  1. I guess Frank is an Atari employee (subsidiary.). lots of good talks from him regarding software preservation. Short Blurb from VICE His GDC talk (sequel) to the previous, “It’s Just Emulation” Video Games History Foundation (What they do)
  2. I used to always do this math for Board Game purchases, video games, etc. if I was willing to pay $10 for an 1.5 hours of movie entertainment, and I expected to play a $50 video/board game for 8 hours (minus grinding or setup, Ie the non-entertaining portions of a game), then the game was worth it. Plus I have something physical that could be resold at a later date, so the cost is actually less. Game have gotten considerably cheaper over the years. I remember paying about $70 for SFII: Turbo for SNES. In inflation adjusted dollars that game would be $150. I hardly buy any games these days with all the free ones given away each week on Epic, Amazon Prime, GoG.
  3. I personally take offense to Nintendo's direct lies in its Gameboy manuals, and on their website. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/55888/~/intellectual-property-%26-piracy-faq Especially, when they appear to be breaking the law according to themselves. 14:20 mins in https://youtu.be/HLWY7fCXUwE?si=WVRZOiOYPWlSSRrD&t=860
  4. March 4-10: Didn't play much of anything this week. I blame Daylight Savings Time. Android: RB College - 80 min
  5. @Living Room Arcade, yes the Atari 800 version is excellent, and complete different from this Atari 2600 version. The VCS version is missing the fuel gauge, and the blaster heat gauge. (Also missing the docking sequence with the mother-ship). I cannot say I am impressed with any of the three games this week.
  6. Sorry, should have been more clear. I just played those in the past, so I downloaded a handful of other free games options and actual played Reign3K. No additional time to log. Might as well include some screenshots from Retro Bowl College, S22. Truly awful results. 3 losses. A QB with only a 76% completion rate, 9 intercepts and 7 sacks.. Average yardage for my WRs was also additional low. I did recruit an OL star player, which is one of the more useless positions.
  7. My times for Feb 27-Mar 3: I meant to include screenshots from my horrible RB College PostSeason figures, but those screenshots are on another phone. I might include them later. I have been tracking stats from season to season since S11 and game to game since about S17, just for fun. Started a new free game from Netflix offered on Android/iOS. I really liked the TMNT Shredders Revenge beat’um up, and the Into the Breach strategy game. Reigns3K gameplay seems a bit random so far. The object is to not have any of your 4 gauges fill up, or your citizens revolt and kill you. So far I haven’t figured out how to predict which of your two answers will likely make a gauge increase. Android RB College - 10 min Reigns3K - 45 min Atari 2600 (Stella) Jaw Breaker - 15 min Robot Tank - 15 min River Patrol - 10 min Threshold - 15 min
  8. Reminds me of the card game Management Material, a game where you play excuse cards to prevent working on projects and getting promoted into middle management. Specifically the lower left card, “Called in Dead.”
  9. Gravitar Recharged Free with Prime
  10. Looking forward to these weeks of HSC. Used to love playing Threshold for a800, I’d don’t know it had been ported to the 2600 until years later.
  11. @Vocelli, my bonus was miscalculated. Should be +4 instead of +1 (Total=276) As per these screenshots.
  12. They just don’t have the money. I cannot see the cost of an engineer (Software, Mechanical, Electrical) being less than $150,000, and more than likely being in the $250,000 range). The Emotion Engine (PS2) required a team of 200 engineers, so I don’t see Sega designing some new CPU architecture. I imagine even the Sega Mini 1/2 costs for engineering and actual hardware would have had serious financial costs (I realize Sega likely did multiple runs only when the original stock was sold out), where as Sony can completely botch sits PS1 Mini and write off those losses as almost nothing. Sega Mini 1 ($80 MSRP), 1.5 million siold, likely BOM costs 1/4 $20*1.5 mil = $30 million (6% of all Earnings) Sega Sammy Hokdings: Revenue : $3,310 million Earnings : $480 million Sony : $88,460 million Earnings : $7,760 million Nintendo : $11,970 million Earnings : $4,810 million
  13. Feb 19-25: Just the normal a2600 HSC gaming and RB College. Not sure why I am playing so badly at RB College this 20th season, but the year isn’t going well. I have a Senior QB, with decent stats, but I threw over 7 interceptions so far, got sacked twice, and my newer WR have a couple of fumbles. Current record is 7:3, where I normally only lose at most one game a season. Played a little Pico-8 gaming to distract myself from a lack of progress on my game, but not enough time on any single game worth tracking. Android RB College - 93 min Atari 2600 (LegendsFB) Dark Cavern - 60 min Tutankhaman - 60 min Robot Tank - 95 min
  14. The rules say cannot use same game, not the same bad a** machine. No one mentioned Phoenix yet.. So, which is it? (Game, Machine)
  15. I used to be able to just hang out at the left:right robot spawners and rack up 3k/5k at a time. I guess I am out of practice. Still, improvement. 200k+ 250k
  16. A UFO, Laser Blast !!!!!! The aliens get their revenge.
  17. I cannot say I have played much C64, as most of my exposure to 8-bit computer games came from Atari 800. Most of the time, alternate (and may times superior) ports exist on other platforms. Still, some people have compiled lists over the years. From those lists these seem the most appropriate. Space Taxi: Highly ranked exclusive (until the a800 homebrew gets released) Great Giana Sisters: Appropriate because the lawsuit for ripping off SMB. Maniac Mansion: Ported everywhere, but probably the best on C64. International Karate +: Last Ninja Depending upon how much keyboard controls are necessary, some strategy games might be good. Defender of the Crown
  18. Feb 12-18: Didn’t get much time this week to play games. Returned to working on writing a Pico-8 game. I started this over a year ago (but really have only worked for a couple weeks on it), but keep switching between 2600 ASM / bBasic and Pico-8 development, as well as splitting time between 3 different games I’m working on. I work on small parts of the game like general flow-control, small bits of gameplay, and making bits look nice. Probably need to reevaluate the development process to actually start making progress (Ie make sure the fundamental game loop is working first, and build from there). Android RB College - 102 min Atari 2600 (Stella 6.7.1) HSC Dark Cavern - 30 min River Raid - 60 min Tutankhaman - 30 min
  19. CapitanClassic Tutankham G1 (B/B) - 1762 Dark Cavern G1 (A/B) - 100k+
  20. Still haven’t hooked up the LegendsFB Capitan Classic - 68,100 River Raid (1-life) - 23,160
