  1. Anyone in Poland willing to help me buy something off Allegro?

  2. Hey everyone! I'm finally finished with the remodel and sale of my house and I'm in the process of moving and setting up a new electronics lab. Sorry I've been away so long!

No, I'm staying nearby. We've got my wife's elderly parents to look after.

I loved the cover art of Synapse titles. It had this eiree/cool look to it that just drew you in.

I talked to Tim Boxell a few years ago about possibly creating some posters from the originals. We kinda lost touch.

I'd love to see some Synapse posters, even if it's a compilation of all the boxes in one poster. Very nice artwork.

  5. Wife and I just had a debate about washing things that go in the recycling. I'm not sure why I should use water to clean the garbage.

We wash all our recyclable containers, if for no other reason than the sake of the people who have to work with the recycling.

Do you want ants? Because that's how you get ants. (By not washing the food off the recycling.)

Something to do with "the human element."

I kinda fell into that whole thing too...I prolly read about 4 pages total as I felt like skipping ahead.

There's some good nuggets of investigation in that giant TG thread. One of the best is the proof his 5.51 certificate is fake. I now think that Activision was naively publishing scores with little supporting evidence which led to three people submitting 5.51, and Todd's stories of proving the score to them are false. If you had access to an Atari A8, you could easily draw a convincing Dragster screen and take a pic of it.

  7. Ebay's front page says, "Love what you own, Sell what you don't." To me, this implies "Sell what you don't own" since Sell positionally replaces Love.

Maybe they should say Love what you sell, own what you don't.

That could be the worst slogan since "You've Got A Friend In Pennsylvania," but I don't see it on Ebay's site anywhere?

    4. jaybird3rd

      jaybird3rd

Yeah, it's an awkward construction. "Keep what you love, sell what you don't" would be better.

  8. Somebody toucha my spaget!

  9. Anyone need a box of 1050 mechs? https://www.ebay.com/itm/222780056631

Thanks very much! I've got four 1050s which could use new mechs. Keeping an eye on it ...

  10. I imagine Intel is pretty freaked right now, but when I first heard about the bug affecting just about everything they've made for 10 years, my first thought was how clever it is that we all need to go out and buy new systems.

  11. Two feelings I miss from childhood (in case anyone's working on designer drugs out there): 1. The feeling of being so excited Christmas eve that you can't sleep. 2. The feeling of being totally immersed in a crude 8-bit game world, even something as simple as a text adventure.

2 Great feelings to be sure! I remember Christmas (of '79) getting lots of Micronauts and thinking that was pretty rad as well.

    3. doctorclu

      doctorclu

Imagination is key here. Think back... what had you seen up to the 8-bit games? 2600 games. Forget the rest, be blown away with 48K and 64K games compared to those measely 4K games. ;)

Had someone laughing at me the other day. They asked if I had a pen and I pulled like five pens and a sharpie out of my pocket. I tend to set them down and walk off and then I need one and don't have it, so I carry several so I'm less likely to be without.

  19. My wife does transcription, and it seems like Canadians are fond of referring to the '20' part of the year as '2'. So, 2012 becomes 'two-twelve'. Is that a thing up there?

    4. BassGuitari

      BassGuitari

I'm just glad saying "twenty-" is finally catching on here. "Two-thousand-" drove me nuts; after all, we never said "One-thousand nine hundred-" to describe years in the 20th century. "I was born in one-thousand nine-hundred eighty-five!" NO, motherf@#$er.

  20. Listed something on CL and got a text wanting to know if I'd take a cashier's check for more than the amount and he'd get the item once it cleared.

Yeah, the first text to me included the entirety of my listing title which no one would type out when texting, so pretty sure it was generated by some system.

To be fair, it's a pretty nice looking repro. But $50 seems high even with a box, and I don't care for the cut of his jib; while not stating that it's original, he really seems to want you to think that.
