  2. Well I found out why the screw wouldn't go in. That square thing with a hole was supposed to go where the battery cover screw screws into! Damn I'm an idiot.

Either case it still needs the volume slider fixed.

  3. I have a few jobs that need to be fixed...

Game Boy Original - Ghost lines on screen, likely needs new caps.

Game Boy Color - Speaker needs to be replaced. Also would like a front lit screen and a new battery cover (Clear Purple).

Game Boy Advance Original - Would like a backlit screen on it - very hard to see.

Game Boy Advance SP AGS 101 - The volume slider seems to be very staticy and sometimes moving it even up makes the sound go out unless I move it more. Could use a new speaker, and volume slider cleaning. Update - Figured out WHY the screw wouldn't go in. That square thing wasn't in the right spot! Well that solves that mystery. Still need to see about getting the volume slider cleaned and maybe a new speaker.

  4. Anyone know if there's any cheap repair services around for maybe 10$ + shipping? I'm having a lot of trouble with watching tv shows on DVD on my PS2, and I don't want to get a DVD player since I'll have to buy another power strip and have to use a component video switch.

Basically what happens is that during a DVD movie, it plays fine for a bit, then it starts freezing, then afterwards it says "Unable to read disc." on the screen. My model is an SCPH-30001R.

Quick rant here: Why can't Sony LEARN to make reliable products? I tried a VCR a month or two ago that was from 1996 and it snapped a tape, and beforehand I tried one from 2000 by Sony and it wouldn't eject well 6 years ago. Do they not even bother to test their equipment? Sega Saturns rarely break down, and they use CDs! Why?

  5. I've only been able to find old PC games and VHS at most thrifts I've been to. One time though I was able to get Armored Core for PlayStation 1 at one in Fort Worth, which is a city that's more into music not games.

  6. Personally I think Nintendo went downhill when they released the N64 - though their first party titles were incredible, most of the 3rd party stuff was just awful. This is why I love the Sony PlayStation 1 miles more than the N64. Ocarina of Time may be one of my favorites but even that was not enough to save the 64. They're very lucky Sega didn't do so good with the Saturn and their first party titles released were masterpieces as mentioned earlier.

Their first-party releases on the Gamecube were watered down compared to the N64 and some of them were even just more frustrating games (Mario Sunshine) than their beloved N64 games. I enjoyed the gamecube, but PlayStation 2 is miles better still. The best thing about the GC was the graphics. They didn't have games that looked like N64 games such as Ocarina of Time (Looking at you Grand Theft Auto 3) or Super Mario 64.

  7. An IBM EPSON that I never figured out how to use. We got a Windows 95 Packard Bell some time in early 1997 with a cohort of educational PC games and a classic mech game called G-Nome (Reminds me of 50s scfi movies like War of the Worlds and Forbidden Planet) which the old disc I think was tossed out originally cause they said the disc was beat up, but got a new disc about 8 years ago. Honestly the Packard Bell was probably the easiest PC I used up to that point, I could NEVER, EVER, figure out how the hell to use an IBM!! Thank god for Windows 95! Definitely owe a lot to Microsoft, even though their newer OSes aren't very good...

I probably wouldn't go back to a Packard Bell since those are kind of hard to upgrade or so. Compaq, Gateway, or Dell definitely were better.

  8. Definitely Commander Keen initially, and eventually Jazz Jackrabbit...

Full Throttle is still one of my favorite DOS games.. Heck, it's one of my favorite games on any system. ;-)

Full Throttle (Which I ironically just got about a week and a half ago) also introduced me to Gone Jackals. I've always had a spot for DOS games... there's just, well, something about 'em. I played more Windows 95 PC stuff but DOS stuff I might have sifted through quite a bit as a kid.

  9. Okay I see what you're talking about. I'd have to have a PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard, but the problem is that my desk ain't big enough for 2 keyboards.

Should I take a picture of my desk? I was considering putting the older PC on the top of the desk and hooking it to VGA on my monitor. And as you said I'll probably need a PS/2 Mouse/Keyboard. Out of curiosity, does Windows 98 work with today's internet connections?
