  1.  on catching the issue with the Print Wheel and replacing it as well as throwing in a spare.

As far as my custom setup of programs on the CF Card, everything is listed out in the IDE Card thread that was started by Joe B. Also included is the link to a MediaFile file sharer where I uploaded the image file of my CF Card. It's all there for anyone to put to good use. As I stated, I need to get back to configuring more ADAM software on the CF Card, but I got so many other endeavors going on currently that I haven't found the needed time to revisit this project.

I've been meaning to ask you if anyone has ever made a complete scan of the "ADAM Survival Guide" by A.N.N.? I'm nearing the end of scanning, taking pictures and documenting everything I can about the ColecoVision and am starting to think of all the ADAM related items that have yet to be preserved properly.

Hmmm. I don't think that there is a scan of the ADAM Survival Guide that I know of. ANN does have the full scans of the ColecoVision Technical and Prigrammers manuals, as well as the ADAM Technical manual - all on line @ http:// ann.hollowdreams.com Will try and remember to "put the hurt" on the net while I recover from knee replacement this week; need something to do :)

Have a GREAT Easter week, ya'll !!!!!!!! now if I could type and spell, i wouldn't have to edit my posts :-o

  2. Jim, I did replace the printwheel when I saw the U key gone, and it is mentioned on the paper under the platen. I also gave him an extra print wheel. There are the games, etc on the cf hd system; BUT I need the setup of software from you, I never got it. :( Could use it on the next cf hd sale! Have never tried the brightening solution myself either and would like to know if it is esy and works without ruining the ADAM's plastic. I have some really bad plastic, especially keys on the keyboards.......some dark yellow, don't know if they can be saved

Congrats on you ADAM computer pickup and I hope you enjoy using it as much as I have over the last 30 years. You should check out the two websites linked in the footer of my messages for a phlethora of ADAM information, especially all the newsletters in PDF format.

The box and system look to be in great shape (sans the discoloration) and you made a wise choice buying everything from Bob S. (adamcon on here). As fas as alternate video hookups, you can use a standard Composite Video cable in the VIDEO output jack and then to Composite Video on your display device OR you can buy a C=64 or TI99-4/A 5-Pin DIN Monitor Cable to Composite Video (yellow) and Audio (red and white) RCA jacks. Don't fret that the ADAM DIN connector is 7-Pin, the 5-Pin DIN will work.

Did Bob. S supply my IDE setup of software that I made available in another thread on here? If so, enjoy, there's a lot of good games all ready to play.

As far as the Retrobrite product, I have never tried it so when and if you do, please do let us know how it works on the ADAM as I might have a need after a recent flurry of purchasing... I just couldn't resist the temptation!!!

If you want to save some space, contact DJPUBBA for the ADAM Power Supply that he sells.

EDIT: Looks like the "U" on the Print Wheel broke off when Bob was printing out that very nice letter. :(

  3. Hi All,

I am selling my Colecovision 128 in 1 cartrigde. It is the USB type. It comes with USB cable, original software disc and the cartridge. There is 128 games already on the cartrigde.

I am asking $80 dollars which will include shipping. I only accept Paypal. I have a 100% rating on Ebay. If interested or any questions please email at Dan6305@wowway.com.

    Thanks,

    Dan

DONE Dan. Tried sending to the .com arress, don't know if it went thru. Email me.... adamcomputer AT yahoo.com THANKS

  4. BTW, here is the original IDE Card/Drive release announcement thread by ADAMcon and in which I provide some detailed useage instructions.

Been following the thread here remotely on a tablet. SUCKS!!! Finally got a connection going here via real internet. Jim is on the ball here with his knowledge of the ide interface card. I will not be back home until March 1st to make any sales or ship any cards and/or setups. In Florida where it is warm......sorry guys in the cold north.... ;-)

  5. I'm out of my league with the hardware aspects of the ADAM computer, but couldn't the boot sequence for the IDE CF setup be done via a game cartridge? All inner components of the ADAM are available to any cartridge plugged into the cartridge port, are they not?

The IDE setup could indeed be via a game cartridge. Walters did just that many times with various programs; much the same as booting a cart, or SmartBASIC, or CP/M, or any other ADAM program. Now we just need someone to put it on an eprom and stick it into a cartridge shell. ;)

  6. I just bought my first Adam and I wish I had seen this before buying an Ultimate SD cart as this is more like what I wanted.

