  1. Man I think I'm actually now glad that I don't buy modern consoles due to 3D games giving me serious simulator sickness......

    TI-99/4A ROMS

timrad2 "an oldie but a goodie"! I remember well how exicited I was to find it in 1998 and get back my early childhood TI Memories. Since then virtually every cart based for the Ti 994/a has been dumped including a bunch of proto's , but timrad2 still remains a nice place to start.
  3. Let file association work for you in effect. Works as long as the file extension can be association with only one app. If your roms were zipped results would not be pretty. For my bin files I prefer not to association them with any one app and would use a batch file on desktop with command line in it [or convert the batch to exe] in same situation - but you have something that in you case was simple and suits your needs which is all that counts.
  4. "One other thing to try is to turn the 'ramrandom' setting on and off" Hi, That seems to work. I tuned it to false by editing stella.ini Will anything in other games be different if I leave it that way and is it setting via UI?
  5. A lot of great changes and usual amazing work in 3.8 thanks stephena. Couple of Questions; 1) Is there any way to convert a save state from 2.82 to 3.X? Or anything you can do if I send you the st0 file on one-time only basis? 2) Randomization in Dragonstomper appears to not be working. 3-4 years back it was stuck on the "version" in which the Cross gives healing. You fixed that after 2.8x or 3.0 I think ? [see link below]. Now it seems to be only the Staff that will heal. Of course the staff is the hardest to aquire the cross was the easist. I've tried 5 times with 3.81 and same result [staff]. On an actual system the cross seem to seem to server as healing 2x as much the other objects. Here is that old thread where it's you converse with Eckhard and it's mentioned Escape From Mindmaster also may use same logic: http://www.atariage....25#entry1768212
  6. Trackball as a substitute for a spinner in games like Tron after the first level or so just won't cut it - at least all I know who have tried it did not. Same also for stuff like Kick, Omega Race, Cosmic Chasm, Discs of Tron, Tac\Scan, Tempest Tubes, Arkanoid or anything "Breakout" based. Although Tempest can be played almost half way sort of [but not quite imho] decent with a trackball, a spinner is a must for the high levels and extended game play not to mention proper arcade feel. As I said there really is no subsititute. I do a lot of DIY/Modding on my panels and I have an great Oscar's optical dial/spinner [even have a replica Tempest knob and others] but they are long out of business. However groovygamegear has a great alternative and best of all it works in a standard 1.25" arcade button opening unlike the Oscar. http://groovygamegea...5947fjrskbcach0 Of course for Tron and Discs Of Tron you need a mounted Joystick with fire button built in - that is an issue itself. It's solvable but at least for me not as easy as the spinner half of the equation. Spinners/Dials are also excellent for racing/driving games like Pole Position, Outrun, Spyhunter, etc....
  7. That's what I use for console based trackball emualtion could not imagine using anything else again. It appears X-Arcade no longer make the stand alone unit but refurb's do pop up from time to time on http://www.xgaming.com/store/category/arcade-joysticks-and-game-controllers/
  8. In my "Robotron Panel" I recently swapped out Happ Competitor style joyticks which used microswitches for joysticks with leaf switches as the original game had. The new sticks are red ball tops also just like the original Robotron Cabinets. I have the leaf sensitivity on the fire control stick set like a hair trigger - the slightest touch causes firing. On the movement stick [i know there is sick joke in there somehwere] I backed off on the sensitivy for finer control. Since the joystick change my average score now is much highr than what my old all-time one-off high by quite a bit. So I guess my tip is use leaf [even if you have to custom mod the panel to hold them like I did] instead of microswitches. That and shoot those circle things fast.

What a truly vile responce. I've been around these parts since the 2600 Nexus days and a post like that has no place on these Atari Age forums - it's not Yahoo. I've reported your post.

"It's rather mind-boggling that people are still using old, crusty, hard-to-use weird stuff instead of normal, easy-to-use web sites." usenet/NNTP is not part of the World Wide Web. The internet is more than the web. 5 minutes of google would explain everything. Just because you do not know what something is no excuse for ignorance and intolerance. Once again 5-10 minutes of google research and you could have figured everything out . There is no "secret handshake" as you snarkily put it. there are plenty of free NNTP client's. If you are too lazy to do research fine but at least be honest about that. Geeez you have nearly 22000 posts to this forum, how about taking 10 minutes away from posting here and do some research with google or yahoo or the search engine of your choice.

