  1. This is terrible news and my condolences to his loved ones, family and friends. Curt was extremely talented, a fellow pug-daddy, and he's going to leave a hole in this community that will be hard to fill.
  2. So a quick update; first drive which has some cosmetic damage and doesn't have the analog board is working but slow. Seems to get better after being run a bit - a bit like a car coming out of lockdown. I'm going to try and adjust the speed. The second drive with the one-pin door is loading fine however, with the door as it is, the mechanism won't stay down so I had to improvise to do a test.
  3. Does anyone know if you can source the Tandon mech door improvement from anywhere other than Best? I'm guessing shipping would be a pain. I'm just going looking at two 810s. The first does not have the analog board but has an MPI mechanism (garage door?), the second has the analog board, but has the Tandon mechanism. There seems to be one brass pin in the door latch and nothing at the front of said latch. The latch is loose and whilst it can close, it goes too far so the drive mechanism opens up again. I'm yet to try with a disk to see if that will stop this happening but the latch doesn't look right. Or, can you source replacement pins? Has anyone 3D printed these? The non analog drive is powering on and making all the right noises so I'm going to tinker with that a bit.
  4. Any news on an 800 and/or 1200XL cover yet?
  5. Anyone used this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adapter-charger-for-9VAC-AC-Atari-CO17945-400-800-810-850-1010-1050-1200XL/352530105417?epid=4018359754&hash=item52146e8449:g:3-oAAOSwLr1b~zau&frcectupt=true T-Power - I'm looking for something I can just use across different devices but can't tell if it would have enough juice to run an 810 or 1050.
  6. I was slow to the uptake as my parents had divorced and getting a computer for Christmas was a big ask. My friends mostly ended up with Spectrums. I wanted a C64 but it was too expensive. In the end my parents relented and bought me an Atari 800XL. For some time before I'd been using BBC micros on a crude network at school. A cousin had an Acorn Electron - that sucked for them.

  8. I purchased a PS3 12Gb slim the other day just to play The Last Of Us. Haven't finished the game yet as can't snag enough TV time but have fitted a 640Gb HD to the PS3 and downloading like crazy using Playstation Plus. Having been a loyal Xbox 360 owner for many years I'm enjoying the PS3 platform, and it will keep me busy for a while.

  11. I too have a Jasper 360. It only once got extremely hot, but that was when I'd been playing Oblivion for hours on end, and it was about 35c outside and about 30c inside. The controller took on a life of its own and was a good hint that maybe it was time to turn the thing off and give it a rest for a while. I've found it to be a great and reliable machine so far, but I've heard bad things about using the Kinect with the older fat models so have never bothered getting one. Kinect doesn't interest me really, not enough to risk the death of my Xbox.
  12. Just a heads up for anyone wanting to contribute something BBS related to Atari User, we're now working on the next issue, so any submissions are welcome.
  13. Bought Privateer and Wing Commander IV . Remember playing the first Wing Commander on a 386 many, many years ago. Just finished WC IV , great game. Now to try the freebies.

  17. I'm just wrapping up the next issue so 2-3 weeks from now would be fine. We'd like to cover as much as possible, with some history, background on as many BBS as possible, BBS software used, hardware used, how to connect on classic hardware and via PC, that sort of thing. Ideally give each BBS plenty of coverage.
  18. Finally received mine, thanks. Looking forward to reading it.
  19. Looking good guys, we'll be featuring the active BBS scene in Atari User, so some good photos, history etc would be great - no naked photos though , please.
  20. Looks great Bob, and glad you're still using your many talents on the Atari 7800!
