  1. Well we got a chance to play this tonight with my kids and we had a blast! It's alot like Mario Party, and has a "game show" format. There are trivia questions, but each round has several mini-games based on Old Testament stories, some of which are hilarious, all the while current Christian rock and pop hits play in the background. It's a great family game.
  2. The DS Atari retro cart has Warlords on it and it plays decently on the stylus control. I too am disappointed as I saw these a few weeks back but passed on them (finances at the time not info). Now they will stay there.....ho hum..(plugs in Flashback 2 ). Cassidy 958026[/snapback] I'm sorry, you're right- I forgot about that one, probably because of all the silly "updates" to the classic games on it, I forgot that it included the original versions, too.
  3. Well, I just went over to Gamestop to pick up the Taito Legends collection for PS2 and saw the Bible Game for the first time... and ended up buying it. It's more than a trivia game, there are several skill, puzzle (Tetris-type) and mini-arcade style games included based on Bible stories, as well. There are also several hit songs by top Christian artists like the Newsboys and Tobymac. I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but it looks like a decent game that I can actually play with my kids, and God forbid... maybe even learn something while being entertained. I don't know some people feel "threatened" by a game like this, you don't have to buy it, and nobody is taking away your games that glorify rape, murder, stealing, blood, gore, and sex, which seems to be the majority of games today.
  4. I posted a big review of these games over a month ago: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=75188 Anyway, here's my synopsis: Millipede- not bad at all- actually pretty close to the arcade version, except the spiders have a tendency to "stop" and hesitate instead of constantly moving Super Breakout- not bad, with the game play options of the arcade, like progressive, cavity, etc. Just not as much fun to play without a paddle or analog control. Lunar Lander- again, not a bad version of the arcade game, and it's kind of neat to see another new release of this long forgotten game. Problem for me is, it was never a game that excited me. Centipede- what's going on with the graphics? The graphics look like the "updated" graphics from the Genesis version. This is fine if they would've included an original version, as well, but they didn't. In another weird twist, you can change the background of the playfield, to include the Centipede graphic from the arcade cabinet.... Why? I don't know... I also found it a little too easy, even at the harder level. You're better off with the Centipede from the Atari Anniversary collection for GBA. Breakout- not bad, but like Super Breakout, it's not alot of fun without a paddle controller. Like Centipede, you can change the background to an image of the Breakout cabinet artwork- isn't it hard enough to follow the ball without anything in the background? Warlords- the best of the 3 games on this cartridge, with nice graphics that are pretty close to the arcade version, including the grassy hills of the backdrop. Even without paddle or analog control, it's not too bad, and pretty easy to control your shots. My only complaint is that gameplay is not 100% accurate to the arcade- for example, when you kill an opponent, a new fireball is supposed to appear and enter into gameplay, and this doesn't always happen. New fireballs appear only when time goes by, and nobody is killed. I also suspect that collision detection is a little off, as I could swear on some occasions, that the ball didn't even completely enter the castle, and the warlord died. Still, it's the only portable version Warlords ever available (to my knowledge), so if you need a quick Warlords fix, it's not bad. Pong- what can I say- it's Pong. I do think it's a little more challenging that the "updated" Pong that was released for Game Boy Color a few years ago. On that one, I usually can beat the CPU at every game. This one is a little harder, and I haven't beat the computer yet. Again, a paddle controller is the best way to play Pong. Asteroids- not bad at all, close to the arcade, but if you already have the Atari Anniversary for GBA, you have a more accurate version of Asteroids already. Yar's Revenge- graphically, looks very close to the Atari 2600 version. There are only 3 gameplay options, and it plays pretty close to the original version. I found that it's fairly easy to avoid the "swirl" shot, though. Doesn't completely "feel" like the 2600 version, but pretty close, and it's fun. If you like Yar's, you'll probably like it as a substitute for the real thing, when you're on the road. Marble Madness- Looks good, but next to impossible to play without a trackball. Klax- Very good- but then again, it would be pretty hard to mess up Klax
  5. http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=I&game_id=8186 I always liked this one in the arcade
  6. "The Jerk" You could walk around in your underwear with your pants around your ankles, and try to collect as many things as possible.
  7. dittos on this one- to this day, after playing for awhile, it does seem almost 3D-like in it's appearance!
  8. Sneak N' Peek was a total surpise- I picked it up in the bargain bin at an electronics show at State Fair Park back in '83, and couldn't believe how "realistic" the graphics of the rooms of the house were! I also loved the bomb graphics of Kaboom! (the "shine" on the bombs and sparkling fuse). I love the car graphics (moving tires) of Grand Prix, and the alien detail of Demon Attack. Keystone Kapers and Pitfall also were impressive. However, Pitfall II was a total jaw-dropper with the many elements that I didn't expect (waterfalls, balloons, etc.)