Well, except it doesn't have a boot ROM.

One thing... are you sure you can't power the CF card from the connector?

CF cards are very low power.

Yes, it can be powered from the ADAM, IF your ADAM power supply can handle the extra power needed. On the rare occasion we will find a power supply that is marginal or won't even run the data drive, but will run the ADAM. That is why we also provide an external mini power supply, so you do not need to worry about available power. We do have a boot rom for the IDE cf setup, but it requires you to buy a specific parallel printer card with boot prom socket on it- and they can be hard to come by, if not impossible.

  7. Shiver...Too many nightmares about the ADAM crashing just as I was finishing an English paper..no thanks!

Doc, that was almost 100% due to you not having a memory expander installed in your ADAM. Had that when we first got an ADAM, my daughter had to do a paper for school. Got to about page 9 or 10 and odd figures and fish were swimming all over the screen; luckily a neighbor who got us into the ADAM knew what the problem was and we cut the paper into separate files. Later got a memory expander and that solved the problem.........................but it still had it's limits, I am sure.

  8. MESSAGE TO PROTOTYPE(S) OWNERS!

You do realize the amount of prototypes that have been released throughout time, right? How else do you think the world has them to enjoy? I'm sure you've enjoyed some yourself, including Pacman, Matt Patrol, Joust, Fireman, A.E ..etc...... .How did you get to play it? Because people shared it.

Sure you don't have to necessarly release the rom (best way to go IMO) and/or making a cartridge/CIB release

I personally will never understand the idea of wanting to not preserve a game for all time by spreading it, but rather only wanting to preserve its value to... itself? I know if I ever come across more prototypes, it will be my number one priority to share it one way or another, because look at all the other prototypes out there that have ever been released. I've enjoyed the heck out of the privilege to even being able to play these games that otherwise would have been lost in time if people didn't share. When Smurf Saves the Day, Sword & Sorcerer, Dragon's Lair were found, they were not kept to the owners because they wanted to preserve the games legendary status. They shared it because otherwise the game is no better off than still being lost in time forever. When you keep it to yourself because you want to be exclusive and special(and sure, preserve the games status and value to... itself, whatever that's like.. supposed to be worth?), you're not really doing a favor for the whole community that's probably pulled more favors for you, the average prototype enthusiast, than you'll possibly ever know to acknowledge.

When a prototype is shared it's preserved throughout history, and even though more likely than not only the proto itself and not the person that shared it will be remembered, you've at least saved something that could otherwise have been lost to history. What good is a prototype, a piece of history of the hobby you love, to just sit in your closet and being kept to yourself after you've played it and then forget about it? In that case you've pretty much only paid just for the brief while to enjoy it for yourself, then once you're done it just sits there and possibly the media its own will die before you do. That's it, it's gone forever.

I understand in the end we all have our own ideals, but as far as general specific stance goes, I don't understand it at all.

Next time a prototype or something that interests you comes alone, you should think about what it would be like if the people that released it instead kept it to themselves for the same reasons you may have. You're not really doing anyone any favors. Of course there's the age old argument that you don't owe anyone anything, but I'm seriously doubting you haven't enjoyed some of the things out there that have been released by people that didn't owe you anything either. But they shared anyway.

At least with prototypes, there is a group ( CV Brotherhood) that will release EVERY prototypes they found/bough, and that are being very generous, so I would say you're going to yet again get the privilege soon enough to enjoy other games that could have been lost in history forever.

So, be patient! A.E & SOS Cat are going to SOON have a rom release! ;)

    Cheers Prototype Owners! :)

    J-F

JF, nobody could have said it better. AND made a convincing and sane argument to share any prototype, lost, unrelease, ets stuff from Coleco and other mankers. BRAVO, my hero !!

  9. I considered placing these custom labels on the cart shells very seriously before I did so and decided that it really didn't matter one way or the other due to the fact that the original hand written labels were placed on the cart shell by your's truly... there was no label of any kind on these cart shells. I also said to myself that I better take some pics before I place these new labels on them seeing as I will never have access to the PCBs again without destroying the new label.

Last, but not least, I do not forsee the day that I will ever part with them... so the decision ended up being very easy.

