  1. got a second one here, well swapped the socketed IC only. also does not work. neither windows nor dos any sync recognition or else... NOTHING
  2. I remember that, even with the AtariMax SIO2PC in 1050/ProSystem mode, you had to have a computer attached and powered on. You would think that the 1050 would power the SIO port. Yes exactly, that is what i think ... thought. ok sry dudes i can't stand it anymore now... i will try that tomorrow. i first had the atari connected and the sio cable in the sio port where the soldering was done... but maybe wrong method and cable used. the guy sent me a 9-pin cable but not the right one F/F, but F/M... and i used gender changer, but cable wasn't 1:1... measured that out pin for pin then i tried without 800 XL, but with 1:1 cable selfbuilt but too short, therefore no 800 XL connected! alright. damn man.. if that's the error i hope i have a better day tomorrow EDIT2: the manual says power comes from PC COM-Port, no 800 XL required. and even must not be connected because of possible overload.. eek but well, everythings' still working (besides the 1050-2-pc) EDIT3: well not my fault not RTFM, but the PRINTED manual that came with that piece of hardware doesn't have that "possible damage" passage, only the online manual there's a more recent one now (well how should i know if for same hardware revision...) ARGH printed from 2005, online from 2008.. why not print actual and ship with product... for newbies...
  3. Yes the Atari needs to be connected for power managment. Unless and you didn't state that the 1050-2-PC was powered seperately. Well I'm told to solder one cable on PIN 10 SIO which is +5V VCC, isn't that voltage from the 1050 diskdrive??
  4. hello! i'm sitting over my atari stuff, hardware and hassles since more than 18 hrs now... got some other problems declared in another thread too... now i have bought an internal 1050-2-PC, experts of you might know what that is... simple 5 cables, IC, switch, some caps, res' and 9-pin D-SUB out... so well i did solder it in correctly, double checked ah... 10x checked the connections, and if there's any connection who should NOT be there also... do i need a special cable to connect to PC com-port? i got a 1:1 connection here? do i need special settings for the com-port in windows driver management? is it because the turbo modification that there are other SIO commands used? does it matter on WHAT of the both SIO ports i solder the 5 cables? (guess not)? do i need to have the atari connected (guess not)? drive has turbo 1050 expansion! works on standard 800 XL... ok sometimes some loading errors, at most at FIRST start!! why??? just hangs, nothing goes anymore further and i have to totally reboot... on connecting to PC i tested every switch mode, only two on there 1050-2-PC. software 2.20, 3.02 APE/Pro System windows AND DOS on MS-DOS PC i use for transfering my C64 stuff... well on NO PC it's working. am i dumb or what? tried every switch, checked the cable if not crossed, nullmodem or else, checked every com-port and settings in windows AND MS-DOS... i'm at my wit's end... nmaybe there's a trick or something i could measure? if not... the stuff gets back to seller if any possibility for a self-built one, please let me know, i'm going to order some stuff at my fave electronics dealer soon along with my RAM issue in another thread thx in advance!! regards marquisor
  5. Yo, the problem is: the working one hasn't socketed RAM chips. i won't solder them all out just for a little test... i guess the 74xxxx might be right, for some cents i'll buy some ICs in my next order and try it. They cost 0,22€ each. BTW: new, better by me, better relationship between music and I/O noise recognizable! So this is really that loud the I/O? EDIT: Found .... So that I/O noise at that "noisyness" seems to be normal.. WTF, annoying sometimes!
  6. Ok, funny.. ?!?! I have no BASIC cartridge. It won't start any cartridge. btw: here's the I/O record on YT of the "working" 800 XL. just to keep sure all is ok if some of you experts could confirm?! thx!! @Rybags: Good to know, thx. yes i have a pump here and know what you're meaning, heat up the topside (left) and suck the iron on downside (right) of the board? well i read of cutting the pins or using braid/wick and so on... but this idea came not yet to my mind, sounds good! I think i'll get some of the ICs and other stuff along with my next order so i can try if that could be the error. if i know find out it's only another error pattern i have to start over and wait till the ICs arrived and start over again. still have to build in sio2pc internal and 1050-2-pc...
  7. Hi Rybags, you mean the SN74LS158N with each other? pity they aren't socketed, so i have to get sockets before? or at least something to desolder.. (braid/wick) if i order at my fave electronics dealer i should even get some of those LS158 Schottky ?? "Datenblatt/Beschreibung" opens link to .pdf with english data sheet and usage of that IC... if they'd be compatible?! i'm preparing YT video just for double check I/O noise is normal ... phew
  8. hi folks and 8bit esp. atari fellas! new here to this forum and to the 800 XL, since i saw it on different media and the games and emulator and possibilities i wanted to get one! so well now i got two! but also got problems ... well a bad beginning for me *sigh* ok 1st one has RAM error on turn on. picture here: and the resp. faulty board: so what i now did till now is cleaning all socketed chips and sockets, reset them etc. nothing changed, absolutely nothing, after 50th time turned on/off.. reset them gently, swapping all socketed with my "working" one, but the RAMs, they're not socketed on my "working" one. it seems to be smthng. else, another guy from another forum dealing with own created hardware etc. meant it could be something with the 74LSxxxx? chips? i dunno... my 2nd 800 XL gets through all tests fine, loads and plays cartridge i have one "Joust". but it makes a crackling (pokey?) sound if seeking on SIO? only at cold start. the disk drive and loading its BIOS etc... is that normal??? guess not... *sigh* ok the disk drive is another problem got one with centronics cable, it shows smthng. with Berndhard Egle etc. Turbo stuff... well i think this is the well known famouse turbo 1050... but i don't have any interface/cable for it to connect, so it seems to fail on my "standard" XL????? have one disk which should be normally bootable some kinda mag/PD demo disk stuff... but does not. i hope you could help me, thx in advance regards from germany marquisor
