I was hoping it was that easy. I have a tab button on the control panel and I was hoping to avoid the keyboard as much as possible. Thanks a million. I could have looked this up but my work computer stops anything it labels as "Games" (yet alows this site for now atleast). Checking it at home means getting my wife off the computer and that can be tough as she works from home on it so.... You just saved me a lot of trouble. Thanks again.
  9. I have a MAME machine and I like this game enough to get started with it, though I'm not good at it at all. I do however wonder about setting the games up right for this HSC. How does one set the dip switches and such to be sure one is playing right for this club in MAME? Seems likely I should know this as I went through the trouble of building the machine and all, but honestly I thought I'd get the machine working before I worried about this kind of detail. Any help would be great. Thanks for your time, I look forward to posting my ever so tiny scores.
  10. 25930. This may be a lot better if I had this game to play on my actual hardware. I finally decided to hook my Mame panel up to my PC so I could play this and that was a ton better then a game pad, still there is something wrong here. Thanks for the help with the bats, but I have to say I'm still getting no where with them. Not sure what but I must be doing something wrong. There seems to be no getting to the top of the mountain for me and the game is simply too frustrating for me to put another few hours into to get there. I'll take my low score and hope next weeks game is less frustrating.
  11. I could really use some good pointers on getting to the top of the mountain with the crown. I have played more then a few games and I'm just not getting how to beat the bats. From time to time I can get around them, but I still haven't made the top of the hill once. I'm in the 20,000 range now, but thats no where near the top... just feeling stuck at the moment. Any advice?
  12. Oh yeah. I was playing with it because I think it would be really cool to have a record. After about a hour pressing I decided this was a game about time not skill as soon as you started to press. I should have put more effort into bettering my score for here but to be honest I'm done with this game for a good long while. In the end the best way to play the game is go through the levels, and take the chances you get to get points without pressing for more.
  13. This isn't 100% related but it will mean I don't need to start another thread. My Space Invaders cart will come on and then resets, works and resets. I can never actually play the game. It comes up, shows the game play for just about 3 sec and then blinks. Broken? I have been thinking it was junked for a while and meaning to ask, and here is my chance.
  14. Jumping in this game sucks, and so do the bats. Just like some other posters so far I have had the crown taken from me right at the top of the freaking screen. If I could find the flame a little faster I would be doing much better. Either way this is the 2nd game in a row that I had never heard of and may have never played, but has already found a way into the list of great games I know I'll play for a long time after this week. Now I just have to get lucky and find a real copy of this in town randomly during the week.... its happened before. 9870. Not a pile of points, but I played this week if nothing else, and I really hope to get in the top 5 with this one. Seems likely those record scores from TG were junk put there so someone could say they have a record. Not cool!
  15. Manuel link is broken. Just FYI. Leads to Moto Rodeo.
  16. FREAKING SWEET! If you can't out game em, out draw em. On a side note this is easily the most productive thing I have done at work in a month or more. I have a sales job, and in this economy that pretty much means I know all the items on the dollar menu well! Thanks a bunch. Looks like my day is turning around. My drawing "skills" aside, is anyone going to submit a video for a world record?
  17. There. Being bored at work with markers and 2 points out there makes this thing. Its so angry!
  18. Can we just do any zylon? As far as I can tell they are all zylon with different types? I would just hate to be wrong about something that simple and I could surely use the points here. Got an actual copy of the game at a local store and still can't beat what I had before. Hard freaking game.
  19. These cases don't list Atari or NES on the list of games they hold, yet I see you have used them this way. How does that work out. I'm sure they fit inside the thing but is there alot of room for them to move and such? Just wondering before I start ordering...
  20. I have found some ways to point press that get me in the range of 1 million, but that isn't the nature of this thread so I haven't posted those scores. Running right through the game I can only get just about 100000, but in the same time point pressing I can get about 850000. Took yesterday off now I'm going to go see if I can get more then my 118k on a legit run.
  21. 118,770 Takes a lot of time to get there for me at least. I'm not sure I want to try to get higher then that, but I know I will anyway. Stupid games being addictive.
  22. I'd call this improvement enough to post about. 43,060
  23. 41560 It isn't top 3, but I'll get there soon. The learning curve here is something special, and I'm having a hard time with a few things. About the time I get to 30k points there are too many sectors flashing red to handle too well, meaning I don't have fuel around anymore and I'm controlling my craftt backwards.... This is what keeps getting me. I might not get 190k, but I expect to break 60k by the end of the challenge.
  24. 25890 I got 3 games in tonight and this is me so far. I will surely be much better by weeks end. And yes the jumping in this game is hell. Gets real hard when the level is all moving platforms.
  25. Holy crap. First, this game looks great for the 2600 and I didn't know it would do all that. This really is a great example of what the system can do. Also, this game is kicking my butt all over the place. I don't have the actual game yet so I'm having to emulate it, but it will be in my collection soon. Great game. I've played twice now, the first time I was just trying to figure out what I read in the manual, I just played again and so my first low score. 25,960, this game is hard! I'll bother posting a pic when I get a score I think is closer to where I'm going to max out. PS, if you are getting 190k you should really record that, I want to see that score on TG ASAP! Congrats, and new world record.