My wife understands the value of all this stuff (I sleep with one eye open if you know what I mean), so if I want to enjoy the afterlife... I better be smart about the decisions I make now. :P

I don't know about the one eye thing, but this time, do NOT let them slip thru your fingers! Awesome labels!!! :D

  10. "1 Much beloved copy of Stage Fright text adventure from Reedy Software (just has a printed white label on data pack, bootleg or is that normal?)

1 Lab Mouse from Reedy Software (same question as above...pic below)"

They are both original and not bootleg, that is the way Jack did all of the games he sold. Most if not all were programmed by others, and Jack just sold them thru his Reedy Software label.

  11. The best way is to figure things out is to ask with a picture. Remember, a pictureis worth a thousand words! Most of the ADAM stuff will be obvious how to plug it in, etc. If you go to my webpage and send me and email with your email address, I will send you a Coleco Disk Manager disk to use with the ADAM disk drive [free]. It is the best disk to tell if the disk drive is in calibration and working correctly. Between the disk and cleaning the disk with a special disk [i will give you one also], you will know for sure that the drive is clean and working. ;-)

  12. Mr. Do loose cart wish I could get even half the $555 the seller is asking for this.

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 3209969551051?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=320996955105&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

I wonder what the hell people are thinking when they put something like this up for such a ridicous price. $19.99 BIN with free shipping would be a rip off but at least a person might consider it, but $555 come on!

Todd, I could not agree with you more. This seller is a detriment to all that is good and holy....and fair....and moral. All his auctions are high priced, and I cannot imagine that anyone would buy his stuff unless he actually finds the needle in the haystack rare item and someone else realizes it after digging thru all his nutty pricing. Needless to say, I can't believe he is selling anything, just using up his 50 free auctions per month and cluttering up Ebay's auction site.

  13. The funny thing about people complaining about "not enough original games" is that I hardly sell Burn Rubber copies....there is plenty left! .... Compared to Arcade games wich quickly soldout each time!

    Same thing happened with Armageddon

Now waiting to see what will happen with Zombie Near...

THAT is unreal JF. Burn Rubber is an awesomw game!! Especially when you play head to head with 2 driving modules. I would have thought that they would fly off the shelf. I know when it was demo'd at ADAMCON in Montreal, I was hooked and had to have it......HAD TO!!

  14. I love the idea of a 2nd release of cv games. It gives those who didn't get in on the 1st release a chance to own it; whether they missed the 1st release or heard how great the game was or just want it at a later date or, or, or for whatever reason. The programmers and producers of the games have to be proud of their accomplishment in making games available and then having users ask for more. AND it hopefully gives them both a litte more cash in their pocket to work on other projects. [off my soapbox] :-D

  15. Time to have some fun playing around with this tremendous new hardware package... message is on the way to place an order.

BTW, you have my interest peaked by that statement, "There will be other Coleco hardware additions/replacements in the future also". Any clues that you could provide about what may be coming in the future? :)

Not anything I can tell you at this point in time Jim. BUT, testing on some other hardware is in progress and may be produced in the future. A time frame is not in place. good things take time! ;-) About the cf setup, this is going to blow you away with the speed of it. You may have used a physical ide drive, but the cf drive is almost instantaneous

  16. Compact flash card uses ide cable to hook into interface card. The cf card in the parts package includes10-3 mb EOS partitions with almost all CV games known in 2 partitions, SmartBasic is on a partition, ADAM calc is on a partition, Powerpaint is on a partition and various boot blocks for Coleco programs such as SmartFiler are on block 0 for booting once the program is copied to a partition. And TDOS is installed on the CP/M side of the cf card with 4 partitions (30 mbs) for programs..............pricing is on the ANN website for the card only (with software and docs) and the "package" is all the parts at cost to add to the interface card. (the cf adapter card NEEDS power which explains the power supply pictured)

I have posted pictures on the ANN website showing the various pieces and how they hook together to make up and IDE storage system. I hope that this will help show just what is entailed in making the IDE storage media a reality. Check it out

  17. Seeing that Doug was the brains behind this new IDE card makes it an even more special accomplishment. You gotta be a proud poppa! :P

I understood that the "CV games" reference was for ColecoVision rom files only and figured that the menu/control program was MMSG's CopyCart. I was more concerned that potential buyers would think that they could copy to and then run the Super Games from the Compact Flash or other IDE device when in fact they won't work unless someone patches each one individually. I recall the confusion that a lot of potential purchasers of the Orphanware Hard Drives and then later M.I. Hard Drives had back in the day and hopefully some of this confusion can be avoided for current potential purchasers.

