  2. Okay, How many people have seen the video on youtube with the bald headed guy washing off a junior motherboard and then banging it in the oven to bake for some fourty minutes? Anyone had any experience of this?I cant actually see how this can work with the possible exception that is would,in theory, clean any dry joints on the board and then the action of the heat from the oven COULD,technically, remelt the solder creating fresh joints.Or am I talking out of my a**e! The reviews he gets state that this technique is succesful, but,I am a bit reluctant to try it. Any thoughts?
  3. I certainly wouldnt sell it!A Sears is a rare piece of kit and can only go up in value.Good idea to have it converted to composite as long as its been done neatly.Lots of people out there just bodge holes in the case to feed the cables through.Over here, not many people know what a Sears is so havent got a clue really as to its value.A Good light Sixer in restored condition will usually go for about £60-75.I personally wouldnt sell mine for the world though!
  4. The 4 switch models especially the Vader models seem to give most of the problems.Am I right in suspecting a cheaper manufacturing technique?Having said that, both my Vaders were made in Ireland (I am in the U.K) as was my Junior Black 2600 which, interestingly, has the date of December 1984 stamped on the motherboard.HHmmm.Some three years before they were supposed to be made???
  5. I have just restored a 4 switch Vader using a donor 2600 Long Rainbow.Sacrilige I know but I used all the chips from the 2600 Revision D board which was a pain as they were all soldered in place.Replanted them into my dead Vader but still no good.It turned out to be the large Capacitor just below the on/off switch (on a PAL board). So after almost giving up and running back and forth trying the board out after each chip was inserted,it turned out to be a lousy Capacitor!Moral of the story?Dont always dive straight in and assume the Chips are at fault, they usually are not.It is normally a simple component that causes a V.C.S to malfunction.Oh,and yes,i have fired up a bare Vader motherboard with only the PSU and RF lead in,totally safe, mind you,we have Laminate Flooring!I wouldnt try it on carpet, especially deep pile.
  6. Ok just a quick update. My VCS Vader 2600 was bought new in box but did not work.A second VADER bought from eBay was also found to be faulty.Mmmm.I had a good 2600 Junior Black Irish import but with a knackered cart slot.No worries,I had 2 Junior long rainbows and 1 Junior short rainbow so transplanted the good board from one long rainbow into the Junior Black.I should mention that the sacrificial Junior was missing the lugs on the cart slot so would not play earlier Atari games. My main question is,does anyone on here able to resolder my good chips into my 4 switch motherboard??????Tricky I know and it was hard enough to remove them (thank god for solder suckers!
  7. Boxed light sixers usually sell over here for around £60-75 in good condition.Heavy sixers will get whatever people will pay for them but usually they go for around £100-£120 in nice conidtion.Vaders in original boxes in good condition are anywhere between £30-£60.
  8. Hi,yes agree about the juniors.I have a long rainbow, short rainbow and black irish import. The reason for breaking my one junior (i have two long rainbows) is that the cart slot is damaged so the main board still works fine.Still prefer the woodys though.Gutted that my Vader didnt work though.Bought it in original box etc in good faith from a guy who assured me that it worked. My own fault I suppose for not checking it!!!!!
  9. I have a dead V.C.S VADER U.K PAL Model.I think it is a fault with the TIA chip.I have a good working Junior Black motherboard circa 1984.My question is can the chips which look the same be used to revive my Vader?Which is the TIA chip under the shielding and what is the best way to unsolder it?
  10. Obviously they are trying to cash in on the Atari legend. As a famous person (Ozzy Osbourne) once said "There is no such thing as bad publicity"
  11. I wouldnt want arrows shooting up my arse for the sake of doing an Indian!Well, maybe if it was a hot Madras.Hehehehe
  12. Thought they were buried and then concrete poured over the top!God,Over here we would have a huge housing estate on top of them by now full of illegal immigrants.Maybe if I dig up my back garden may find copies of QUADRUN.WISH
  13. Could it be like an import version of the 32 in 1 cart ableit not as many games?Don't know!
  14. God,Kaboom on speed!!!!Quick enough already thanks!Maybe my paddles need renovating
