  1. I learned yesterday the Halo was originally a Dreamcast project, until MS bought Bungie.  Been musing on this, fascinating to think about.  As a HUGE DC and Sega fan as I am...I think it worked out better for the game and for Bungie.  Even if the DC Halo had been fantastic, the DC just wasn't promoted and didn't play DVDs so it was destined to lose.  Halo would've just been another great Dreamcast game.  With the MS marketing machine (plus the power of the Dreamcast 2 aka Xbox), well, it just became what it did.  And I think it's for the better.

Lots of speculation, Quake was rumored for Jaguar too! ;-)

Maybe it's this one, but its not the FPS  Halo, but a strategic 3rd person action game:

You gave yourself the answer: the controller was not designed for FPS, as it lacks a second stick. The keyboard/mice combo was ok, but it felt like a crook and was not better than a proper controller. Last but not least, the hardware itself was underpowered compared to PC. So, genres like FPS and RTS were designed for PC and not consoles. Console gamers prefered different genres, like RPGs or Action adventure.

Xbox was the first console that got really serious with FPS on consoles, infact Halo was its killer app.

It was supposed to be the next killer PC FPS. Then MS bought Bungie and it became Xbox exclusive.

First time i heard it was supposed for Dreamcast, its very unlikely, as the DC is simply not a very good platform for FPS .

  5. The further down the Jaguar rabbit hole I go, the more respect I gain for the hardware and its capabilities. The cost: increased disgust with how Atari handled the architecture.

Iron Soldier was created within 9 months. 2 years for our "Graitic Mines", but that is because we are only 2 creating all the content and implenting it.

The Lynx was very powerful and fun to code for but just as underused as the Jaguar, with only 50-60 games produced for it.

You don't need 20 years to get a cool game running on the Jaguar ;-)
