Maybe it's just a mental hurdle to pass for people. I like modern games, and I like retro games mainly because there is still a vast library of games for retro systems that I haven't tried yet. I think it's narrow minded for anyone to paint themselves in a corner one way or the other. A lot of people only play modern games, when the next system comes out they haul in the old system to GameStop or wherever. It's the same mentality in reverse to only play games for 2600 or Action Max or only games produced until year "X" or after year "X".
YouTube can only show you so much. Sound and video are a person's only perception of a game reviewed. TACTILE! Get your hands on the system or game and then make a decision.
When SEGA was scrambling for games to push out on the Dreamcast, we got a lot of quirky stuff over here in the states. I had never seen an arcade style fishing game before, nor a simon says dance game, or played an NFL or football game (I used to think they were stupid), or a cell shaded game. The system almost forced you to take risks, and I think that shaped me personally in my attitude towards video games. I'm grateful for the education.
