  1. Yeah, it would be nice to see a "permanent" archive of these somewhere in the continuous pursuit of software preservation. The tape features of the A8 were pretty cool. The .wav files are relatively large. The atarimania ftp does have some of the Talk & Teach titles in .flac, but that format does not appear to be supported by Altirra. Really cool that Altirra supports wav files, though. Finally, I can learn conversational Italian, French, German, and Spanish.
  2. I'm in! I would play any of those games. I've never heard of Alternity but it looks interesting. The rest I've heard of and played (at least) a little. Special nod to Abracadabra from TG. I think it might have been the first game I'd ever downloaded from a BBS back in the old days.
  3. More stuff soon. On the cheap (read: economical).
  4. Two great games in flat boxes. ($12 each, including shipping or $20 for both, including shipping) Both in nice shape with (flat) boxes, including original disks, disk sleeves, instructions, Quick Start guides, and warranty cards. Not tested recently. Additional pictures available upon request. I will ship either item within the continental US for $35, or both for $60. I'll take care of the shipping costs. I will pack them carefully, but I will not insure them as I will not be shipping them personally. Insurance is up to the buyer. No warranty expressed or implied. No returns. I don't have time to deal with that. If you think my prices are inappropriate, please post offers here (PM is ok too). No reasonable offer will be refused. If I don't respond, it's only because I think your offer is unreasonable or the item has already sold. This offer is good for one week from the posted date. John (Fres)
  5. Hope it does well. Appreciate the reviews.
  6. Nice. This one appears to actually work on NTSC machines too (unlike the full demo).
  7. I played around with an Atari Basic version of the LSL title song years ago. It's attached. Apparently you can load this with Altirra, not sure about what else. Not my best work, FYI. Simple basic proggy ... no decay on the voices, and a little pitchy, so it goes. Took an hour. P.S. I also played around with conversions of the LSL screens from the ST version ... can't seem to locate those at the moment. Also, if you do happen to try the atari basic file, give it a few seconds. It loads the song from data statements. It should ask you to press Start when it's finished. LSLSND.BAS

  9. I played around with LOGO quite a bit back in the day. My mom was a school teacher and they had Apple computers at her school and LOGO was very popular in educational environments back then. When Atari LOGO came out, my parents bought it. Years later, I used it for a college project. tschak909 offers a very good summary of LOGO without suggesting its AI roots. If I remember correctly, the students who used it were supposed to be teaching the computer how to do things based on Piaget's suggestion that one learns best by teaching someone else how to do something. "TO make a CIRCLE do this:" I'm beyond rusty, however. I could've thought up the whole thing five minutes ago without even realizing that I was having a mild stroke in the process.
  10. My dad had a company that trained people to prepare to take exams to get licensed in insurance sales. The exams were taken on some sort of proprietary computer. He had a simulator that ran on an Atari 800 (just to get people comfortable with taking electronic exams). This would have been in the mid to late 80s.
  11. I'll give you 43 (USD) shipped to Indiana, US. Can't go higher than $43, though.
  12. Great work! I know I always say this, but it's nice to see a new game with sound effects and music at the same time.
  13. I generally go pretty old-school with these kinds of topics, and I suppose I'm not following the rules, but that tune Mopar mentioned is really good. My old favorites (more for nostalgia and creativity than for technical achievements) are Conan, Boulderdash 1/2, and the Spy vs. Spy games. Honorable mention to the Alternate Reality games.
  14. Yeah, Jason, we're hijacking the topic, but we're also keeping it alive? I always thought the graphic glitches in Zone X were features (for the NTSC-friendly version). Not too distracting and definitely playable. Hope to be back for next season of HSC. I'll be finished with a major (time-consuming) project in a few months. Back to normal life, I hope.
  15. Yeah, Bob. There are quite a few titles that won't work with NTSC. I believe there is an NTSC version of Zone X at atarionlne.pl. It would be (v1) xex or atr. I've never seen a version of Astro Droid that was worth a damn on NTSC machines. Also Olympic Skier, like you said. Oh, and Fire Chief. I'v always wanted to play Fire Chief. I don't really care about the demos and lots of the newer releases that are PAL only.
  16. Funny that they're all Turbo DOS XE from 1990, but pilot.com is OSB only. Thanks for the post, though, Andreas Koch.
