I have a VIC-20 that doesn’t show characters. It used to show them once the computer warmed up, albeit still not perfectly. 
 

Now it just shows the cursor. The cursor does move as I type. 

Pin Ball cartridge is included as well as a power supply and RF box. I also have a C64 guide to throw in, if interested.

- No optical drive.

- I was tearing the case down because you could see all the dust behind the translucent plastic parts but one bolt is stripped so I didn't finish that.

- I was able to run Tiger on it earlier this year but now it won't boot, so I'm guessing the hard drive finally died.

[800xl upgrades?]

I had an 800XL and a XEGS and I say stick with the 800XL. 
 

The XEGS does not need the DIN cable for composite video and audio, since it has the RCA jacks on it. Built in Missile Command is neat. 
 

The 800XL is just as capable and takes up less space. 
 

One interesting thing is the keyboard. I was not a fan of the keyboard on the XEGS but I’ve seen PS/2 adapters on eBay for it. So if you already need a new keyboard that’s an option on the XEGS. 

 

Funny enough I don’t have either anymore but I just got a 5200.

It’s great as a self contained VR system. My eyes aren’t exactly on any of the three IPD settings so I have to get used to it if I haven’t put it on recently.

It’s great for games where your standing and moving around.

I intend to keep my HP Reverb G2 headset for my PC. That works great for simulators where you’re seated.
