  1.  The XEGS joined the RGB fray today...

How can I do it on mine?

@Simius still has some SOPHIA boards for sale if you PM him. The GTIA on the XEGS isn’t socketed though so there’s a fair amount of desoldering to do. I also used an 8-pin mini-DIN as opposed to the DE9 connector that the SOPHIA board comes with since it’s easier to mount.

  2. Added a ton of Famicom stuff for grabs!

  3. Added some Neo Geo things to my FS thread! Hoping to use the proceeds to get a NeoSD...

  4. Ahh dontcha just love it when you open up a console and find a bug's nest inside

I do not. I bought an NES back in 2005-ish, and it wasn't working so I opened it up and found what looked like a roach nest. I tossed the whole thing in the trash, wasn't even going to try to deal with it. *shivers*

  5. Anyone interested in a Yamaha CS01 analog synth? Going to be selling mine since I've got too many synths these days haha

Haha,  Yeah.  I assume that's what he meant.  All the other ones on eBay are too expensive too, considering they're still for sale (as far as I know)...

We'll see. I ended up ordering one yesterday from RetroUSB.

Looks like a nice machine.  I'd been waiting and slowly saving, biding my time...And if Analogue hadn't come through, I might have gone with the AVS.  The NT Mini is kind of a dream machine for me, so I have something to look forward to in these trying times ;)

  6. Are there any Intellivision flash carts still being sold? Figured I should invest in one soon...

    1. RockyRaccoon

      RockyRaccoon

I was wondering that too, myself. ?. The only major one I can find online was sold out as of Jan 2019 but apparently was gonna have another run in the summer... except that period has more or less passed since we're almost into fall. Gonna be watching that thou.

LTO Flash is supposedly releasing a limited run this month. 25 or so. After that who knows?

  7. Dear Analogue:

Stop wasting your time posting those damn GIFs on your social media accounts and provide some product updates for once

And every time you guys post a Game Gear or SG-1000 GIF I will always be ready with that GIF of Judge Judy tapping her watch

They're practically begging you to jailbreak it and put the ROMs on an SD card with those GG and SG-1000 GIFs, aren't they?

  8. Did I just do something potentially stupid and buy an early 80s Trinitron off eBay? Yes. Yes I did.

Buying a PVM off of eBay was easily the scariest purchase I ever made, both because of the price, and my perception of the fragility of the unit. Everything went ok, tho'.

Im so in love with the look of this TV that I’m actually going to restore the RF output on my 5200, which I think will pair really well with this

  9. Don't buy SCART cables from k.antoniuk2012 on eBay! They're unshielded, filled with hot glue on both ends and have poor soldering!

  10. Don’t think I’ve ever seen this 65XE variation before: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F264657194392

I’m wondering if Atari had some sort of deal to provide these to eye care specialists at one point. I’m pretty sure it’s just a bone stock 65XE with a different label but it’s still an interesting variation nonetheless.

    3. ApolloBoy

      ApolloBoy

@doctorclu Yours truly just bought it! I couldn’t find anything about this variation at all so I’ll make a thread in the 8-bit forum once it arrives.

  11. Dug my 800 out of storage at my parents' place and I really missed having it around, love the late 70s aesthetic of it.

It truly is a beautiful machine. My favorite of the entire 8-bit line.

Also if the datecode on the serial number label is anything to go by, my 800 is now 37 years old as of today (built the 7th week of 1983!)

  12. Ever look at a power supply board and immediately think "yeah not even plugging that in"? That's me rn

    1. ApolloBoy

      ApolloBoy

Just got an untested 1040STF today and saw that something exploded in the PSU... and was then repaired... badly

  13. Ever since I got a SIO2PC 11 years ago, I always said that I never looked back after ditching my Atari 8-bit disk drives.

    Tonight I'm eating crow.

I never ditched them either, but I rarely use disks these days. Too slow and unreliable. Mainly I used my drives to dump disks to disk images.

That said, the occasional disk game on the Indus is fun. Particularly ones that require disk swapping.

