Is there a scan of Your Friend, the Exec available somewhere?
-
I'm definitely a hybrid gamer/collector. I don't really care to chase variants very much, and my main goal in collecting is to have legitimate ownership of all the games I want to play, rather than just downloading the ROMs (although Intellivision is one system where you can legitimately purchase most ROMs). That said, I'm only concerned about that legitimacy for a couple of systems (Intellivision and older DOS games mainly). I haven't bothered to collect physical games for other systems even though I've gotten their ROMs. But I don't play those others very often, so I don't consider that level of collecting worth it.

I'm definitely Intellivision over Atari. As for Star Wars/Star Trek, historically I've been more for Star Trek but lately I've found I lack interest in both. I guess I'm more of a Firefly guy.

What do you do with extra commons?
Rick Reynolds replied to Rick Reynolds's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Yeah, like I say I hated doing it. This was years ago - maybe 2003 (?). I was kinda collecting on my own and wasn't part of any real community like what is here on AA. I was probably on the intvprog list as that was the only place I knew of at the time to get any INTV info. Ah well. I'm strongly thinking of getting back into collecting so I can have a set of the Sears variants. I think I only have 1 of those at this point and the box art is really kinda cool. Back in the day I never wanted the Sears versions because they felt kinda like "generic" or "low-rent" versions of the games - at least that was my 12 or 13 year old brain's version of reality. Now my Sears unit is the one I take out most when I'm playing on real hardware! -
A new intellivision controller possibility?
Rick Reynolds replied to killersquirel's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Thanks for that write-up. I knew the EXEC was the cause of the sluggishness in older games, but I didn't know about the 3x issues. That explains a lot. -
I can't imagine that I'm the only one who ended up with a lot of extra common carts while completing my collection. I felt bad about it, but some years ago I ended up throwing out something like 100 common carts because it just wasn't worth the effort of listing and trying to sell them on ebay. So what's the "right" thing to do? Is there anyone in the homebrew community that needs shells to make new carts? Is anyone collecting a stash of cart shells that would want our cast-offs?

HSC Season #3 - Game #6 Popeye
Rick Reynolds replied to cparsley's topic in Intellivision High Score Club
Holy cow! I've never really played this game very much, and I doubt it'll become one of my favorites. The controls are pretty terrible! My score: 26,700 -
I honestly think they'll have trouble finding my proxy - unless they happen to check my machine itself for running ssh sessions that also are tunneling. I'm tunneling the content over port 443 which they pretty much have to leave open for https connections. My tunnel should look just like other https traffic on the network.

A new intellivision controller possibility?
Rick Reynolds replied to killersquirel's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I definitely prefer the original controllers for the games that I grew up playing. I got used to experiencing the game that way. I think the sports games in particular work very well with it. But to your question, yes I think most of the new homebrew games are better with a joystick. By those I mean mainly D1K/D2K, Space Patrol, and Carol. -
I do - and I also have to use an ssh-tunnel proxy.

A new intellivision controller possibility?
Rick Reynolds replied to killersquirel's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
This is close to something I've been wondering about. I'd like to see a product that would interface generic switches (i.e. arcade machine controls) to Intellivision controller inputs (either the straight-line 9 pins or the D-9 pin input on the later models). -
Thanks so much for pointing me towards the 2600-dapter. That looks to be what I'm looking for.

I'm interested in a Stelladaptor. I'm guessing AA isn't selling them anymore(??). PM me if you've got one you want to get rid of. Thanks!

Yeah! I like this plan! I'm excited to be a part of it! </ghostbusters mode>

That's fine, and I understand. But some people are decently serious about collecting (more serious than I am!) and I'd hate for someone to feel slighted when seeing my listing at Platinum with repro boxes - assuming Platinum won't allow such.
-
I'm going to be hated... Years ago, I saw someone selling two (!) sealed copies of the baggied versions on ebay with a buy-it-now price of $300. (!!) I knew what I was seeing and pulled the trigger quickly. I then turned around and sold one of them on ebay for $300, making my total cost for my Spiker: free.
-
That means the club will only have a memebership of 4. cmart, rev alex and rick. I didn't see this little comment until today, but I want to be sure I'm up-front about stuff. My box for Spiker is a reproduction. I have what I believe to be one of the sealed baggie releases. I grabbed the repro-box to make it simpler to stash on my shelf! Obviously, I'm in favor of treating "complete in baggie" as "complete in box" for games that were sold that way. I'm not on the hunt for an original boxed Spiker - I consider what I have to be authentic enough. Actually, given that the group has more rigorously defined things for the 125 club, I think I need to be demoted to Gold member instead of Platinum. My collection is actually lacking 3 boxes: Spiker, Learning Fun II, and Congo Bongo are all repros. When I posted my "candidacy" for the 125 club, I believe the group was still considering CIB + loose carts to be qualifying as "in the club" and the different levels were added a bit later to provide for these distinctions. If you read my posting about my collection, you'll see that I admit to my three repro boxes. I wouldn't want people to think I'm trying to sneak in at an unwarranted level or anything. On the other hand, if repro boxes count as "boxed"... But I'm assuming the boxed requirement is only being relaxed on games that were bought as baggied versions. I can't make that claim for my Congo Bongo or Learning Fun II.

Yeah, that's an interesting, sad story: http://www.intellivisionlives.com/bluesky/hardware/intelli3_tech.html If there are other sources of info about that, please post!

jzIntv emulator joystick support
Rick Reynolds replied to intvdave's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I use jzintv a good bit - I'll take a stab at configuring this setup as well. Though I might not get to really be able to play with it until later in the week. -
I mean a .ROM file. I wasn't aware that the 8K version was on Intellivision Lives, I thought that one was the original non-collapsing-Lupin version. But in any case, I had read about that version of the game and definitely wanted to play it. It was included in David Harley's CC3 ROM pack.
-
Yeah, that's where I'm kind of collector-lite. A large motivation for my collecting was to have decent instruction booklets and overlays in order to play the games. Having a complete collection was sort of a side-effect for me. Once I can play the game more or less like it was intended, I usually don't bother trying to get lots of variants - unless they are gameplay variants. I was very excited to get the 8K Lock-n-chase rom, for instance. So how many of each game do I need? Really only one... I only play one at a time...
-
Hah, silly me saying "both" when I don't know any better! I just have two versions, one with the gatefold and the other is regular Mattel box style. Nothing too exotic...
-
Wow, checked my collection - yep, I have both box styles for Burgertime!

Mattel Aquarius multi cart for sale - Aquaricart
Rick Reynolds replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Wow, I didn't even know such a thing existed. How large is the Aquarious collecting community? I had never even heard of it until I had been collecting Intellivision stuff for quite a while.
