  1. there were some disks that had 2 versions on it, like c-64 on one side and Apple II on the other, but that was the exception, not the rule
  2. technically you need a "drive" as pi's don't come with storage "out of the box" unless you're one of the people that buy a kit with a 25$ pi 8.99 power supply, a 2$ case, and a 5.99 16 gig sd card for 129$ (+ postage)
  3. Bought this new old stock a couple years ago used it for maybe an hour tossed it in the pc parts bin (so it does have some tumbling in the drawer marks) It was one of the do cheap o's BITD but it works (the pc I sold at that time got a decent logitech oem that I bought after this one got lost in the mail for a month) 5 bucks mailed
  4. not as good as the original but a good effort ... unlike the VCS ??
  5. yea that is what I was thinking, its complex, doesnt matter if you have a 16TB hard drive, its a hard system to deal with considering its from the ground up design ... not saying its the hardest system do develop for, its just the least understood and its defiantly like driving a pro dragster on the highway
  6. disparaging really? get a grip, its a game console announced in 2017 that still hasnt been seen in the wild and what do you expect
  7. I have tried blue-tak on them before, it doesnt last long. in the past I stick them in their own container and stir frequently
  8. realistically case parts dont float that much, just poke it with a stick every hour or two, its the damn keycaps that cause you hell cause they always want to go belly up floating case parts not that big of a deal, they are more or less wet and exposed to light, just want to keep them wet
  9. no, removing 4 screws wont void your warranty, at least in the US, they made that unenforceable and companies can face fines if they try
  10. lack of contact with liquid where the glass is touching
  11. yes everyone should hate *insert current version of windows here for reasons that the vast majority of people really don't give a shit about* that does beg the question, if I can get a thin client running windows (ffs windows 10 for pi is free isnt it) how come a "big name" like atari can't strike a deal? Long-dong or OneHung-Lo managed to do it, and have been able to do it for years now off of aliexpress
  12. slap some wood grain vinyl on its top and call it a day, think I paid 8 bucks for the stuff I got to be used for interior car trim and it was enough to do an entire icade
  13. But they are competing with Microsoft Sony directly, Joe consumer wants a game console, and has 300$ in his pocket, here is his choices XBOX One X, 299$ Nintendo Switch lite, 250$(ish) Playstation 4, 299$ Atari VCS, 299$ Yea OK where's the list of software, we know the vault, but you can get the vault on every single platform that has existed since it came out and ...?
  14. except you ignore the fact that there are a pile of (even more powerful) consoles on the market that do exactly that, and you can go to any local reseller and buy one right now today, plug it in and get AAA games, indy games and all your media center needs fulfilled with a simple to use plug in tv box for the same price atari isn't exactly inventing the home media center console here, they have been out for 2 (going on 3) generations now
  15. depending on the size your local hardware store might have them, otherwise off to the interwebs
  16. why? do you think every barn find is going to be fully restored to perfect before shoved out the door? It will sell cheap and someone who cares can clean it rather than someone who doesnt hits the outside with a pressure washer and satisfies your twitch
  17. 400$ would buy me... A video card upgrade for my gaming pc (and the one I have now doesnt exactly suck, its just rather budget today) + A cheap electric power washer + a meat smoker + meat to put in it for a nice bbq with a couple bucks left over for a soda and a candy bar from work's vending machines
  18. I also would love to discuss the Ataribox and its merits, but the thing is just a embedded computer in a special box that doesn't exist, and that has not changed since they announced the damn thing in 2017. But I guess that's our fault.
  19. The fire buttons would still be plunger types looking at something more like a keyboard type of switch for those Thanks for the heads up on the solder comnectors I have never ran across one without the terminals
  20. I have found some moderate success with some drop in tacticle switch joystick controller boards for atari 2600's ... almost 1,000 sold world wide in 2 years and still selling out and getting new stock notification's Would anyone be interested in a similar concept for CV (my first console ever)? It would not be as cheap as the 2600 version just cause of the diode matrix, pcb size and side acting switches, but pretty darn cheap what you would get is a board with Connector for stock keypad 4 brand new almost clicky tactile switches 2 clicky trigger switches Similar to the 2600 boards just take the controller apart, remove old PCB, replace with new PCB and screw back together no cutting, modding, sanding or other irreversible things, just drop in, plug wires up and start playing Just feeling things out before I dive too deep in this rabbit hole just for reference ...
  21. well considering every gameplay video of the system has been fake, so obvious even we can see it, what do they expect? What's not been fake is the photo's over the last year or so ... they got some, very few plastic boxes sitting in a factory very thoughtfully shot... FFS anyone can do that, just send some cad files to smart prototyping or a billion other companies on that side of the ocean and yea you too can have some people in a factory making your shit, its not hard I have done it 5 times in the last decade as a one man contractor in my spare time out in the garage doesn't mean you have tens of thousands of units getting ready to ship, it means you have a few thousand dollars for a turnkey op to whip out some soft tooled examples. Hell soft tools are only good for a hundred or so shots, how many do they claim to have? Oh 96 that's convenient considering failure rate.
  22. to be fair using a ras pi as your baseline is like being amazed cause up till this point you have been driving a ford fiesta then saying ya know what? this Bentley is more plush of course it is, the best pi on the market is slower and lower spec than my 2013 office pc, so yea it takes forever to start up and you gotta tweak everything to make the most out of it (not to mention retroarch in itself makes the entire process denser)
  23. heh when I think quality games I really want to play I think THQ
