  1. /silly ideas/ Maybe install transport panels, nearby, to allow one enter there and back, but only allow use if you've collected a specific item or met some other criteria. Make the items inside destructible or at least more useful. /-silly ideas/
  2. There's apparently an Amiga 500 core. Wonder how well that works. Some of the most common keyboard short-cuts could be mapped to b-b-buttons, but are there any solutions for computer use, such as proper key-board mapping, maybe with external dongles? https://joshcampbell191.github.io/openfpga-cores-inventory/analogue-pocket.html
  3. Anyone feeling up to converting this image? It's from the recent Artemis test mission around our neighbor. (I'm basically PC-less, now-a-days and hate to ask, but when I saw this, thought it might make for a decent conversion)
  4. Yup, quite a few, including an SNES and some individual coin-ops. https://retrododo.com/all-analogue-pocket-openfpga-cores/
  5. They installed a few classic cabs, set on free-play - Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Asteroids and Galaga - recently, for a limited run as well as marquees being mounted and videos played to acknowledge and celebrate that past. Hopefully they might try it again in the future. "1976 was a tumultuous year for the transit agency. With it came the grand opening of Embarcadero Station and extended hours of operation, but also a slew of financial woes and technical issues. This included one hot summer day when the system’s control boxes overheated, resulting in a fleet of stalled trains along what is now the Antioch line, according to former spokesperson Mike Healy’s book, “BART: The Dramatic History of the Bay Area Rapid Transit System.” Eager to improve upon its public image and boost revenue, BART formed a partnership with the Peninsula-headquartered video game company Atari, and on Dec. 1, staff rigged up a 7-foot-wide, six-sided Atari Arcade Theater Kiosk for riders to play on the Powell Street platform as they waited for their train to arrive." 6. Recently renewed my AtariAge subscription ( June 21st), for two more years. Received an email today, stating that an order for renewal was placed a few hours ago and was pending, given that I provide appropriate payment. The options seem to either renew or cancel. I don't remember placing an order today, especially as I recently just renewed. I assume this is an auto-renewal, eot recognizing the prior renewal. I'd like to maintain membership and can provide payment details - thank you PayPal, if needed.

Man... I was so disappointed. I have been on a Frasier binge the last few days. I started with Cheers but... it didn't feel interesting(?) watching it again. Maybe not the right word but I just couldn't do it. I laughed in all the right spots but when it came time for another episode I just said "What else is on..." Sad.

I still like Cheers,  except I've seen them all.  I know what ya mean though (I think).  Due to it being network, and Prime Time, S & P, etc.,  it always feels constrained (Even then, but especially now)...Like the idea of what goes on in a bar is there (kinda), but the execution is G Rated happy (hour) :)

Seems like I just heard someone (maybe Seth Meyers) talking about how Frasier was when the 7th most popular Cheers guy gets his own spin-off...And then he went on to say, Lessee Niles, Rozz, Daphne Moon,  come to think of it Frasier is also the 7th most popular character on Frasier.

Yeah I just ordered it after my brother mentioned it to me

  12. Though...uht-oh, I received this as part of my receipt. Transaction date Mar 4, 2022 14:02 (Clicking on the summary details on the Brewing Academy or PayPal web-sites show it's supposedly for the NUC, but thought this was a bit of fun. Either way, I'm willing to wait, if I'm bumped or if it needs to be resubmitted, later.)
  13. I had started to place an order for the version with the cartridge / Fujinet yesterday soon after they became available, had pause and navigated away from the page before finishing, but soon got an email reminder about items in my cart and after hemming and hawing for awhile, finally went through with the order just a bit ago. When I clicked back to their page, after-ward, it showed their build cycle was filled / they were out of stock; so it appears I may have some-how chanced out and was either kept in the queue and was processed or the order managed to slup through, somehow. Anyways, my order was confirmed and provided that all is canny, will be joining the ranks of wee smol Atari owners.
  14. Hmmm, I was just thinking, noting what is possible using the foot-print of mytek's 1088XLD design as a general basis, and noting some of Atari's own , but often undelivered developments from back in the day - like the dual drive; that it might just have been technically possible (with some fair amount of impossible insight ) , to cobble together a version of the 1450XL with something like the 1090 taking up one side of the back enclosure. The cards for the drive and maybe some of the other IIO , AV could take a couple of the card slots and save some board-space etc. Oh, well.; ) And, eh, heh scrolling up some, I see others were thinking along similar lines.. pnbbt.
  15. Oh, Klaus, our old friend. (Contains comedic gore, but your sense might vary. It's to promote safety, though! If this violates, mods feel free to delete.)

