  1. Ferg and I pitted the Intellivision against the Atari 2600 tonight in a game of Reversi/Othello, using Google Hangouts. Check out the 8-bit action!
  2. To be very clear - we welcome all this feedback! I don't want it to seem like whenever one of us replies to these ideas that we are dismissing them. We have looked into the chapter-ing of the show. It's doable, for sure, assuming Nurmix can learn about the tools to use, etc. But I believe that audio files with chapter breaks cannot be plain .mp3 files. So then you're looking at restricting the types of players that can be used. I suppose putting out more than one version would also be possible - one .mp3 for wide appeal, another with chapter breaks for those with players who can handle that. But it really comes down to Nurmix's time as he does all the audio engineering on this podcast.
  3. Yeah, I know it's a real thing. Some people will just have a problem with a long podcast. But I think the question isn't really one of long or short, but of the amount of work required to put out the amount of content we're putting out. We want to do the kind of show we're doing - lots of talk about the games, long-form interviews, etc. We *could* carve up a given month's content into shorter shows, but it would be (I'm guessing here) a lot more work. At some point, there would be the risk that it just wouldn't seem worth it. So I think it ends up being a choice between long-ish shows and no shows at all. I can definitely tell you I can't put out a long show every week!! We record late at night, and it takes me a couple of days to recover! So we're doing the kind of show we want to do and that we *can* do given life's constraints on time, etc. That might change in the future, who knows? But we're doing what we can now. Personally, I like weekly podcasts as well. it's simpler to feel more "connected" with the hosts -- at least that's my impression. But I really like RGR too. So the length isn't a major problem for me. I hope that the Intellivision community likes what we're doing and can put up with the length issue, when it is an issue.
  4. I've seriously had friends at work "kindly suggesting" that we consider the length of the show. We don't want to drive our listeners away!
  5. Sorry about that Nurmix. I finally fixed that tonight.
  6. Heh, you've discovered the secret to our once-a-month idea! It makes the material stretch out much longer than if we did it weekly!! It'll last for years and years and years!! AH HA HA HA HA!!! (*end villainous laughter*)
  7. We discussed having a booth during our pre-show talk the other night. I think we more or less decided that we will indeed have a booth. I'm sure we'll make a more official announcement in April's show. I'm trying VERY HARD to arrange things so that I can make it to CGE this year.
  8. HA! That's a crazy variant. Basically, the monsters are slowed down to a ridiculous degree and the energizer timer is set to very long (maybe endless?). Assuming I'm right about the changes, it seems like this might be a version where it's easy to see if there are any bugs for clearing hundreds of boards in the original game.
  9. I don't think we're trying to branch out and include non-Intellivision related material -- we aren't disallowing non-Inty talk, but I have no plans to make this podcast more general than it is. We wanted to interview someone in the UK to get a different perspective on the Inty, but we're also interested in talk about the early 1980s and the gaming scene at the time. Personally, I had no idea that Hawken is a controversial figure (or at least has had controversy surrounding him). So I found out all about that afterwards. Agreed about Loughry. I really enjoyed listening to that interview. I try to say it often, because I really mean it, but I really appreciate you guys listening! So thanks for downloading/listening and thanks for the feedback!
  10. Nurmix set everything up in terms of the storage, feeds, etc., at libsyn, so he pays the bills! I've been sending him a little month each month to help with the costs. We have talked only briefly about possibly putting a donation button on the website. Nurmix could speak more towards any actual need of help.
  11. Nurmix slipped an extra episode into the podcast RSS feed that was essentially just the intro and outro songs without sound effects or other stuff overlaid. It's the fourth episode in the feed. If you're wanting something else, you'll have to keep bugging Nurmix...
  12. Yeah, that stuff about the Intellivoice was pretty crazy sounding. I'm very glad you're enjoying the show!
  13. Yep, I'm looking for one also. That and Checkers are the last to get me to a complete set of Sears games.
  14. Wow. I'm really impressed with what this compiler is enabling people to do. Any reservation I expressed in Intellivisionaries episode 6 is hereby retracted! I've seen Basic projects in the past that were lack-luster, so I didn't give this project much thought or investigation when it came out. But now that I have looked at it a bit it is truly impressive. Well done!
  15. I never found those adapters to be very satisfying. The problem with adapting a joystick onto the inty disc is that it will never have much travel when you push in one of the directions. It can only tilt as far as the disc moves underneath. I have a couple of controllers where I've installed sticklers - joysticks pieces that actually replace the little disc in the controller. They don't feel right as a joystick either. I'm sorry you don't like the disc - Nurmix will lump you in with me!! (for those who haven't heard Nurmix slandering me on the podcast, I actually like the disc controller just fine for a lot of games...)
  16. We do our traditional “deep dive” game review; this time it’s The Dreadnaught Factor from Activision. We interview the programmer / designer of the game, Tom Loughry. We also interview Kieren Hawken (aka “The Laird”) from Retro Video Gamer in the UK. And this month we have a special guest host, Kevin Savetz – author of “The Terrible Nerd”, one of the hosts of Antic: The Atari 8-bit Podcast, and an Intellivision collector. And all the feedback, news and fun you’ve come to expect from our show is here too. http://www.intellivisionaries.com
  17. The sylvania is the last one I'm wanting to get for my collection. I don't bother with the foreign language variants, carts or consoles. So my list for "complete" is just Intellivision Intellivision 2 INTV III INTV Super Pro System Tandyvision GTE/Sylvania Sears Super Video Arcade I'm just missing the Sylvania at this point in that list. There's one on ebay right now but it is priced too high. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MATTEL-SYLVANIA-GTE-INTELLIVISION-VIDEO-GAME-SYSTEM-30-GAMES-/151234065293?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item233640b38d
  18. I remember beating Space Battle on its hardest level. I had memorized all the movements of the enemy ships. I'm pretty sure I beat the hardest level on D&D cloudy mountain also.
  19. I'm kinda the reverse. Almost all of my gaming history on the Intellivision is the oldies. I need pushing to play some of the later titles. One great thing about doing the podcast is it does force me to try games I might not.
  20. It's a pretty simple affair to connect the RF output on an Inty with a little adapter to the coax cable input on a modern TV. I use one of these http://www.amazon.com/Bluecell-Pack-Male-Plug-Adapters/dp/B005C2KA88/ref=pd_sim_e_5 paired with one of these http://www.amazon.com/Gino-Female-Coaxial-Adapter-Connector/dp/B0076UHKVY/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1390946161&sr=1-5&keywords=rf+to+rca with an in-line filter thing I found at Radio Shack (that I can't find a link for now for some reason). As for what to do with extra systems and games, there are definitely people here who will take them off your hands. I'd be glad to send you shipping money to save that kind of stuff from the trash heap. I'm sure others would also.
  21. I noticed that as well. I wondered how the Quest screen(s) I've seen could have morphed into Tower of Doom. I chalked it up to not really understanding the way Mattel's development efforts were arranged. I've always understood it like you mention there: Tower of Mystery -> Tower of Doom. Maybe Keith got mixed up. He tends to talk pretty fast when he's on about Intellivision stuff!
  22. We take a “deep dive” into the Intellivoice game “Bomb Squad”, talk Intellivision with video game legend Tommy Tallarico, interview Blue Sky Ranger Keith Robinson of Intellivision Productions, and Mattel Electronics alum Joey Silvian. Plus we have our usual news and listener feedback segments, and a lot more ‘explosive’ Intellivision fun! We also rolled out a new website design this month! http://www.intellivisionaries.com
  23. Holy cow, I daresay you'll get some interest...
