What I would do if I was William:
Forget about the money that I lost, and just release the game anyway in its current form, as coded by Mark. No matter how bad or incomplete I may think the game is. Maybe give it away along with the box, asking for donations instead of purchases. If I'm out $2000, then this would be my contribution to the Intellivision community.
Hire a new programmer to recode the game from scratch. If I'm out the money, so what? The world will not end. Even if I have to get new boxes printed.
Hand over the boxes, license, and all rights to the game to Mark. I wouldn't even ask for a dime. So what if I'm out the money? That's what a certain historical figure would do. (I won't say any names to avoid having a religious discussion.)
I would do ANY of these options long before I even thought of doing what William has done (just selling the boxes).

Pretty stupid statement, sorry. Do you really think William paid 2000$ and Groovy quit 4000$ more just to show you the middle finger? I dont think that you are that important for the involved persons. Its pretty easy to say how easy it could be from the outside, but all of us know that situations may look different if you are involved.
NOTHING is Earth-shattering, and no seemingly unresolvable "problem" will cause the world to literally come to an end. So everybody should just learn how to swallow hard, and release the game regardless of ANY undesirable conditions surrounding its release.

If anybody can code a new Hover Bover, and publish it / release it / etc. then YES, it can be done. You probably have to name it something else, legally. So just change one or two letters, and name it Hovery Bovery, or something like that to cover you, then GO FOR IT. Seriously, if I had the expertise and money to code it, publish it, and release it, then I would do so, with a new name, and MY OWN code, and there isn't anything that William could do about it.
I know most of you refuse to see it, but all of the parties involved just gave a middle finger to all of us in the Intellivison community by not releasing what was completed. Had they gone forward, putting all of their creative differences aside, then I guarantee you that the world wouldn't have ended by releasing the actual game instead of the empty boxes.

How many Intellivision games do you have? Somehow, I don't think you would have been buying it even if it came out.
Plenty. And yes, I would have bought it. At least two copies.
I can "get over it" but I can also see that the truth hurts (to quote an old saying). I stand firmly behind my statement that both parties acted like children, and should be ashamed of themselves.
-
Can't wait to get the boxes Willy! Let's get this thread back on track......he is limiting these to 100 sets, I think it's awesome they are even available....
It would have been even more awesome if both parties hadn't acted like 3-year-olds.
-
Difficult to understand why adult people act like this.
This is basically what I was saying, but Games For Your Intellivision essentially told me to shut up.
-
I'm confused.
It's two grown men acting like children. That's all you need to know. We landed on the moon, but we can't resolve this?
-
It figures. Two grown men couldn't resolve this issue like civilized people. You should BOTH be ashamed of yourselves for cancelling such a great project.
-
I'll take one!

I'm in for two copies.

Here's a copy-paste of Elektronite's response from that other forum:
Well, he certainly seems to have a lot of bravado.
I wasn't going to say anything yet......but......
I fell for his 'shock and awe' reports of amazing programming feats.
He made amazing initial progress, and immediately started to lobby me for a 'milestone' payment of $2000 US which was due upon him completing '2 working levels'.
Upon payment of this $2000 US, he sent me a rom that was without sound, without an intro, cut scenes, music, dog AI, mower acceleration or mower overheating. He considered this '2 working levels'. Yeah, right.
He then announced 4 of his own Intellivision projects, 3 of which he took $40 pre payments from the Intellivision community on Atari Age. I estimate, in total, he has taken upwards of $14,000 US from the members of Atari Age, and has not delivered ANYTHING.
He promised delivery of Hover Bovver at the end of April, and I ended up printing boxes and overlays for thousands of dollars, because of his bogus promises.
Since then, I've been fed report after report of 'progress' and seen 'gifeos', but no actual rom to try.
He ignored every request I made to see the game during development, or told me 'it's almost done'.
Of course, I didn't know at the time that he wanted me to pay for the game in full before he would ever let me see the game.
He lobbied me for 'interim' payments of even more money before the game was complete, and when that didn't work, he told me it was finished, and even sent a video of the game.
I sent him a picture of the money.
Unfortunately, the video was not conclusive proof that the game was actually complete, or even competently programmed. I refused to send him thousands more on 'faith'. So, we are at a standoff.
I asked Curt about Mark on Atari Age PMs, and got snubbed as it being 'none of my business'. I sent a message to Greasy Bee and told him that if the situation was not resolved, I would go public with the matter. I was admonished by the owner of the site, and my character questioned. However, he offered to 'mediate' by taking the rom, and then passing the money on.
I welcomed the offer.
It has been a week now, and Greasy Bee has not even bothered to read my reply.
Albert's offer of mediation was fair, and surely Mark would want to be paid for the work done.
The mediation eliminates the trust issue. Surely, the only logical reason to ignore or refuse the offer would be if he did not have the complete game, as I feared.
It appears that he coaxed $2000 US out of me with a bunch of bogus promises and some minimal programming. All show, but no go.
I see that he has already added 'Hover Bovver' to his portfolio of incompleteness on his profile on Atari Age. You would think that he would be embarrassed about it, not PROUD of so many incomplete games.
I am convinced that I've been cheated, and have thousands of dollars tied up in this game.
There are a lot of 'Groovy Bee' sycophants on Atari Age who are telling people that he is a 'valued member of the community'.
I really find it dismaying that a guy who programs a bunch of demos up of potential games, seems to have more 'cred' (credibility) than someone who has a proven track record of producing Complete in the Box Intellivision games.
Sure, I've lost $2000 to this shyster, but the community as a whole has lost upwards of $14,000.
I can't believe that there are certain people who call me 'unprofessional' when I say that he should be finishing my game before the others he took money for. They tell me that he is 'in good standing', and that he has done nothing wrong. Indeed, they encourage people to believe his lies that there was no deadline on finishing 'Hover Bovver'.
I have evidence that shows he admits that there is an end of April 2013 deadline. Yet, he lies in the Atari Age forums, and they eat up his BS.
The evidence is right before your eyes. If it looks like a duck, and sounds like a duck, well, it probably is a duck. -
Put me down for 2 copies.
-
Just remember that if you already purchased a copy, you can't get a second copy until all of the remaining games are sold to whoever wants them (if there are any left after that).
-
I did not catch it. What is it?
It's the word next. It is missing the t.
-
I think there is a type on rocky bullwinkle or yogi....cant remember.....
I see what you did there. You have a typo in the word typo.
-
I received my copies of SPT & SCB. As always, David's work is second to none. I must admit that, at first, I thought there was dirt on my SCB box, but it turned out to be the pepper falling down! And did anyone catch the typo on the back? I won't say what it is, just that one word is missing its final letter.
-
Thanks for the info, Groovy. And please don't forget about Kil-Botz! Many of us are also looking forward to that game.
-
Put me down for two.
-

Only 5 so far according to that homebrew master list in the other thread.
