  1. I bought one recently. I believe it was from this same seller. First one I got had some issues (though it was cosmetically perfect). Working out an exchange was awkward, as they were a bit disorganized, but there I was eventually able to return mine for a replacement. I haven't actually had time to try out the replacement, yet, to make sure it is working. I'll try to do that tonight and will report back on this thread.
  2. Hi everyone, I'm doing some cleanup of the difficulty settings in the highscore.com database, aided by some fellow AtariAge members. When reviewing the Dragonfire manual, it makes no mention of the use of difficulty switches, so we assumed (at first) that his meant that the difficulty switches have no effect on this game. However, if you look at the scores on the game with difficulty set to A and B, there is an obvious difference: Dragonfire (Atari 2600 Expert/A) 4,300 killersquirel << 2,930 Serious 2,810 S.BAZ << Dragonfire (Atari 2600 Novice/B) 8,780 killersquirel << 7,280 heywoodfloyd 4,300 S.BAZ << So, two of the same players scored almost twice as much in difficulty mode B than mode A. I took a look through the source code, and found this: ; ; DELTA FIREBALLS ; LDA FPCTL ; DO FIREBALL SPEED WITH WAVENO E DIFF ASL ; SHIFT DIFFICULTY TO CARRY LDX PLAYNO BNE SKIP34 ASL SKIP34 LDY WAVENO LDA #0 ADC FBSPEEDS,Y STA T0 LDX #NUP0S-1 DEFBLOOP LDA P0YS,X CMP #DEAD BEQ NEXT05 ADC T0 ; FIREBALL SPEED IF PAL CMP #$95+15 ELSE CMP #$95 ENDIF BCC OKXX LDA #DEAD OKXX SKIP18 STA P0YS,X NEXT05 DEX BPL DEFBLOOP Without understanding the routine here, based on the comments, it appears to me that the fireball speed may be different based on the difficulty settings. I would appreciate any insight from someone who can decipher the source, or who knows the game better than I do.
  3. Ok. You ang my wife have talked me into doing it. Plus, the opportunity to have Lunar Rescue running in my beautiful Space Invaders Deluxe cabinet is too much to pass up. Checking the voltage would probably result in my destroying my cabinet and blowing my arm off. I'm too much of a clutz to trust myself with a job like that. What I think I am going to do is buy the kit, then get a repair guy out here to look at my monitor issue and install the kit for me. I also have a somewhat unresponsive left button on it, and a few other quirks, so I think it is time for a tune-up. BTW, I watched a video last night on Youtube of someone demoing this kit in a SID cabinet, with a reflection of Zaxxon on the glass. I figure that has to be you.
  4. Still happy with the Braze kit? I have a Space Invaders Deluxe machine as well, and I am giving it some thought, but I am a little conflicted about it, since it is currently all original parts ( to my knowledge). Also, I'm wondering if you've ever had any trouble with your monitor? Mine is normally bright and beautiful, but has started going blank or dim occasionaly.
  5. I'm not sure about whether this would be true 7800, but I've yet to find anything better for maze games on the 2600 than a CX-40 plus a Stick Stand. Higher-end controllers seem too sensitive to me.
  6. I am perpetually upgrading items in my collection. More often than not, when I buy a game, I am buying a game I already have. If I don't have a game, and I see a loose one I want at a good price, I get it. If I see a loose one that is in better shape than the one I have, I get it. If I see a boxed copy of a game I have loose, I grab it. If I find a near mint complete copy of one that I have in lesser condition, I get it. Obsessive? Maybe.. But it is fun. The only thing that isn't fun is selling all of the lower condition items that I have replaced. That is a huge pain. Loose carts, I'll often sell off in big lots, but I take too much of a loss if I do that with boxed games.
  7. I agree with the other posters. This sounds like Crypts of Chaos. I own it but I've never really played it.
  8. People have begun asking inflated prices for it on eBay, due to the publicity around the dig (and they're seeking to take advantage of naive buyers), but it is worth about $10 if its in very nice shape. Keep in mind that this is one of the most produced, and least liked, video games of the 80s.
  9. I've only had a 7800 for less than a year, and I've never owned an NES before (but I have played it).. So I guess I don't have any nostalgia for either of them. NES games feel very NES-ey to me and hard to compare to anything else. I don't think the 7800 has more than 1 side-scrolling platformer (Scrapyard Dog), and my impression of the NES library is that it has these in abundance.. So its hard for me to weigh one against the other.
  10. Out on the Tiles (C64) Power Drift (C64) A.E. (Atari 400/800) I missed my pinball league night last night.. saved myself a little embarasment that way.
  11. I remember sounds from this game and KC Munchkin being used in Saturday morning cartoons. The fuse burning sound in Kaboom is pretty good.
  12. Check out "The Atari 2600 Show" on Youtube:

  13. Cool.. I missed this thread back in 2010, but now it looks like I get a chance to contribute.. My favorite of their releases for the 2600 are easily: Subterranea Dragonfire Demon Attack I love Imagic, so it is hard for me to say I don't like any of their games, but the games that I'd say I like the least are: Atlantis (probably because I suck at it so bad) Fire Fighter Riddle of the Sphinx (haven't played it since I was a kid.. maybe I need to revisit it)
  14. Recently discovered XSplit video software and I've been having alot of fun using it. Its great for making multi-camera gameplay videos.

  15. My A.E. score is 17,000. I used a program called XSplit to record the video. It was able to capture the emulator and mutiple webcams simultaneously. I used the free unregistered version, but I am probably going to register it as it is a really cool piece of software.
  16. There are NTSC versions that were released in Brazil.
  17. Atari Invaders 5,150 points. Please ignore the music. It wasn't from the game, but was playing in the background on my laptop while I was playing.
  18. I'm curious. Is this running under emulation, or on a real 64/128? I tried to get a C64 bbs on the internet about 10 years ago using a Lantronix ethernet modem emulator, but couldnt find any software (except Novaterm's host mode) that would recognize the incoming connection.
  19. I love my VIC-20 for gaming. The sounds are great, the graphics have a similar blocky charm to them as the 2600, and there are some really great games for it: Attack of the Mutant Camels, Bandits, Crossfire, and Lazer Zone to name a few. Compatibility with Atari joysticks is a plus, and the ability to load disk images via sdcard (with the current accessories available for it) is a real plus, as well. I am not familiar with the Dragon line of computers, but the later models of the CoCo have always interested me, but I've yet to try one.
  20. I never has an Adam, but I really enjoyed Tron Deadly Discs on the Aquarius when I was a kid.
