The wifi modem is on the right of the Adam. I used a green LED for power status and a red LED for modem activity to match the MI hard drive on the left of the Adam.

The tape, and glue are used to insulate the electronics from the metal enclosure; just in case something gets bumped.

My question also, does it work.....................I have to believe it does though.  CONGRATS!!  Only problem case looks a little big.....maybe..... Just got done here making a data drive from Eric P plans, docs and programming.  Gave it zero chance with my skills at soldering.............BUT, it works!  Miracle!

I assure you that it ISN'T vaporware!  Derek Else (the original programmer) recently did some more demo updates (which DON'T seem to work within BlueMSX, by the way), but DO work within ColEm, and some other ColecoVision emulators.  He and I are looking into further programming developments to help bring this much-needed game into fruition.  Good quality video games DO take time to produce.  Thank You!

You are correct RT12, I have an updated version from Derek (not for release) and it is rather good.  Can always use some polishing like most things.  KEEP GAMING!!!

I have everything working. There is a wire that connects to the 'Access 'light on the front panel but I can't find anything on the harddrive that it connects to. I assume this was for a floppy drive since the case and PCB seem to have room for those components

Somewhere, somehow, there is usually a set of pins for a hd light.  The trick i to find it.  When used for an MI disk drive, is used as a power on light.

it seems that the IDE does not work with atapi Zip drives.    i assume that the original Zip 100 was not an atapi and as such does work .   I tried all combinations of jumper settings but no luck.

I guess that the larger Zip drives use the same ATA Packet interface as CD roms

BINGO!!!  The drive must be labeled as a Zip IDE in the id label; ATAPI drives will not work.  These are hard to find and are the only ones that will work.  If I recall, the 100 version is the only one that will work.  The small Sparq drives work the same way as the Zip.  Other than a cool adaptation, the mainline IDE hd or the CF versions are easier and more reliable to use.

  5. The IDE card can certainly be used with a physical IDE hard drive. It is slower than the compact flash version and susceptible to failure at a higher rate than than compact flash cards which are basically memory chips.  I have  an ADAM's set up that way as well as with a zip drive and one with a sparq drive (just for fun).  It takes a special set of disks to format and set up the physical drives on a physical spinning IDE drive.

I have had a few disks work perfectly after I make them, then suddenly have missing blocks when I go to use themn a few days later.   This doesn't happen to all the disk.

Better safe than sorry.  On another note, I have left booting ddp's in for years (pop open after booting to not heat the ddd) and they boot up every time when the ADAM is turned on.  Maybe it could be described as a crap shoot.

The disk does read fine. It just wonnt format a blannk disk. I keep getting a write protection error. Is there a sensor that see the notch on the disk?

YES, there are 2 sensors along the left side of the drive mech; if memory serves.  They are a light and sensor, if the light is bad, the sensor won't see it and says the disk is write protected.  The 2nd sensor is disk IN I "think"

I have always kept both plugged in but I jusst recently picked up the plastic tray that holds the two together and found that it has a tab that covers the colecovision power cord port.

And there is your answer.  Probably made no difference by leaving both plugged in, as the voltages all go the same place; but the idea of the module 3 ADAM add-on was that the stuff out of the box was a complete ADAM if you added your own CV unit to the back of the ADAM module.

Hello Everyone, I recently shared my Atari 7800 machine over in the 7800 forum and I wanted to show everyone my ColecoVision Arcade Machine. I am using an “Ultimate ColecoVision Flashback” which is perfect for this project. I plan to buy a Super CV from Edladdin and add some custom side art:

I keep seeing this and I KNOW it has to be some ripoff but for my education can someone fill in the blanks.

A ripoff I agree too.  This has to be a custom label made to look original and a price out of whack; but hey a person has to try, right?

I tried searching for this topic, but I couldn’t find it. If it already exists, sorry about that! Please let me know the link, then, as I’ve had trouble finding results that were helpful to me.

I’m new to the Adam, and I took a chance on a cheap auction that has no printer. I’ve seen vague references to other options, but I couldn’t find many details. For new folks and non-technical folks, can we have a list of all the known alternatives for power supplies other than the giant printer that wipes tapes when it’s turned on? I’ve heard it’s possible to make one, but how does a newbie go about doing that? Detailed info on any alternatives would be great!

I can update this top post with all the different suggestions so it’s easy for new folks to find.

    Thanks for your help, everyone!

A good question for sure.  In your case the best solution would be to use an old ibm desktop power supply that will provide you with +12v -12v +5v and -5v  the rub is finding the -5v to use and no getting at AT power supply that needs a specified load for it to kick in.  Attached is a jpg of the power needed.  For others (you included), the power supply can be removed from the ADAM printer and used natively.  BUT, that takes an ADAM printer to steal it from.

Are people still using Coleco ADAM disk drives or has everyone switched to some sort of SD card type thing-a-ma-jig?  Reason I ask is I have 4 for sure (maybe five) Disk Drives I'm going to need to get rid of and just trying to get an idea of use/value?  I know all 4 work, I have Coleco power supplies for 2, and I know the more readily available Atari disk drive power supplies are a substitute for the other 2.  All 4 have the drive cable, and I know I have the box/packaging/manual for either 1 of these 4, or that box, has a 5th drive inside (can't remember) so 1 is complete in box.  I saw it the other night, but can't find it right this second.

What about ADAM mini power supplies (printer replacement)?  I have the last mini power supply that I made for myself that I'll need to get rid of too after I completely test all of my ADAM hardware/software and the likes.  I remember people use to really want one of these.  Just trying to get some sort of idea of value of these items.  Thanks in advance for any thoughts/input.

Disk drives are worth $250 and up, especially working; and are very sought after.  Power supply in the $50-75 range maybe.
