  1. Ahhh the the black part is soldered in.....that would explain why it doesnt budge then eh? RexDart - If only that added to the skill lol, I get the basic idea of how to do it, but its one of those things that if youve never tried, you wont just pick it up. As for the cleaning, alcohol on an old game is actually....a pretty good idea, and so simple I cant believe I didnt think of that lol. Thanks for the help, and thanks for the service manual. I found a video on Youtube that was made in 82 I think, its a 9 part series on repairing the 2600, so between the 2 Im sure Ill figure things out and get this puppy working. I REALLY want to get it working, to not only add to my console collection, but also, I played on it when Im was a wee lad, so its got that whole old memories thing going on.
  2. Ok well Ive seen some pictures showing what the chips are and all that fun jazz, an lucky for me, mine are not soldered in, so count myself lucky there, though someday Im going to have to figure out the art of Soldering lol. Ok quick question and it might be a silly one, but how exactly do I get the black cover off where the actual cartridge slides onto? Im wanting to clean everything inside there, but I cant figure out how to take it off, and nothing I have fits inside because its so damn small. Ill get a picture of what Im talking about here in a moment. Ideas?
  3. TIA Chips? Like I said Im a total noob on reparing these things. Is there some kind of manual o a good step by step on repairing them? Ive done the Google thing for probably 2 solid hours and all I ever find is either how to open the console up (wow thats hard /sarcasm) Or guides on cleaning the games themselves. So any links to good repair step by steps or similar? Specially what the parts are would be helpful
  4. I was recently given an Atari 2600, its the "darth vader" style. So I cleaned it up, and when testing, so far the best I can get, is a solid grey screen. Its started off just going solid black, so when I tried a different game it changed to solid grey. I dont hear anything from the tv, just solid color. Any ideas? Ive repaired many NES so Im not a complete noob to getting game systems working, but I know next to nothing on Atari.
