  1. Thank you very much for the advice! I just got myself a 5200 on ebay this morning. It's in pristine condition. It's the 1984 2 controller port model. The 2 games that are not compatible with that version are. Pitfall and Mountain King. It has 6 games with it, and I'll buy some more on atari2600.com. The controllers are in excellent shape (knock on wood lol). I will get a wico aftermarket one. Thsnk you very much on all the help and advice! I'm into console collecting. I'd rather have that than the computer. I have a big game room. And I made a spot and a new home for it. I can't wait for the beast to arrive! :)

Congrat's...my main system is a 7800, but I picked up a 5200 a few weeks ago and glad that I did. I also picked up the Atarimax SD mulit-cart which makes it easy to play the games ported over from 8-bit systems. My main motivation was to be able to review 5200 games for my blog, but I also find myself enjoying the 5200 as a game system!
  2. I got a question...sorta related...I just got an Atari 5200 and both controllers don't work (no surprise there, lol). I noticed people mentioning about the pokey or a multiplexer chip problem causing defective ports. My games work fine and the music plays so would I just need two new controllers?

I would hate to dish out soo much money for the gold circuit controllers from best electronics and still not be able to play.

I recently bought a 5200 with two controllers. Neither worked, so I ordered a 2nd gen gold one from Best. Plugged it in and my 5200 works like a champ. I say give it a try and buy one controller...you can always resell the controller, if the 5200 is toast.
  3. I've had difficulties with Pole Position and the joystick, too, but I don't know if it's a problem with the ROM images I'm using or with my console. The car just steers all the way to the left and can't be controlled with the joystick, though it controls perfectly if I use the Trak-Ball controller. My joysticks are Best Electronics upgraded sticks, and I haven't had this problem with other games. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one, anyway.

Yep, that's the same problem I have...hopefully, some one has an answer...
  4. Got my Atarimax SD cart a few days ago and it is really awesome!

I have one question for the forum...has any one had issues with Pole Position? My PP cart works great, but when I play PP from my Atarimax, it does not respond to the joystick. Anyone else have this problem? I have tried a couple different BIN's and they both do the same thing.

I don't have this problem with any other games...

  5. There's a pretty limited market for the 5200--just think how many more NES systems Nintendo sold--I wouldn't be surprised if it was tenfold or more.

In fact, there were over 60 million NES systems sold and only around 1 million 5200's!

  6. Received the proofs today. Tempest manual looks good, although there were issues with some of the other manuals (RGB to CMYK conversion issues, fairly common, where blue prints as purple) that they need to correct. I expect them to run the manuals tomorrow.

Glad to see that these other great games are also close to being ready for release!
  7. Just picked up my first 5200 yesterday at a semi-local retro game store. 4 porter with 5 games for $50. Spent some time cleaning it up as it was a little dusty...system powered up and looks great. As expected, the controllers need some work, but I can fix or rebuild them.

  8. In the past month, H2 has undergone a ground-up redesign and the new direction is very promising and exciting, and it will be more capable than originally conceived.

I've said this before, but I mean it when I say this year is the year...

    Awesome...thanks for the news!