    3. Gunstar

      Gunstar

What you say is true, and I also use them for dumps as well, and with 2 happy 1050's and 2 Indus GT's I can do 4 at a time in syncromesh and ultra speed modes. But especially multi-disk games is what I use them for. If it's a single disk game I generally load an .xex from an SIO or cart device. I do still have some original floppies for some many of the .xex's though, just to use the disk drives a bit more once in a while; because I'm a hardware guy and I get as much joy out of just putting hardware to use as I do the software it loads, (and I don't mind the load times, but I do at least upgrade for fastest tape & floppy drives) And yes, half my hardware hobby time is spent on drive up-keep, but I enjoy it all the same. But I love playing my Atari multi-disk RPG's and Synapse Electronic Novels and Omnitrend's Universe on multiple floppies.

    4. Gunstar

      Gunstar

But sooner or later the floppies (and part for the drives disappear) will die and new sources are already scarce, so one day I probably will be converting some floppy drives into more modern equivalents, but keeping the form-factor.

  14. Experienced my first RIFA capacitor failure with my IIGS tonight. God these things reek!

  15. Finished fixing up the smashed 810 drive I got on eBay last week and it's looking pretty damn good, all things considered. Check out the replies for before and after pics...

    1. ApolloBoy

      ApolloBoy

Here's how it looked when I received it. One entire corner on the top half was smashed and the corner on the rear left also had a huge hairline crack. Both screw bosses on the left side were also broken off from the impact and the bottom half on the right front corner also took a hit.

      ApolloBoy

And the after! I was able to reconstruct the smashed corner as best as I could with super glue, and also repaired the hairline crack to prevent the rear top half from coming apart. The case also got a good cleaning beforehand, and then after the repairs were done, I slathered the case with cream peroxide developer and placed it in my UV box for whitening. Less than a day later, the case came out an acceptable shade and I reassembled the drive.

Oh and the best part? Despite all the damage and everything this drive has been through, it still worked perfectly fine! I was able to play several games for a few hours with the drive powered on the entire time and it worked like a champ.

  16. For anyone who's ordered from Best recently, how long has it usually taken for Brad to respond? I sent him an email for some parts I need over a week ago and he hasn't responded yet...

I usually call.  Just ordered something last week and had no problem.  Maybe he's on vacation?  Just make sure you put a reference to Atari in the title line so it doesn't go to his spam filter.

    3. doubledown

      doubledown

I sent e-mail request a couple weeks back, I got a response within 1 day (around the holidays too), I responded back and sent payment, and I had my items a few days later.  Did you follow their e-mailing instructions with putting specific Atari item/part number info in the subject line of the e-mail so it gets read?

    4. ApolloBoy

      ApolloBoy

That's weird, I made sure to mention Atari in the subject line and put down the part numbers of what I wanted. I've ordered from Brad before a few times and he was always prompt so I'm wondering if maybe he went on vacation or something.

  17. Gave in and bought a Neo Geo Pocket Color off eBay tonight, I sold my original one years ago and I've been kicking myself ever since. Next up will be a backlit LCD kit and @SainT's flash cart...

@Kobra KaiSNK vs Capcom was one of my favorites on the NGPC. I also loved Puzzle Bobble as it had great controls. Pac-Man is a very good port. Then there's Neo Turf Masters. GREAT golf game!

I Love the game Dark Arms: Beast Buster 1999.  It struck me as an NES type game but with SNES or Genesis graphics and was just a lot of fun to me.  I played it a ton until a GF wrote over my save with hers...D'Oh!

  18. Got a bunch of sealed 2600 and 5200 games today and it's interesting to see all the quality differences between the Atari Inc. and Atari Corp. releases. Even the shrinkwrap is higher quality on the Atari Inc. stuff!

Pretty certain 5200 games weren't shrinkwrapped at the factory either.

Interesting, the games I got were pretty much straight out of the shipping boxes, at least the 2600 stuff I got was.

      masschamber

Atari Corp definitely were shrink wrapped

  19. Got a PicoPSU installed in my 1040STF, complete success!

  20. Got a spare ColecoVision and spare SNES, all cleaned up and working great, anyone interested?

  21. Got a Wico joystick for the NES and opened it up to find the rubber grommet had completely dry rotted. Time to find out if the arcade stick grommets fit...

  22. Got my 800XL's SOPHIA board transplanted into my new 1200XL today...

  23. Got my first hyper elliptical stylus for my turntable today and I'm amazed that I didn't bother with getting one sooner. Added lots of detail and it's greatly reduced inner groove distortion on some of my more questionably mastered records.

@Keatah Records were still big in the 90s and and early 2000s (and still are) thanks to the electronic music scene, so much so that it kept the medium alive.