Yeah, that one's great.  Funny thing is I discovered this video first about 16 years ago or so as I was acquiring my own forklift license.

This was one of a bunch of test files we used to QA MPEG playback with back when I was working in OS development 20 or so years ago.  The idea was that we were all familiar with how it should look and play, so could put it on and know exactly what to look for if it wasn't working correctly.

I am forklift trained and licensed as a trainer for others. This video is SO cringeworthy! Thanks for sharing! :)

It's only about 15 minutes long or so, about the same length as the old Hallmark Greeting card ads they used to run in the 80s, that successfully turned my heart to goo and made me want to run out and get a card. That's where they got their start as an entertainment company.  Of course, chicken inspires very different emotions.

      carlsson

Well for being a 15 minute long sponcon, they have attracted a lot of attention ahead of broadcasting it. Perhaps they will turn it into recurring advertisements, like how George Clooney went from actor to Nescafé spokesperson?

Anything is possible, but much has been done recently with the character, with mixed reception, from an animated spokesperson, to parodies, to more recently an attempt at earnestness again. That's for the US market. There's was this Japanese comic series, starring a young Sanders as a kind of "Chicken Savior", with love interests. Wonder if the ad, err, mini feature, gets some of its inspiration from that, but in a heavily-toned-down form.

  17. Been waiting for this one, but a little uncertain if it wasn't created by Kev, whether it will get the support. Hmmm, that looks more like a PC-E port and not a TG-16 port. Maybe a typo.
  18. You've probably heard this song several times, especially if you like 80s video-game related movies. but did you know it had lyrics? (try humming it and you might figure out what movie it's attached to.)

Are we talking War Games?   I have not seen that in a long time.   It was in the 80's that I saw it.  I guess it was 1983.

    3. AtariNerd

      AtariNerd

It is War Games. Much of the sound-track consists of screen-specific incidental music, but there is this theme that plays over the closing-credits (I guess one might refer to it as the love theme. ;) )and has a few reprises in the sound-track.  Anyways, it's not one I'd typically seek out, but I had a version of it playing in the back-ground and it had a couple variants of the theme, with a sparser, more electronic synth sound, with overlayed voices, playing at the end. It was a bit of a pleasant surprise.

I think I only saw that one in the theater, Yet I remember it surprisingly well.  Maybe not so much the music, but the plot etc.,  It certainly seems like a quite rentable on VHS title though, huh?  Part of me thinks I may have rented it, but then I remember talking about it with a friend and I'm sure we saw it in the theater.  Pretty sure I've only ever seen it once,  though it may have been on as I flipped through movie channels at some point.  Like, I may have caught a quick scene before moving on...

  21. Original creator, Jordan Mechner, was on REDDIT, earlier today, doing an AMA and promoting a print edition of his 80s game development journals. I'm Jordan Mechner. Thirty years ago, I made a game called Prince of Persia. Now I'm releasing my 1980s game-dev journals as a book. AMA! "Thirty years ago, I made a game called Prince of Persia. Later, I worked with Ubisoft (as game designer) and Walt Disney Pictures (as screenwriter) to relaunch the franchise with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time––the game in 2003, the movie in 2010. Now we're celebrating the original game's 30th anniversary with a new illustrated and annotated hardcover book of my 1980s game-dev journals: The Making of Prince of Persia, just published by Stripe Press. Ask me anything! Well, ALMOST anything. I can’t answer questions about unannounced projects, even (especially) Prince of Persia. Alas. Info about the new Prince of Persia book at https://press.stripe.com/ and https://jordanmechner.com/journals. Info about all my projects (PoP games, movies, graphic novels, and others) at https://jordanmechner.com. I'm also on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, usually in that order. My social media links are in the footer at jordanmechner.com. And for a 20-minute look behind the scenes of making Prince of Persia, check out this ArsTechnica War Stories episode: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/04/war-stories-how-prince-of-persia-slew-the-apple-iis-memory-limitations/"
  22. I would suggest green as it is complimentary to the blue in the rest of the sprite, as well as providing consistent contrast to the background in all levels, but I suspect it's red because it does dual-duty for the blood. The red does have the nice effect of contrasting with the leggings, making them seem more differentiated from the back-ground, because of the lighter blue shade used, so it provides a nice effect and is a great choice given all of the other constraints.
