  1. "...Josephus and forty of his fellow soldiers..." Josephus = 1 and = + forty of his fellow soldiers = 40 1 + 40 = 41 "Josephus and forty of his fellow soldiers" = 41 Gazoo
  2. I got 31 also, with a trusty old pencil and piece of paper. Write down the numbers and cross them off as you count. You guys all did it the hard way. Gazoo
  3. It took 3 tries to get a good one. Thanks! Note to others: If you have a problem, keep trying until you get a complete file. Gazoo
  4. Attempting to unpack the file with WinRAR gives several errors: ! G:\TI\TI99-4Av2.rar: CRC failed in TI99-4Av2\Emulators\MESS 140\mess.exe. The file is corrupt ! G:\TI\TI99-4Av2.rar: Unexpected end of archive Gazoo
  5. The one non-standard item on the card is the Pal. If you want to make your own card, you may be able to get the Pal from Richard Bell. Here's a pic of the one I built on a proto board. Gazoo
  6. Something's wrong in the dark blue boxes area. Do you have a Memex or 512k card in the config? If so, take it out. Turn off the Ramdisk, too. Might be a 32k on the Ramdisk problem. Gazoo
  7. The particular version of Mdos on the disk is set for the Ramdisk to respond as G: or DSK6. Everything on the menu should load without incident. I fixed the paths that didn't load when I eliminated the Ramdisk, and then double checked all menu items. Everything loads fine for me, even sub-menus like in Boot, Educational Cartridges, and Games. I also downloaded the image files, rejoined them, and tested that image file with no trouble. The only thing I can imagine that may be causing you trouble is that you don't have Mess configured for expanded memory. You should at least have the additional 384k turned on. Gazoo
  8. After having a hard drive with my TI for 25 years now, I can't imagine trying to struggle by without one. I have no use for floppies anymore as my 'hard drive' in both my TI & Geneve systems is a CF card. If I want to transfer files to or from my PC to TI or Geneve I just plug the CF card into the PC and read or write as necessary. Purpose? Run any program or cartridge whenever one wants from a menu without having to swap around floppies, ever. Assembling? Wouldn't want to do it without a hard drive. Gazoo
  9. That's the normal behavior of FORM3MEG. It returns to the menu after the operation. Apparently you were successful. To make things simpler, I've uploaded new hard drive image files to the Geneve Yahoo group's file section. It does not require an emulated Ramdisk and should run 'right out of the box' for you now. Gazoo
  10. It's not just TV, he's all over the radio too!
  11. Does anyone else want to shoot the screaming asshole on the Honda commercials, or is it just me?
  12. Looks like you've got everything set up correctly, answer y, n, n to the Form3meg queries. And no reason to abandon the TI for a Geneve, they're both just as much fun. Expand the TI with a 9938 device, a Ramdisk, and a hard drive and you've got something very special. Gazoo
  13. Ok, I see the problem you're having. 'G:' is a 2 meg ramdisk in PEB slot 4. Set it up for CRU >1400 in the Dip Switches. Format it with FORM3MEG in the E:\U. directory. Copy all the files from the E:\DSK6. directory to the G: directory, including sub directories 'A', 'FWB', and 'U'. You should have a working MDOS system with embedded GPL now. The main menu looks like this: Gazoo
  14. Does everything else on the menu other than DM1000 work ok? I have no trouble loading DM1000 by selecting 'Y' from the menu. Just checked the other files you mentioned. FAST is an old program that sets Turbo mode, it really doesn't have any effect anymore. FORMATIS is the second file in the chain of FORMATIT. The program is the floppy disk formatter selected by 'N' from the menu. XCOPY works ok, too. Gazoo
  15. Are you booting from the Hard drive image? The AUTOEXEC is set up for that. In order to preload the GPL files, the GPLTEST file returns a 'Y' if GPL has been loaded. Else it loads the GPL files through the GPLINIT series of files. Your loop may be there if you're failing to load the GPL files. Is that where you're getting stuck? Gazoo
  16. Read the docs in the folder, you have to join the 3 files to get a complete image. This is due to a file size restriction of Yahoo's. There's a utility in the folder to join them. Gazoo
  17. Check out this group: http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Geneve9640/info And you'll find a hard drive image all set up with oodles of stuff to run from a menu here: http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Geneve9640/files/MdosGpl/ Gazoo
  18. Click start and type CMD in the Run window. In the black screen that opens type FORMAT A: and hit the enter key. Gazoo

  20. .dsk images are used as-is. Click on 'devices' in the MESS menu bar, you will see 4 floppy disk selections in the drop down menu for drives 1 through 4 counted from the top down. Move the mouse to one of them and a menu appears to the right. Select 'mount' and choose the .dsk file you want to work in that drive. Just like inserting a floppy. No converting necessary, simple as pie. .rpk files are zip files. Use Winzip to work with them or change the extension to .zip to use the compressed folder option, then change the extension back when you're done. Gazoo
  21. TAKING ANOTHER TACK Just jumping in with another reason to have the expanded Vram available - Programming. Fire up Funnelweb configured for 80 columns and 128k buffer. Load the file SOURCE from the disk image attached to this message. It's about 60k. I like to be able to view the entire source of a program, rather than the time consuming process of loading shorter segments to find the part I'm looking for, and Funnelweb allows me to do this. Saves a lot of time for me and makes the process infinitely easier. If I had to go back to a 16k buffer I'd probably discontinue my programming efforts, too much of a hardship. I'm sure there will be many jumping in to berate me for my opinions as this is the standard practice on this forum, but I've got big shoulders and can put up with that childish nonsense. 22. Ok, The one best piece of TI hardware I can imagine that has not yet been created is a replacement for the v9938. This replacement would be pin compatible and be in the form of a Daughter Board that plugs in where the v9938 was. It would have a vga output, as well as a mouse port. The full 192k vram would be included on the board. The board would be an excellent way to help keep all of the existing TIMs, Digit Cards, Mechatronic sidecars, EVPC cards, EVPC2 cards, and Geneves up and running if the supply of compatible monitors drys up. Thankfully there seems to be a pretty decent amount of 910MPs floating around to keep the community going for a little while. An offshoot of the project could be a pbox card that would accept the Daughter Board, It could be much less complicated than existing V9938 cards as it would not need to contain the Vram. Seems as if a voltage regulator and a few logic chips would be all that's necessary. Those that never had a TI with a v9938 could finally find out what they've been missing, and those that had one in the past could replace what they had. And the code to do it already exists! I don't know if it's complete and bug free, but it's here: http://sblive.narod.ru/ZX-Spectrum/V9938/V9938.htm All we need is someone with the skills to make it work. I volunteer to help solder. Gazoo
  23. What's going to go wrong with the PEB? Power supply? Replace it with a new PC power supply. Case get demolished? Unlikely. Backplane go bad? There's a possibility, but a piece of emery cloth will probably restore the contacts. Gazoo
