  1. I was never terribly good at video games as a kid, and I had friends I couldn't beat and so I'd freak out a bit. I remember yanking out a joystick and throwing it across the room after being beaten several times at Ballblazer. I also destroyed a mouse after a long losing game of Command HQ (PC strategy game). It's just so infuriating when you can't figure out what you're doing wrong. I'd probably put a thin coat of clear paint on the badges if you get them nice and polished. Otherwise they'll look dull after a while.
  2. Oh yeah, it could have been a lot better. I'm just saying that something on par with Ms Pac-Man would have required an 8K cart and more time. That blame rests with Atari management who was developing a habit of sabotaging their biggest releases.
  3. Well, the bad was that Atari killed the golden goose and had to unload the company in a fire sale, and you have to look at the missteps leading up to that. Pac-Man is a decent 2600 game. It's hard to imagine doing a faithful port in 4K and 4 months with tools from '82. The problem has to do with Atari building up certain expectations with borderline false advertising and then delivering something quite different.
  4. I'm worried atarimania will be gone one day. I'd buy the site on DVDs if there was such an option.
  5. That's awesome. I know it's a hard thing to do since the typical retro user doesn't need somebody to hold their hand anymore so you have to make it about other stuff.
  6. Is there a jumpscare game that competes with that unexpected video ad in one of your browser tabs?

      Haha, I hate those! lol

      Random Terrain

I've never seen one of those. Maybe it's because I use Adblock Plus and NoScript?

  7. I think it would be cool to see Tod get back into it with any project, new or old.
  8. I was really holding out for the 1246XLD.
  9. Assuming Tod is really here and now we can discuss the design of game from the other side, do we need to continue posting statements like that?
  10. Don't new accounts need to be approved? Hopefully if someone applied for the name Tod Frye and used his image someone would look into it.
  11. Hi Tod! It's awsome when Atari celebs show up here (and don't get scared off by a bunch of fanatical man-children). Do you read AtariAge or did someone contact you about this thread? I'm sure there's got to be some disassemblies of Pac-Man around here.
  12. It was essential that I subscribe because I can't seem to post anything without making a typo.

I'm the same way. I think I edit every post at least three times, not so much to fix typos as to improve grammar and syntax and to develop my ideas further.

I'm sure my condition has a name. I see what I meant to type instead of what's there until I go away and come back.

I'm the exact same way. I've renewed my subscription many times to both support the site and be able to fix embarrassing typos.

  13. GTIA doesn't produce all high-res pixels at the same width. Thinner pixels may be lost if the control is turned too far clockwise and it will vary from machine to machine. That's one of the things I use the test program for (using the thin lines on the left).
  14. http://www.ebay.com/itm/332407203811 Is this cool? Yes. Is it $50K cool? Probably not.

Awesome. I'll put it toward that sweet Andersen Windows printing block.

We should Flood him with $10 offers!

  15. Wow... listen to those sound effects.. which are totally not 2600 Pac-Man. Amazing what you could get away with.
  16. I was always amazed at the sheer number of 3rd party drives available. I think it was unusual given the size of the Atari marketplace.
  17. "Self centering hack" sounds like an insult.
  18. Okay, well then I wish you good luck! So, when do we get the big expose on the Atari disk drive industry?
  19. There's this: "Naturally, it's from Atari!" = Don't worry, we got this.
  20. If I ever hit Lotto, I'll probably be crushed by all the unnecessary stuff I'll buy on ebay.

Depending on how much you won on Lotto, you could buy a bigger house before filling it with junk.

      It's a problem I'd like to have :)

      Nothing is ever unnecessary.

  21. You're probably right. I know what you mean. The early flat and gouraud shaded stuff was pretty, but texture warping was disturbing.
  22. I'd offer $200. It's certainly worth that since XF551's are going for $100+ on ebay. (and do it quick since you've posted it here!)
  23. I'm a 47 year old record (ok, vinyl) collector and I get upset at some of the noob videos on YT regarding the topic. We have a century of information out there and some kid's just making wrong stuff up like he's the guru. ...
