  1. Geez people, he didn't infringe on an IP. This is no more than fanfiction. The only reason he got busted is because a bounty hunter found the name in a google search. Why all the poo pooing? Neo, just rename it "Shark Tornado" and move ahead.
  2. In the US Disney lobbied to have the copyright laws abolished. Now there is no such thing as public domain although some things can be considered abandoned. Copyrights are assumed and can be perpetual. This is because Disney was about to lose copyrights on early Mickey Mouse projects and possibly the mouse himself. Back to the OP, the person isn't actually being sued as this company doesn't want to see a courtroom. A judge would dismiss the case and possibly fine the "lawyers" in question for punitive damage. This is more like getting an unsolicited bill. Assume your neighbors send you a bill for groceries because the shade from your house prevented their cabbages from growing. This is similar. Throw the bill away.
  3. Agreed. Toss the paper in the garbage, tell them it was interactive fanfiction, further tell them to "bite me" and you'll never hear more about it. Assuming the letter is legit, which I still doubt, these aren't the real lawyers. Many companies will pay a bounty to firms that find and collect damages on copyright issues. I remember Pamela Anderson talking about all the "lawyers" she had. Most lawyers in this field are really just collection agencies with one or two lawyers on retainer so they can keep the name. I had a hospital bill go to a "law firm" once and successfully filed harassment charges against them which proves no lawyer actually knew of my case, or at least no intelligent one. Alas, as CC said, it's impossible to collect civil damages. The IRS is the only entity with that power.
  4. Less than 1 amp? I wouldn't try it then. The voltage is ok as most devices down convert it anyway, but don't take that as a given. The amperage is an issue though. You are better off just getting aftermarket supplies as they are probably better anyway. Technology has come a long way in the past 30 years.
  5. Two free codes from Loot Crate. I'm going to post them openly so first to use them gets em. If you use them please reply so others don't waste their time. 1- CurseVoice offers a free skin and unlock, visit cursevoice.com jrbacb2c5af540911 2- Halo digital comics digital.darkhorse.com/halo xsc3a6pbhu
  6. Consoloes belong in front of a couch sure, because they belond in a home. You need cabinets of some sort. I'd like a cocktail cabinet style.
  7. We both sent him a PM months ago but it was when he was away. I guess it got lost in the shuffle. It's probably fate telling me I need to pay extra on my car loan anyway. It's all good. I need to hold off spending until Albert gets the new molds ready for the AtariAge store anyway. Then there is the NES portion of CollectorVision ramping up, PackRat getting into Vectrex..... edit-- I should have know better than to doubt, he had one saved all along.
  8. I guess the one I had reserved from dubxcube was sold without me getting a PM? We both contacted you months ago that he wanted to back out and I would hold his spot but you never responded. Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be.
  9. I've actually been holding off on buying a few homebrews waiting for the new shells to materialize. This is a good thing. It's odd how the Vectrex, SNES, and even NES have shells available for them now. If someone would just make a Sega Genesis cart mold the bulk of homebrews could be made with no donors required.
  10. Have you spoken to Bodyshots? He wants vectrex stuff. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/226350-wanted-vectrex-flashcart-intellivision-sega-32x-and-more/ There was someone on NintendoAge as well but I suspect it's the same person. I wish you luck on the sale. If Richard hadn't come through with the flash cart I'd be all over this.
  11. wd-40 does soak into the plastic and leaves it a shiny black. He could have used that to clean it. It actually works quite well on black plastic and it's been used for that since the 70s so it's safe to assume any side effects would have surfaced by now. As for the photo, I think it's camera flash.
  12. I disagree. Reproduction is reproduction. As long as it looks good and functions properly for the game then it's all good. At the very least it's better than nothing. I'd rather someone could mass produce them for 10-20 a piece than have them hand made and cost 50-100.
  13. Can't you just change the fonts? I realize it wouldn't be a perfect match but there has to be a better way.
  14. We need a way to mass produce them. Even if it meant buying them as sets only it would be better than nothing.
  15. Isn't it ironic that people asked where Richard is when he posted here? Seriously though, Richard makes the best one.
  16. I only have one piece of advice. Assuming you get several offers, don't try to start a bidding war. I've had sellers do that. I'd get vague responses like "other people were interested as well, can you tell me how much shipping you'd be willing to pay" at which point I tell them to get stuffed.
  17. I've been notified of a promotion. I don't know how long it will run so get there now or forever miss out. If you sign up for a free trial you get a free game to keep. A free rental and a free game. http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=7&threadid=128605
  18. Ironically I was thinking that as well. Both of the games I got from them were minty fresh.
  19. You should add a place where members can check which consoles they have. That would tell you who might want what. Atari 2600 games can be had cheap and I bet people would rent the Activision titles among some of the other classics. Then again the games are cheap so maybe not.
  20. I can say that I do think people should give it a shot. I don't know what problems Gamefly had but Retroscribe doesn't suffer from them. The games traveled across the country in two days and were in great shape.
  21. The lost fee is $100 and they only rent <$100 games. It's also tied to PayPal for billing. This service is much faster than gamefly ever was.
  22. I wondered if anyone here was familiar with Retroscribe? https://retroscribe.com/ And no, I don't work for them Anyway, the idea is to be the gamefly of the retro world. Now honestly I'm not so sure it's a good idea. Retro gamers are mostly collectors, right? That said the customer service is great and the shipping is fast. My games got from their headquaters in PA to NC in two days. I'll probably rent a handful of the games I can't buy cheaply and then cancel it. Castlevania 4 is my first rental and so far I'm very pleased.
  23. You can get phone numbers yes. I had a seller call me once just to confirm minor issues so Ebay is pretty free about giving that out. That said I'd never call anyone. Just forget it and move on. If he gets back to you good, if not look elsewhere at a later time. It's possible he didn't want international shipping as was said above. Ebay tries to force it lately.
  24. The legal term is "unbundling" and the precedent isn't clear. You didn't buy the movie you licensed the right to spin the disc and the code is a "gift." hollywood would say you can't sell it as the gift was part of the purchase. Kind of like how some grocery items purchased in bulk will be labeled "not for retail sale." First Sale Doctrine makes this a little more complex though and I don't think Hollywood actually wants it to go to court as the danger of setting a precedent allowing it is too much and would virtually destroy the Ultraviolet system as we know it. That said I'll give you 5 dollars for it. Family Video sells UV copies for 5 dollars so I'm not just trying to lowball you. http://familyvideo.com/catalog/browse_genre.php?browse_id=255
