  1. Yep, very typical "Atari communication": Just make a generic post saying "You're doing great carrying on a discussion here! :D", then only answering questions from people who are asking stupid things like "I LOVE ATARI! will this play Yar's Revenge and Asteroid? " For the rest of us asking legitimate questions, here's the response we get: ? (also, I've seen Atari even ignore its own diehard supporters, when they ask legitimate things too.)
  2. If PowerA is doing the joystick controller as well as the modern controller (which it sounds like they are), I would be more willing to trust them than Atari, because PowerA has a track record of actually releasing products.
  3. I was referring to the backer units, which there will probably need to be between 6,000-10,000 of. For any other company, that number makes no sense, but for Atari-- thats a MASSIVE undertaking. xD I actually have a couple of PowerA's controllers-- they're honestly pretty good, and they look cool too. I think I might be the only one that actually likes their stuff, lol
  4. Very little of what Atari's been doing has actually been ethical. Having said that, I can see why the PCMag article can make backers happy-- it actually comforts me a little bit to see somebody else besides Atari taking a look at this thing in person. Because of that, I think the system does in fact exist to some degree. I have a lot of questions about whether or not they can make enough units though-- that remains to be seen.
  5. I've been doing a lot of solo projects mainly, and I've been making games in Game Maker since I was like 11. I also programmed about a dozen or so Atari 2600 games in Visual batariBasic (one of which was for AVGN). I also made an Ouya game called Game Catcher, and my most recent one was Ballzerk for Android/iOS. Lol. I was really interested in doing a more ambitious open-world 2D platformer with native 4K graphics, exclusively for the VCS. That's why I was saying before-- this whole situation is kinda saddening/frusterating for me, and its also why ive been particularly vocal about the VCS over the past 2 years or so. I really wanted to do something FOR it, but Atari didnt care obviously. I had an artist lined up and everything. XD
  6. Lul, i was probably the last standalone person that actually wanted to, until Atari burnt me too. o u o
  7. It could be a hard drive, don't know. If the Atari VCS is basically just like any other x86/64-based PC, it is probably able to boot up via USB device.
  8. It's interesting to see everyone kind of trying to figure out/debate whether the footage is real or fake. o u o I have a feeling it is real, finally. I mean..... I would fucking hope so by this point. If it's actually proven to be fake, then that's the end of their company, simply put. Right now, it could honestly go either way. The fact that the guy was playing the game using a wireless controller doesn't mean anything. The VCS could easily have bluetooth built in, or at the very least a USB Bluetooth receiver. Since that is in fact a possibility, it's not a good idea to automatically assume "FAAAAKE" just because he's playing with a wireless controller. If it sounds like I'm supporting the VCS suddenly-- I assure you, I'm not. I'm being very much realistic here and pointing out all the possibilities. Sure, you could be right that it's fake, and I could be wrong. But until it's finally proven either way, we can all make up theories that either explain and validate the footage as being real OR being fake.
  9. I wish you the best of luck in getting Atari to respond to you for clarification on anything. They've done an awful job at that.... Actually, to be perfectly honest, they haven't done that. Lol. Their communication is literally non-existent except when people are saying "We're excited for the VCS! :D" etc. Funny thing is, I've seen diehard supporters like Jessie Scroggins ask some perfectly legitimate questions directed to Atari in the IGG comments, and they never responded to him-- yet he lets it slide that way and continues about his positive tone. How the hell does that NOT raise any red flags in his head? I have no idea...
  10. I don't think I've ever heard a teenager talk like that. xD Not even in the 1990's. Lol. o u o
  11. I might differ just a smidge. The videos are definitely awkward and edited, I'll grant you that. But with the two videos we got today-- the bootup sequence and the Fortnite gameplay-- I would go as far as to say that the Atari VCS does in fact exist to some capacity now. Now one thing that's definitely uncertain-- can they make 10k of these? Lol...