While the largest percentage of E.O.S. programs used SmartBasic v1.0, which means all one has to do is copy the program file(s) to the SmartBASIC partition to use them, there will be numerous situations where the HELLO (Turnkey) program will have to be renamed properly and even more were the program may have to be edited if it ever reloads this HELLO program. This is a very simple process for us old-timers, but for someone new to the ADAM, there will be a considerable learning curve that they need to be made aware of. Also, there were numerous SB v1.0 programs that were supplied with a modified version of SB v1.0 with the mods being made directly to the machine language BASICPGM file so the user will need to know or have instructions on how to copy this BASICPGM file to the IDE device as well as copy the Block #00 boot block to a file.

Then, of course, there is the issue of SmartBASIC v2.0 not being compatible seeing as it loads it's own revised E.O.S., before loading SB v2.0, that would overwrite the driver program written by Tony Morehen. So, any SB v2.0 programs like Strategic Software's Sub Raider will not work. Thankfully there weren't that many SB v2.0 programs developed and most were just Public Domain and not commercial quality releases.

Thanks for the update re. the other Coleco released application programs. I couldn't recall how many were actually configured already and supplied on partition 0. As I mentioned, too many years have passed, but relearning all this is always a big part of the fun!

One thing that I didn't see in your description was the mention of any T-DOS partitions?

I hope that I am not scaring away any potential purchasers, but hopefully by making this information available, the purchasers will be better informed of the capabilities and incompatibilities of this setup. At the price that you are selling the Interface and Compact Flash package, it still is a steal in my mind compared to spending hundreds of dollars BITD on the OBS Mini-Winnie HD or one of the many M.I. Hard Drive offerings.

IN RESPECT TO SOME QUESTIONS ON THE IDE CARD, I WILL TRY TO FURTHER EXPLAIN THE SETUP.

Question..............."I'm not really in to "making it on my own" if it is at all complicated <grin>...as such, I probably can't afford this thing until after the first of the year...do you anticipate them still being available then or even later, maybe 2013 or 2014?

Question...............I'm still confused, I'm afraid...I've read your other messages and it sounds like you still need the IDE interface and power supply even if you only want to use the compact flash card....so if that's the case what can I do with just the interface card and software?

    ***************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

OK, I will try to explain further. The ide interface card purchased by itself will come with software to make your own “hard drive” system.

    You would need to supply:

    1. an ide device
    which would be:

    a. physical hard drive and ide cable to connect to the interface card

    b. compact flash card with an ide adapter w/ power and ide cable to connect to the interface card

    2. a means of powering the hard drive or compact flash card – both need external power to run

Then you need to go thru a precise process of formatting your ide device, initializing both the EOS
partitions and TDOS partitions, then copying files from the supplied disks which contain the appropriate boot files for Coleco programs. Once all this is done, hopefully you have not missed a step or hooked something up wrong; and you have a 20, 40, or 60 mb FAST storage media. THEN you can copy the CV games, Coleco programs and Tdos onto the ide storage media.

The entire reason behind offering the parts package is:

    1. to save you from about an hour’s worth of work

    2. to make the addition of an ide storage device a simple plug and play unit

    3. not use incorrect parts and possibly “let the smoke” out of your new card (ruin it)

Mark Gordon of Micro Innovations initially only sold his “hard drive” system’s as a complete unit for the reason's above - in order to protect the hardware and to make it easy for the user to set up the system and operate it.

    ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The parts package for $25 is an "at cost" package we are providing to make a "plug and play" package for the user; plus we are preloading it with most ColecoVision games and basic Coleco progams. We use a compact flash card because it has no moving parts to wear out like a used hard drive unit. IF a user wants to get his own pieces to make a system, so be it, but you won’t save any money and you will have the hassle making the system work. Possibly we should sell only a complete setup only.......... but then some would want only the interface card........

THE IDE CARDS AND PACKAGE WILL BE AVAILABLE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE..........AND THAT IS LIKE......20 YEARS or so. By offering this package, we are keeping them at cost to further the use of the ADAM computer and CV games. We want to make available to as many users as possible the chance to run a FAST storage system on the ADAM. There will be other Coleco hardware additions/replacements in the future also.
