  2. Hi thanks for the help, where are my manners these days! I found your links pretty useful, you were right about the .stx files also, so I will avoid them.

    SainT v2.13

Hi I just got this emulator program for Atari ST on my pc and just curious as to how to proceed with it. Looked up info but I am confused. Don't have any experience with emulators. How can I play a game (using floppy drive)? I read the online instructions and it says: "As many emulators, the easyest way to run theses disks if to generate a file, wich is exactly the binary image of the disk. You can find many of these disk image on the internet now, so if you're a newbie don't spent time to convert your own floppys ! SainT supports four image disk format (.ST, .MSA, .DIM and .FDI) but almost all image disk you can grab on the world wide web are ST or MSA files. (NOTE: SainT can read these format inside ZIP archives)." So where is a good place to find these files? Anyone reccomend a good website? What are the basic steps to getting a game to work on this emulator? Your help is appreciated, my atari computer wasn't working properly so I am trying other means...
  4. no, they all output composite video as standard, the PS2 can output RGB, but you need to change the settings in the options menu, and you would need a different lead. I may have a spare RF lead in my boxOshite somewhere, if you are in the UK I could send it to you, at least then you will be able to know if the ST is working or not. Maybe you could give the TV's make and modle numbers,? Oh, that makes sense (if that's the reason why it's not working). It is very kind of you but I just ordered one from Ebay for a couple of £'s. I think the problem with this process has been my lack of knowledge about tv's and connections. My tv is: Goodmans 206NS 20 inch colour television reciever with text and Nicam stereo. Viking24
  5. Don't really know if it capable of rgb, if I can play dvd's/ playstation 2/gamecube does that mean it is capable of rgb? No joy on my parents tv at all. I checked and I am sure it is also PAL because it says 50hz. :-(
  6. Hey sorry that was badly worded. I meant it looks like that on the selected av regardless of what 'channel' I put on whilst on av (clutching at illogical straws). I know that my av's work because I use them both all of the time for other things. Tried it on both av's and got same result. I will try it on another tv although the other tv is LCD so I don't know if the scart will work at all on that tv. Bit despondant because there continues to be 80 st games in my room which I can't play yet )-:
  7. I got the scart lead today and tried and it works, however it looks like this (on every channel and every AV). a/what does this mean? b/what can I do to fix it? It is not clear on the pic but it is a monochrome image which shows the desktop but it is obviously not showing up properly. I am determined to make this thing work.
  8. hmmm.... found the scart lead on ebay which has been refferred to and I think it will be a better idea that buying a new atari rf cable. Apparently the picture is better. I was over complicating things and failed to realise thst it was my rf cable which wasn't working...sigh I think the correct phrase is 'noob'.
  9. Ok makes a bit more sense now. My atari is working fine (the lights are on and it is reading the floppy drive). I think my rf lead is not working properly the sticky out metal bit is bent at the end and maybe not making a connection with tv/also maybe a bit coroded. Something is wrong with it anyway so I will have to find another one. I will check out the gadget you suggested. Thanks for the help. Viking24
  10. Hi I posted on here a week ago about how to connect my Atari 520 STFM to my tv. Guitarman has been brilliant and he is trying to help me with how to connect to a PAL tv, however, this is an awkward job for someone who is across the pond. I wondered if anybody from the UK could point me to a listing of an appropriate connector on ebay.co.uk. Th F connector which is universally recommended has a hexagonal end which does not fit into my tv. My coax connection on my tv is round like this: If you are from the UK, how did you connect your old Atari system to your tv? I would really appreciate your help because I am really stuck and all advice points to an F connector which doesn't work for me. Cheers Viking24
  11. I am currently playing Final Fantasy 1 and 2 and I agree that it's excellent. Lord of the Rings the Third Age- is also a good turn based strategy game, you can play a good character or an evil character. Pokemon Emerald is apparantly the best Pokemon game for the gba. I can agree with this. Payback is a great game and the graphics look better than the GTA for GBA. It is better in my opinion because you get experience points for everything you do so it doesn't matter if you fail a few missions, you can still complete the levels. Chronicles of Narnia is wonderful, it is very cute and you heal yourself using tea and toast. It could have been a bit longer though but look out for Mini Aslan! That is my list of best games, some rpg's some not. All are awesome.
  12. When I was about 9/10 I used to watch my brother playing Quake on our Windows 95 computer and it scared the hell out of me. I used to play it in secret (my parents would not have approved) and used to hesitate when walking around the corners in case a scrag was there. Also I hated that huge white snowman thing which threw lightening at you. It is still pretty creepy now when I play it due to the NIN sound effects. I wouldn't play it with the lights out. Also, the werewolves were frightening. I am currently playing Resident Evil 4 on the Ps2 and finding it fun rather than scary.
  13. I understand why the SP is not the 'comfiest', however, if you compare the size of the DS to the SP, the Sp is a lot more portable. Although it does make your hand cramp up after a while. The left and right buttons are strange at first though in a lot of games they are used for the inventory or storage of maps etc, so they are not usually completely vital to the ordinary gameplay. I think the original gameboy advance looks a bit more comfortable but it is also bigger and you would have to shell out x amount on batteries. Actually, I have always wanted to try the gamecube, but I have limited space at the moment sigh... My Atari 520stfm came with an 'archer' joystick and I guess it will be a bit strange, I've never played with a joystick before. Recieving my coax adaptor at the end of the week. P.S. Play Quake on Sega Saturn, controls are easy, comfortable, no hand cramps, simple fighting controls.
  14. Hi I'm new here and wondering what people think is the most comfortable/easiest controller to use. From my limited experience (never used an Xbox so don't know what that's like) the most comfy and easy to use controller is: Sega Saturn. It's shape is fantastic and doesn't make your hand cramp up. It's very solid and durable, the controls are easy to figure out. I like it a lot more than the Ps2 controller. Also: Award for best portable game player: Gameboy Advance Sp. Why? Because it's charged by mains so reduced cost. It is small enough to fit into a standard camera case (along with a few cartridges). Most games are cheap compared to the DS. It has backwards compatability for old gameboy games. It has the best Pokemon and Final Fantasy games. Not as much screen area as the DS but the SP is truly portable. Ok so, Best controller and why, Best portable game player and why?
  15. I'm lucky enough to have a pc which still has a floppy drive (-: I don't wanna try that program where the computer speaks your words though, because I youtubed it and the voice is creepy, makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
