    Movie Cart

Any new updates on this thread? I loved this project... haven't heard anything new now since January!
  2. Hey, guys. Normally, I wouldn't post something like this here because I try to stay on topic, but I did mention Atari in my latest Sci Fi livestream (very briefly in passing) as I was talking about Tron (the original movie). If this is of any interest to you, you can check it out here: Any comments/criticisms are most welcome as I'm a bit new to this. I'm having a bit of trouble keeping the volume levels consistent between clips and dialog. Yes, I could be closer to the microphone, I suppose.
  3. ...wait... Have you inserted a cartridge into the unit?
  4. When I had my boxes made up for Another Adventure, I used NickPrint.com for my printing needs. Anything can be done, but one-offs are quite expensive. If you want to print to the right density of card for the box but want to cut it yourself with an Exacto knife, that will be much cheaper than attempting to get one pre-cut and scored.
  5. This is great... you did a fantastic job of latching into the storyline and using the "Upside Down" as part of the gameplay... I applaud your creativity!
  6. I agree with this one, except the mini-games COULD have been fun if part of a real quest that is more objective-based (get something specific, to get something more specific which will win the game)... Even if it was a more involved version of Adventure (get the golden chalice, return it to the palace concept), it could have been fantastic. I think the SwordQuest games should have been loosely based on the story of Gilgamesh or something, or Jason and the Fleece at the End of the World. Then, you'd have a really cool backstory, but a definite objective.
  7. Interestingly, I attempted a video output mod job on an Atari Jr. a few years back and the brittle casing shattered while drilling a hole. I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a one-off problem, but the Atari Jr. plastic may be too brittle to mess with.
  8. I had no negative opinion of E.T. (the game) as a kid. I thought it was light-years ahead of other games simply because it had an opening screen with an actual picture of E.T. The game had a spaceship that landed, and that was cool. Once you realized where the pits were on the edge of the screens, you knew better than to fall into them. It was always a race against time to get it all done before your energy was depleted, but the game was decent. It's not HSW's fault that Atari produced too many of the cartridge. FOUR MILLION???? Are you CRAZY???? How many copies of ADVENTURE (released in 1980) sold? Anyone? ONE MILLION.
  9. I voted Pac-Man because I despise the color choice and the fact that "little" things could have been improved to make it so much better. The blue/yellow looked TERRIBLE on my old CRT TV. I had Defender back in the day before I ever played the arcade and I thought it was just fine. I don't get what people don't like about it. Same with Donkey Kong... I had the cartridge before I played the arcade game and found it quite fun. Yeah, the arcade game is so much better after I finally played it, but I accepted that those arcade games were light years ahead of my Atari 2600. Zaxxon is TERRIBLE, but I never liked the arcade game either... I hated the "perspective" of the original and the Atari game held no interest for me. I probably picked the game up at a garage sale for $.25, but because I didn't have it or Amidar back in "the day" (only long after, when you found this stuff in garage sales for $.25 each), I didn't have my opinion "bake in" to my conscience.
  10. Adding this to the thread... An Atari 2600 appears in the opening scenes of "American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story." American Underdog stars Zach Levi, Adam Baldwin, and tells the story of Kurt Warner, who went from working in a grocery store to NFL quarterback. The film was released late 2021. The cartridge lying on top of the Atari looks like Barnstorming to me... right color, right length of the title... Looking at the screen, they may be playing Atari Football...
  11. Just curious... has this been tested on an Atari? The cartridge shape looks like a different system altogether, but the prongs suggest it opens a 2600.
  12. The cartridge lying on top of the Atari looks like Barnstorming to me... right color, right length of the title... What does everyone else think?
  14. When I was a kid, I really enjoyed Tac-Scan. I never see it making the lists of anyone's favorite, but I played it like crazy... As a paddle-control game, it had a totally different feel than most space shooters.
  15. The new game "Fallpit" is probably EXACTLY what you are looking for (24:48 minute mark on this video):
  16. I received mine for Christmas and I want to say it was probably 1980. It was a light sixer. It was a gift from my parents (specifically, this one said from mom) and I was surprised because we were DIRT POOR at the time and had almost no extra money. I still have it to this day.
  17. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a great game. As a kid pre-internet, it drove me nuts attempting to defeat it, but I really liked it. There are a variety of memories I have about it... 1) It took me forever to figure out how to get past the crazy person in the black market. 2) I hated waiting around in the map room for the spot to blink. 3) The parachute jump at the end was SO HARD, it bugged me that you could lose everything you were playing for with one badly timed leap. 4) The game felt "huge," even though it's not really all that big. 5) The game was unforgiving. If you forgot something, you were in trouble.
  18. I hear that even construction sites get involved in grading...
  19. Because Atari Adventure is a key plot point in the "Ready Player One" movie, I think it has a bigger value now than a few years ago, just by putting the title in front of all the younger generations. Anyone else find it annoying they put the Adventure "win" sound in for finding the Easter Egg, when the real game doesn't do that? LOL
  20. Well, if you KNOW it's a bubble, RIDE IT OUT. Otherwise, now may be a good time to sell. My son decided to sell his Pokemon cards this past year and made out VERY well. And he used Heritage Auctions. The prices started to decline AFTER he sold.
  21. This is an odd topic for a thread, but I was thinking back to when I got Space Shuttle for the Atari 2600 as a kid... It's funny, but I seem to remember looking at the box and saying, "Wait, you don't encounter any enemies or aliens?" Still, the imagery on the box was astounding and the Space Shuttle program was a source of interest for me, so I just HAD to have this cartridge. I remember playing it quite a bit, trying to score a successful mission. I never EVER recall it being "fun," but I do remember wanting to play it for its challenge sake. As an adult, I look back at it and think, "You know, this was never really meant to be 'fun,' but more of an 'experience' to make you appreciate the US Space Shuttle program." It far outshines the other "educational" games for the Atari (like Math Grand Prix), but it did make me wonder... were there other original "games" for the Atari 2600 that were never intended to be "fun?"
  22. Another excellent video, and the absolute BEST Atari party game that can still be enjoyed by groups of people today!
  23. I don't know if this is unpopular or not, but Atari Superman is in my top 3 Atari 2600 games of all time.
  24. LOL, I rank this in the bottom 10 Atari 2600 games released in that era. The only thing going for it (maybe) is the box art... It's worse than Dishaster and Picnic, which are two of the WORST concepts for a video game.... you're a teen in the 1980's... would you buy these titles at full price?
  25. Robot Tank is better than Battlezone