  12. LOL. xDD Honestly though-- it's depressing. >.< I remember originally being so excited to develop an exclusive game, and what I got from Atari just felt like a big smack in the face. And now we're actually getting more glimpses of hardware, and it looks fun > w <
  13. Honestly I'm saddened by all this, because as it turned out-- they actually have a system of some sort... and it's a pretty neat-looking piece of hardware. But Atari burned me as a developer with their shoddy communication, so I'm not making my game for them anymore. ?
  14. You can say that again, lol. New video on their Twitter showing Fortnite gameplay, and now this article just appeared: https://uk.pcmag.com/nintendo-switch/124433/hands-on-with-the-atari-vcs-a-strange-streaming-slice-of-nostalgia?fbclid=IwAR1TtxPrioe5jaQIY0vznl7q-9m1STaJjvFwgFCzyL0Pw1K_WTiyCi84ReQ Frankly, I'm actually impressed. Seems like they've got a functional system here. Can't believe I'm actually saying this, color me stunned-- but Kudos to Atari. o 3 o
  15. Hey, you know what though? Props to them showing an actual clear video with decent lighting, demonstrating the system booting up into an operating system of some kind. xD EDIT: Wait a minute... what the fuck? What's up with the jump cut at the 9 second mark? 2nd edit: Just realized you already pointed that out. LOL. Oopsie on my part. o u o 3rd edit: Question regarding the mirror-- can anyone see if our friendly mirror can tell us whether HDMI cable is in fact coming out of the Atari VCS and going up to the TV?
  16. If anything, Atari should've just done a console-sized gaming PC from the start. The "Atari OS/Atari World" portion of the system literally has no point whatsoever. Lol.
  17. Yeah, it's pretty saddening to see Atari reduced to this frankly. I'm hoping they at least manage to pull through with this system and at least deliver something to the backers. If I get mine, I have my own use case scenario for it, and I'm sure I'll have fun with it. The controllers also look cool, and I've actually had good luck with PowerA controllers in the past anyway, so I'll be happy to try those out.
  18. Despite all that happening, I'm actually pretty happy with how Sega's turned out up till this point. They're even back in the hardware game again at some level with the Genesis Mini-- and that system is awesome. ;D
  19. I'm gonna play devils' advocate a bit here. If you have a look at the top of the screen, theres actually different sections for "Home", "Games", "Apps", "Store", etc. When you see him scroll right and the apps "repeating" themselves, he's actually switching between different sections (e.g. moving from "Home" to "Games"). The home section probably just displays your recently played apps or something. The rest of the stuff you pointed out is top-notch stuff though. Free Windows 10? I wish. LOL. Who even uses Redbox for movies? o w o I kinda wish they took the layout and spacing of the "Store" section and put it in the other sections as well. The lack of consistency there is jarring, but the "Store" section is easier for my eyes to adjust to. When i get my unit, I'm probably never going to use this UI because of how clunky it looks. Ill load retroarch on there and be done with it.
  20. Even though it looks better in motion, I have to agree with you there-- it looks thrown together still... It's nice that they FINALLY demonstrated the console booting up, but at this point it's honestly too little too late. They're releasing the actual info we've been asking for as mere twitter posts, not as part of a Medium.com update. It just saddens me that there's so much wasted resources in this project. They've completely tarnished the Atari brand, and theyve used up $3 million of backers money to deliver a product that they dont even know how to communicate to us what it fucking IS.....
  21. I'll be honest-- the new UI looks way better in motion than it did in the still images. Props to Atari for putting that together. The thing is-- why in the holy mother of fuck didnt they show us that UI earlier? Also, where are the other software-related things, like the SDK, and uh..... THE GAMES?
  22. HOLY SHIT, THEY ACTUALLY SHOWED OFF THE UI FINALLY..... lol. o 3 o ........... and it looks nothing like the original "concept" UI:
  23. Interesting, so does this mean they are actually at CES? o.o