  9. Congrats- now be careful... When you get your first coinop, the addiction is worse than crack! All of a sudden, you start thinking about all the other games you dreamed of having as a kid, and magically they seem to show up, just as your bank account empties out... I speak from experience- I got my first game- a Pac-Man at an auction in May 2004, and I now have 11 games. Thank God He blessed us with a bigger house this summer! Seriously, nice game and welcome to the club! I'm in the Milwaukee area, if you ever want to stop by and check out my arcade and console collection.
  10. Here's another point- what if you're buying the game as a gift for someone else... They're going to think it was a used game, instead of new.
  11. Like has been mentioned before, I think that they fell out of favor with many of the locations they used to be in. I never would see cocktail games at arcades in the early 80's, only full-size standup cabinets. However, Pizza Hut always had one or two cocktail games. Now, I don't see any games at all at Pizza Hut.
  12. I have one! I was thinking of selling it last year
  13. 1) Thief (would be a great one in keeping with Coleco's more-obscure arcade game library tradition- plus, it's a fun game, and I don't believe there's ever been a home version made) 2)Crystal Castles- would be fun to try with the Roller Controller 3)Pooyan (could be arcade-perfect on the CV!)
  14. I love Breakout-style games, so it's Off the Wall!
  15. I love Crystal Castles, Jr. Pac-Man, Millipede, Stargate and Joust for the 2600, but I have to go with Moon Patrol for sentimental reasons. I wanted this game so bad when it came out, and I got it for that Christmas (1983?), and was so excited I had to take a picture of it under the tree (I apparently got Bowling Spider-Man and a competition pro joystick that year, too)
  16. I was surprised to see one of these DK combo units right next to a Ms. Pac/Galaga inside Southridge Mall (in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin suburbs) by the food court. It is nice, but the monitor is so huge, it is fitted in on an angle, which gives it a different "feel" than the original DK machine. Also, it has Mario Bros playing on a vertical monitor, instead of the original horizontal, so it doesn't really look authentic. Don't get me wrong, I'd still love to have one of these, but would prefer the original machines
  17. I've never seen one yet, but I think Taito released a Space Invaders/Qix combo a couple years ago. It looks like a Space Invaders cabinet with some Qix graphics on it, as well.
  18. I have a problem with the bars as it caused burn-in on the screen of my 55" Samsung projection TV. I can't say this was from the Atari, as I had it set for widescreen when I plugged my 2600 in (I love the widescreen "stretch" effect for Megamania- even better when it's set to "panorama"- it gives you kind of a wraparound effect). The burn in was most likely from using my digital cablebox, which automatically shows 4:3 programming with the black bars on the sides, and widescreen broadcasts without the bars. Too much programming is still in 4:3 pan and scan format.
  19. This was tough- I love Adventure, but get a few people together for a round of Warlords- I can't think of one other classic or new game that is as much multiplayer fun
  20. I pretty much agree with everything you said- it's good to see somebody else who likes the Space Invaders stick. I would put the CORDLESS Ms. Pac as a must have since they fixed the control issues on Bosconian and Rally-X from the Pac-Man stick and included them on that stick, so you get 2 more games than the corded version of Ms. Pac, plus the freedom of no cords! I have the first Genesis one, and it's really hard to tell the games from the original games, so it's also a good one to have.
  21. Where are they being released this week? I check the websites for Target, K-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, EBgames, and there's no mention at all of the Flashback 2. Gamestop has it listed, but says 10/24 release date. What stores are you finding the FB2 in (besides Walmart)?
  22. I've always felt the same way- when it looked too complicated (and usually 50 cents a play), I figured I would just waste my money trying to figure out the controls and what to do, so I stopped and admired the game, and then moved on to Pac-Man and Galaga. I had to try Dragon's Lair when it came out, because everyone was trying it. After I lost my 50 cents in like 3 seconds flat, that was the end of it for me.
  23. Recently I won an auction for a Battlezone, but only needed the parts to help restore my Battlezone, so I drove out to the seller's house and gutted the cabinet. The cabinet is in great shape, and I still hope I did the right thing by just taking the parts and not the whole thing. Anyway, I drove out to the sellers house this weekend, since I also ended up buying a jukebox from him, and noticed the gutted BZ cabinet still there. He said it would probably just end up being burned. I can't stand the thought of this nice cabinet, an essential part of Atari history being destroyed. I know it's probably not an ideal cabinet for a MAME, but it would be a great replacement cabinet if you have a Battlezone in a crappy cabinet. Anyway, if anybody's interested in rescueing it from the bonfire, please call Tyler at (608)335-2579 He lives in Columbus, Wisconsin, near Beaver Dam, not too far from Milwaukee, Madison, or the Fox cities. Be sure to tell him Joe told you to call