So you won't use something totally safe for roms like usenet [alt.binaries.emualtors.mame] but you are willing go to a sketchy website run from "offshore, international waters" where you have to click once at minimum for each individual rom - BTW the complete rom set is over 12GB "zip" there is no "one zip file". Rather mind-boggling but the loss is only yours so whatev's P.S. With a decent new provider and 25/5 connection even a complete mame flood can be DL'd in about 2-2.5 hours. Plenty of decent NNTP GUI clients to choose from if you are not technically inclined.
  12. I realize that. It's very rare when an end consumer purchases something direct from a license holder. My point in that post however is still valid.
  13. Nope, not even close. Has to do soley with their nasty bloody war against peace-loving fan sites and well as emulation. atariage has not been affected but that does not mean they won't eventually direct their vile legal missiles this way.
  14. Found this, thought it might be of some interest.
  15. I think I had the Windows 3.1x version of vol 1 and 2 running in DosBox. It's been a while so I'd have to revisit it. I'd be curious to know how to make the Action Packs play games from rom dumps. I also have the Windows 95 version of vol 2 and 3
  16. At one time Warner owned them both. When they dumped Atari it appears they may have lost rights to the name - although there was an Atari one-shot from DC as late as 1986. In 1995 [last updated in 1997] as per the now ancient Atari Force FAQ "ATARI FORCE is a trademark of Atari, Inc. The characters are trademarks of DC Comics, Inc. Use of the aforementioned trademarks is not intended to challenge said ownership." http://home.hiwaay.n...rce/af_faq.html http://home.hiwaay.n...rce/intro.shtml
  17. Nice work! Which conterweight did you get? I've been thing about picking 2 groover gamer spinners. For now I'm still using my USB Oscar Controller spinner [remember those?] in of my old HotrodSE's that I added on of those X-Arcade USB controller boards in. Not sure if I want to use my other USB "modded" Hotrod SE or my X-Arcade for the groovey spinners.
  18. Nearly every official 'final' MESS as well as some beta's, both binaries and source, ever released can be found at: http://www.progettos.../links.html#bin http://www.progettos.../links.html#src Direct .138 binary link: http://www.progettos...n/mess0138b.zip
  19. I posted in to wrong topic, pardon the dupe for those who've already seen.
  20. Hi Gang, Have tested my Visiondapters and all is great with Coleco and original Intellivision controllers [iNTV1]. I know they are not inexpensive but don't miss out as I did in past with other efforts by not ordering extra. Strike while the iron is hot is the lesson I've learned with custom adapters. I dealt with Tom a bit off-line and he was able to create custom firmware that allows Visiondapter support for TI 99 4/a Joysticks! I'm using the same exact sticks my cool Mom {may she rest in peace} purchased for me 30+ years ago to play Tombstone City, Alpiner, Tunnels Of Doom, Zero Zap, and more using MESS. The 99/4a firmware is not on his site but contact him, if you're a TI fan you'll be glad you did. Oh and call your Mom if your still lucky enough to be able I would give anything if I could again.
  21. IIRC in 2009 (?) it was said ROM releases would follow suit. I realize Albert, et al wants to recoup their investment and I support that. However if after all this time that has not been accomplished it's not likely that it will be. Any chance of releasing the Turbo roms in a donation like fashion? Similar to what was done today with Extra Terrestrials. I'm sure many members here in good faith would be willing to go $1-2 dollars for the roms. If just 1 in 3 donate, it will probably lead to a far greater influx of cash then waiting for whatever carts remain to finally sell. In fact after some play/sample for themselves it could easily sell carts as a bi-product. Just my .02 hope you agree as well.
  22. Leonard, Great News! I have all previous editions and will wait patiently for the 4th. The 2nd edition may have been the first Video Game history book I ever read. That along with the early "discovery" of emulation in 1997/1998 got me back into the systems of my early childhood. I'd like to give you my thanks.
  23. Thanks for the config , always nice to save time
  24. Hi, seems you need the bios rom. Already covered 3 years ago on AtariAge, this link should solve your problem: http://www.atariage....issing-in-mess/
  25. I track many of the Starpath's and condition is important. Here some questions: 1) What is condition of the cassette - special importance given to the label is it shiny? does it have scratches or indention's? is it peeling? fading? etc... 2) condition of the manual? wrinkled, creases, etc..... and of little importance to virtually everyone but out of curiosity is the cassette box original? In decent condition these sell for $30 - $60 depending on the auction. Less without the manual. By sell I mean actual "hammer" prices not ones that have high asking and never move. My opinion is auctions do better in the end when the starting price is fair.
