  1. The OP has been reading my mind. I've been wanting a portable 2600 ever since I saw Ben Heck's version. I just thinking about trying to build one as a hobbyist project. (I'm currently trying to learn about soddering, electronics, etc) BTW, hatever happened to the portable Atari Flashback?
  2. Thanks SlowCoder! That topic was really helpful. I'm going to buy some controller extensions ASAP. Also, I just wanted to thank everyone else for their help. I am attempting to fix my 2600 rear angle power jack today. I even found a site that sells replacement parts just in case I am not successful. I also found a tutorial for fixing this problem, allegedly its the most common defect of the 2600. (4/6 switch models.) So I just have one more question. What is this product? What does it do? Why do they use the word "upgrade?" How is it an upgrade? atari 2600a and 2600 upgrade switch static foil strips co17294 http://estoreoutwest.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=888&zenid=812914f726f28c109b9a45380ca7e104
  3. Please forgive me for adding fuel to the fire here but I have to ask this question. My question concerns the Vader 2600. I read in another topic (on this forum) that Vader 2600 model allegedly "includes an additional chip that enhances the color of the playfield." Is this true? Would this mean the Vader is the best system for playing your 2600 games?
  4. OP, congratulations on your cool find! When you say brand new, are you saying this thing was manufactured recently? Or is it "new old stock?"
  5. Spanish: http://www.atarimania.com/list_videos_atari_country-_19-_2.html That video is one of my favourites. Wow, that web site is really cool. I can't believe I just watched almost an hour worth of TV commercials. lol.
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-x-cCmzfzk I can't tell if this is Italian or Spanish but either way its still very surreal.
  7. Ok it looks like I'm going to try to fix the Atari AC jack myself. Wish me luck. Now I have two other questions I'd like to ask you all. First, are controller extension cords good or bad? I heard a console modder say they are bad because they cause the controller to draw more power from the controller port than normal. (Due to the extra cord length?) I've never been able to confirm of deny this statement. I do know that I used controller extensions on my Dreamcast and sure enough, the port where I used the extensions the most stopped working. My next question concerns the Vader 2600. I read in another topic that this model allegedly includes an additional chip that enhances the color of the playfield. Is this true? Would this mean the Vader is the best system for playing your 2600 games? Thanks in advance for your help.
  8. Thank you. I just placed my order. Very cool. Now I can get serious about my collection. I've been wanting to clean things up and organize my stuff for a while. Yes, its definitely that headphone style AC jack. It's loose and it wiggles. If I hold the machine steady it works just fine. So I'm hoping I don't have to replace the whole AC jack. Just maybe fix the connection between this jack and the rest of the hardware. Honestly, this is where I admit that I'm a total noob when it comes to soddering. I've been wanting to learn for years and I'd love for this to be my first project. (everybody has to start somewhere.) But I am worried I might be in over my head. Do any of you think I can do this fix easily?
  9. Greetings Everyone. As you can tell I'm a new member. Every once in a while someone will post a topic saying "I'm new the Atari 2600 and I have some questions." I was wondering if we could have an official, pinned, noob questions topic? This would make it easy for new members such as myself to gather information. The first post could also include links to all the basic and most common questions. (Links to cleaning topics, rarity guides, homebrew 101, fix it, development, etc.) I have a few questions to start things off. First, where can I get those protective plastic bags for my Atari 2600 carts and game boxes? I've seen them in a few collection photos but I haven't been able to discover their source. (I think my search criteria was too vague.) Second, I recently purchased a Hong Kong 6 switch Atari 2600. Unfortunately the power socket wiggles and I lose power while playing my games. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem. My soddering abilities are very limited but I may be able to fix the problem myself with the right instruction. Thanks for hearing my ideas.
  10. [tinfoil hat] This was all a viral advertisement. The new corporate Atari is trying to cash in on their nostalgic image. [/tinfoil hat]
  11. 1. Missile Command 2. Kaboom 3. Megamania 4. Adventure 5. E.T. 6. Raiders of the Lost Ark 7. River Raid 8. Seaquest 9. Combat 10. M*A*S*H
  12. Greetings! I believe I met you at CGE. Awesome site you have here. Thanks for having me.

  13. I'd buy 5 copies and give them to all my friends.
  14. I have around 300 games in my entire collection. That's an incredible haul you have there. wow!
  15. Not only Kaboom my favorite paddle game its also one of my absolute favorite Atari 2600 games. I was a addicted to that game. I still feel the need to play it at least once or twice a year. In fact I'm trying to get a new 2600 so that I can get my Kaboom fix.
  16. Does anyone know the exact release date for this game? I just checked ebgames.com and I did not find a listing.
  17. I used to buy a lot of vintage gaming stuff from a guy in Schenectady, NY. He sold me at least two or three of these white label Colecovision carts. I always wanted to know the truth about them. I assumed they were carts for retail demo units. I still have them in my collection but unfortunately my stuff is in another state. I know one of the games was Smurf and the other might have been Cosmic Avenger.
  18. Thanks Albert! I'm definitely going to order a few titles over the next couple of weeks and months. I played a lot of great stuff at the CGE. Plus I got a few solid recommendations from my fellow CGE gamers. I'll be busy for months. Feels good man.
  19. Good gravy! Why can't we have something cool like this in the States? I really wish I could attend this expo. I'll be looking forward to reading event coverage online.
  20. I just want to be on record as saying that the Atari Lynx version of his game is my favorite version. Lynx games had a unique visual style that I appreciate to this day. Plus I thought the gameplay was pretty tight. I used to especially enjoy the surfing. I played this game for years until my OG Lynx eventually died. (just a couple of years ago.) Good thing I just bought a new Lynx at CGE! Now I'm back into the game.
  21. I'd like to see them release another Atari Flashback console. This time with a cartridge port and some paddle controllers. I'm going to drive over to their offices and complain in person.
  22. Are copies of this game still available? I wanted to buy one at CGE but I ran out of cash. (lol, Vegas!)
  23. This game looks great! I can't wait to play it. I loved the original Smurf game for Colecovision. It was one of my favorite games on that system.
  24. LoL, that's completely awesome. I'm sure Bungie is flattered. After all this almost like viral promotion for their franchise. It shows the deep cultural impact the series has had on the gaming community. So cool....
