  1. Yes, that's what I remember. Haven't had a chance to dig it out yet though. Sent from my KB2005 using Tapatalk
  2. I do have one from back in the day. I need to dig through all my really old stuff and find that. I ran across the manual the other day. If I recall correctly, the one I had used a paddle-type of device with a dial BUT it was NOT based on the atari paddle controller, at least not cosmetically. The one I had looked completely different than an atari paddle. Will look for it and report back. Eric
  3. Well that will be a very welcomed port for Atari 8bits too... even if it's actually imagic of course!
  4. I think it's clear at this point that all those Activision games are terrific, and ANY off them would be welcomed with open arms for a Atari 8bit conversion/port. If spider fighter or sky jinks are the ones you are most comfortable tackling next, well those are both great games! Eric
  5. Could you list the ones you have done so far already? And are they all in one location available for download? Kaboom and Stampede are both really fun games. Actually, Dolphin and Sky Jinks are both a lot of fun too. Spider Fighter is really fun and challenging too. Seaquest is a good one, and I recently got the Skate Bordin cartridge and I had never played it before, but turns out it is a lot of fun too. You can't really go wrong with any of the Activision ports i think! Sorry, that probably doesn't help you narrow the field. There are many great ones!
  6. just played up to 13,980 where the icebergs start drifting apart. Much better on a system with a joystick vs. playing on my phone with Colleen. Not seeing any bugs so far. This one goes into the "quick fun games" keeper folder on my flash devices.
  7. Just played it quite a bit on Colleen. It's great. I love these kind of games! Really loved those straight-forward Activision games back in the day. The ones that make you play again and again and start hitting restart like a madman. This is definitely one of those. I made it to 7,350 and decided I love it enough to wait until I can play on my real a8 system with a proper joystick! Nice job. Eric Sent from my KB2005 using Tapatalk
  8. That's great!! Now if I can just remember how to logon and what my username is. Ha!
  9. With my boys both home for the holidays it was time for some M.U.L.E. action of course! Since we wanted to play with 3 human players, I got out my original 800 machine and a 1050 drive. Connected it to our big Visio TV in our living room through a Retrotink 2X PRO and were in business (and it looked fantastic too by the way). We discovered a very interesting, yet baffling, glitch though. With this set up, everything worked great. However, each time somebody would successfully catch the wampus, the screen would immediately glitch and lose HDMI signal completely! The screen would go black and then the TV gave the "no HDMI signal" message. Then after about 10 seconds or so, the signal would come back (on the main M.U.L.E. map screen) and we could just keep playing. We could consistently trigger this glitch. We caught the wampus about 8 times and it always resulted in this exact behavior! So weird. Has anyone else experienced this? Again, it was 800 (not XL), connected to Visio TV via a Retrotink 2X PRO, running M.U.L.E. Cool to stumble on such a glitch like this, but also disappointing that we never got to see the wampus screen because it always instantly blanked out whenever we would catch him! 10. I don't think there is any real value in debating DOS varieties in terms of "what is best". Largely it will depend on what you used back in the day. And also what you personally do or don't do when YOU use the system. And beyond that individual perspective and need, it also depends on what each person is doing in any specific instance. I love MyDos. I know it really well and it's what I used most of the time as a kid. But I'm usually fine with Dos 2.5 most of the time too. And DOS XL is fine too if that's what is already on a disk. Spartados is great and can no doubt "do more" and be more flexible, but it's overkill in a lot of situations. I think Dos XL is also really flexible but usually more that needed too, at least in my most common use cases. I just think it's great the Atari 8 bits had so many high quality DOS options too choose from. I don't think trashing any of them is really warranted either.
  11. Yeah I know. I'm just shocked it is still a thing it seems. That's the surprising part to me.
  12. I just got a new email about this. I guess this endeavor is actually still alive. https://mailchi.mp/b40d4975f59f/2021-the-year-the-future-became-the-present?e=34f6384e9a Sent from my KB2005 using Tapatalk
  13. Awesome! We might start to take Altirra for granted, but we should all stop to consider just how fortunate we are in the Atari community to have such a world class (the Gold standard amongst ALL 8bit emulators perhaps?) emulator and debugger at our disposal. It's amazing to step back and consider that.
  14. Check the solder joints on those long elbow shaped leads for the power switch to the board, and also for the power connector, etc. I read that solder joint cracks at those locations can be a common issue is XF551 drives and might just need to be reflowed. In my case, when I was checking for that I actually determined the power switch itself had worn out and needed to be replaced completely though. Worth checking, just to rule out something simple like connector joints. Sent from my KB2005 using Tapatalk
  15. Does the light come on and does it spin when powered up? I had one that suffered intermittent issues and it turned out to be a bad power switch of all things. I replaced the switch and all has worked perfectly ever since.
  16. Ghost Chaser is a good one! ZOMBIES, especially if you want 2 player interaction. Also known as Realm of Impossibility. Great fun. Necromancer, still at the top of my favorites list regardless of genre or theme. Perfect for Halloween though! And if you still have never discovered the hidden Halloween theme buried in War Room. Just hit 'H' on the title screen (or help key, or spacebar) and it will give you a bunch of added Halloween-themed characters to choose from. Also has a very compelling 2 player mode.
  17. Just played the game myself "for Atari" for the first time, using Altirra for now. I played in both NTSC and in PAL mode. It's beautiful, and exactly the behavior and game-play mechanics expected that was such a hallmark of the Jordan Mechner games back in the day. The music and sound is terrific, and the title screen is icing on the cake. Not to mention that impressive intro while loading. Wonderful job, and it's great to see this on Atari finally. And so perfectly implemented too. Can't wait to try it out on my real hardware later. -Eric
  18. Thanks for posting. Already have all of those it seems though. Does this person have any other stuff left? If they are in your area, well, then they are in my area too of course! Eric
  19. Awesome. Truly appreciated. The community will get lots of mileage out of this!
  20. Just gave Return of the Fungi a quick go in Altirra and it's really fun. I love the music and sound fx, they really enhance the game. I plan to play this one much more to see where it goes.
  21. yes!!! Sent from my KB2005 using Tapatalk
  22. I know I had actually purchased this back in the day from Antic thinking I would set up my own BBS using this BBCS software, but I wound up going a different path and never actually used it. That said, somewhere down the line those disks seem to have disappeared. Anyway, great you were able to archive an original set! -Eric
