No prob Goldleader... this has been a difficult year for, hey... um everyone! Hopefully we can keep this going for another year, and if the spirit grabs you, it will be here then.

  4. AA Secret Santa 2020 is ON!

Members with strong Christmas spirit are encouraged to check it out. Only three weeks left to register to participate.

  5. Being interested in the video game products of the 20th century is a nice reprieve.

  6. Mercury is retrogaming.

  7. Ahhh...  Taking apart a common Intellivision cartridge to create a makeshift external solid-state drive enclosure. I love goofy little hacks like this.

  8. Pays to clean the garage!  I located my tricked out Apple IIgs (which I was certain I left for a street side trash pickup 6 years ago.)

I must have thought it was a friend's LC or a thrift store PowerMac when I'd glance in the box. Ive been kicking myself for years thinking I left it on the street. I was moving at the time, and that can cause drastic downsizing decisions. Nice to see it again for sure.

  9. Ahhhhh.... it's nice to have my home office back up and running again after almost a year.

I loved my home work office, before I quit working, now it's my personal awesome do whatever I want room, and I SUPER love it more!!

  10. Groovin to demoscene music at work

  11. I'm currently building an oldschool telephone system in my own home. Why? Three reasons, it's a novel way to connect the outbuildings (garage, workshop and orchard well-house) to the house -sort of a highly stylized intercom system, with a phone from a unique era at each end, that should be fun to use. Second, I can use the handful of old telephones I've accumulated in my lifetime and it's nice to have them serving a purpose again. Finally, the kids are going to love this when its finished.

Telephone simulator boxes are what you want to look for if you want to do this too. They rule.

  12. Was there ever a cartoon show for Bigfoot (the monster truck), or am I imagining things?

Oh cool. My son's is getting into monster trucks. I'll have to check these out then. I have only the faintest memory of this show.

I... I... I... Wow. The awkwardness of middleschool is fresher than it's been since then after watching this. I need to hug my dog now.

I've never see such a young person so keyed into robots. I mean she's only like 28 months. Still just figuring out Duplos. But wow... Wants to know everything about robots. I think Short Circuit is her favorite movie. Ponies and princesses don't do a thing for her.

Congratulations for encouraging and fueling her interests! So many parents don't pay enough attention to their kids to notice the things they're becoming interested in, leaving potential learning opportunities to die from neglect.

Yeah, I'm happy to encourage my daughter's world-conquering ambitions. Not doing so would be a disservice to humanity.

  14. Retogaming with real hardware? Hard. The gap to interfacing the controllers and video to the typical at home stuff is ever-widening.

Plenty of LCD TV's from 2008-2012 available with every input under the sun, including S-Video.

      deepthaw

Less hard and more expensive IMHO. Either RGB-mod and grab an OSSC or; a pile of HDRetrovision cables + Trinitron off Craig's List.

  15. Retogaming with real hardware... hARD

  16. Got Rikki and Vikki tonight. Wow... Just looking at the package and contents, this is a superb product. Gearing up for a big 7800 experience with an AA order today too

      GoldLeader

It strikes me as a "Better than NES" game...It feels...IDK, less tiled/less repetitive... Totally an indication of what the 7800 could do.

  17. Currently obsessed with making/fixing lamps and clocks lately.

Indeed. My wife and I inherited a dozen antique birdcages. We're really not into keeping birds, but they make awesome lamps.

@goldleader: I've been considering adding a signature for a long time and that just convinced me.

  18. Over-engineered and massively shielded RCA Monster Cables from 15 years ago turn out to be perfect for an unmodded Intellivision RF output.

      GoldLeader

I always liked Monster Cables...Have quite a few myself.

  19. So I broke up a pair of large Sony monitor headphones, and hot glued them under the hood of my 6-switch... Now my AtariVox has dedicated speakers! Sweet hearing the thing talk.

  21. The Charlie Brown Christmas theme is playing in my head. Things are calm and Christmasy. Very nice.

  22. If you have a CD-i, you owe it to yourself to play Christmas Crisis within the next 10 days. Especially if you have little kids.

  23. I have the periscope/marquee of a Battlezone arcade game in the trunk of my car. Its in good shape and large. Not sure what to do with it at this point.

Realistically if it's big and pointless on its own, If you don't need/want it, you might sell it to a Battlezone owner, but they'd have to need it as an upgrade to the one they have...

    3. GoldLeader

I have friends who would probably do something weird and artistic with such a thing...

The idea I like the best so far is to make an Ipod dock out of it.

@DrSpuds: Vacuum Formed ABS and Acrylic ... yum?

  24. Ok... Free night tomorrow. Wife, kids and houseguest all vacate... (for 24hr). What geekery shall I undertake, mmm?

  25. Just watched the first 29 minutes of Tron with my two very young kids. It was so much fun and a major cerebral exercise describing to them what was going on.

TRON is such an amazing movie & I love the whole nostalgia of the arcade games in it. It's a shame Disney isn't continuing with this awesome franchise. On a random note I really dug TRON Uprising and was sad when it didn't get a 2nd season. On another random note not sure if everyone saw that the director of TRON Legacy is at the helm of Top Gun II which really could have it's own thread on here.

    3. MrMaddog

      MrMaddog

Wow, we had TRON while kids have The Emoji Movie...

(BTW, did you watch Wreck-It-Ralph with them?)

      jaybird3rd

Tron is a great movie for kids, especially kids who already like computers. It's very spiritual and mind-expanding in its own way, and of course there has never been another movie since which looked quite like it.
