what is a good price to sell loose atari 2600 games at?
CDS Games replied to coleco82's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I keep an eye out for carts I don't have, and my target price is $1 a game for commons. Like teh_lurv said though, most people on here already likely have most of the carts that are in your collection. You may get bites for less common ones, and those you could charge more for. Its pretty game specific. Good thing is at a buck you may unload commons to people like me who already have the games but need the shells for homebrew or hack projects. -

Broadside: an extensive Combat Hack with 25 variations

LOL....call it a reappraisal rather than revisionism. Kevin and I have both spent a lot of time under the hood hacking this one. Not only seeing how the game works and the graphics but also playing it over and over and over again in the course of testing.
-
Exactly. If you are moving down and kicking at the same time, the enemy will follow you down and walk right into your kick. Jump kicks are good to close the distance, and if you jump kick right on top of the guy and get the timing right you can throw an elbow right as he's getting up again. The programmer(s) did some phenomenal work with the backgrounds...the whole scenery above the street is a complicated mix of playfield graphics, background colors, and the two sprites placed and copied in various combinations, since they weren't needed up above the players. The program gives you a great deal of flexibility in terms of scenery.

First batch...orders are going in the mail tomorrow. Likely going to order up some more ROMs for a second run, so let me know here or via IM if you want a copy. -
Broadside: an extensive Combat Hack with 25 variations

This version is wrapped up but that's a good idea if I ever get around to a Broadside 2. I was also thinking about implementing prevailing winds like the ship fights in Pirates. -
Kevin did include some game play hacks, yes. The one I play has unlimited lives and a weak enemy....doesn't take as many knock-downs to get him out of the game.

It's absolutely amazing how they transcended the console's limitations to even get this game done. It was one of my favorites back in the day and I never knew it came out for the 2600 either. That said, it suffers from poor sprites (surprisingly for an Activision title) and punishingly hard game play. Unless you are a collector, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the original. Look into having Al make you up one of KevinMos3's Arcade-style hacked versions. About the same price and you'll end up with a much better looking and better playing game. Even Kevin's labels are awesome. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/154984-hack-project-thread-galaxian-arcade-double-dragon-xenophobe-etc/

The first batch of 4 is now reserved...but if you want in for a possible new batch, let me know. -
Never mind...found a huge database with all the info: http://gpdgames.tripod.com/id12.html Black manuals are 4 x 6.5" and white ones are 5 x 7"...in case like me you don't have any floating around.
-
A while back I made a hack of Combat called Broadside and I thought it might be fun to put it on a cart. At the moment I've only got 4 copies available; this batch will be first come first served. But if there is wider interest I'd be happy to order up some more ROMs and get everyone taken care of who wants one. I am also putting together a manual for this that will ship with the game. Carts and manual will be $26 plus shipping, via Paypal. Message me privately if you are interested.

Sorry...the manuals for the games, not the console: Combat, Air-Sea Battle, etc.

Been looking for this information online and can't seem to find a reliable answer. Does anyone have the exact height-width dimensions of Atari's instruction manuals? I need the black-cover measurements most of all, but if you're feeling ambitious I wouldn't mind the white-cover ones and the silver-label style manuals as well, if they are different. Thanks!

Thank you!!

Which one is that Nathan? It'd be massively helpful for me to see the colors natively in Stella instead of Web approximations.

Looking for a programmer for a physical 2600 game
CDS Games replied to Uncle Clutch's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Shouldn't be too hard to do, but I believe Tunnel Runner requires a special RAM-Plus chip so it may be more difficult and/or expensive to get actual physical carts made, if that is your goal.- 10 replies

Could anyone take the last build, disassemble it, and see if Nukey left comments in the code?

I have a feeling that in 1977 the order of rolling out a new tech product was a) get an idea, b) tinker around with it and see if it works, c) raise funds to produce it, and d) market the product. Seems like today, especially with these crowdfunding campaigns, it's a) have an idea, b) market it, c) raise funds, and d) tinker around with it see if it works. People want to make the money and notoriety and THEN figure all the annoying little tech, cost, and supplier "details". And so naturally many of them fail, because in real life when you test out ideas you find they are unworkable for any number of reasons. If it's just little old you in the development shop, no problem, just scrap it and start over, but when you've pulled in all this attention to yourself it's a giant mess.

It's close but look at the Y, V, and M....in the commercial they have diagonal lines, whereas Data70's are straight. The C in Computer has an extra thickness on the top hook just like the commercial, and ditto for the S in the bottom.

Computer is very close...though it has dots in the Ms that aren't in the commercial's font. http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/mti/computer/

Oh I agree--that's the whole reason I started this. I wasn't excluding finishing the original Coleco-style version, just something new caught my attention and I thought it'd be cool to try and potentially throw into the mix. This is a hobby, so I tend to work on what grabs my attention at the moment. Otherwise it'd be a job where the pay is positively atrocious.
