  1. I just got my 130XE back from 800_Rocks.  He did a full inspection of the board, installed a UAV, fixed the color pot, and cleaned up the keyboard.  It's better than new!  I recommend him with the utmost confidence.

  2. I have four flash carts here for sale

NES and Famicom version of the OG Everdrive N8 (not the PRO version) $100 each

    Uno Cart 2600 $40

    PSIO w/ switchboard for PS1 $100

No SD cards will be included.

If you buy the NES, Famicom, and PSIO, I'll throw in the Uno Cart for free.

Shipping from Durham, NC to the continental USA only.

  3. I bought an 800XL from 800_Rocks and we also organized a trade wherein I now have a fully working 600XL.  It was a great experience, he's a very cool guy and I would 100% recommend him to anyone who wants an Atari computer.  Don't take the risk on ebay, buy from someone who knows what they have and what they're doing.

Then there are a good few free ported games too available for free to download.

What A8 do you have and is it stock?

I use the Mister core for my A8bit.

Since my unfortunate Goldstar doesn't read copies i planed to buy japanese version FZ10. From the visual side, it's the model I like the most. Can i play my backups with japanese version and whether there is any restriction for the regions? Is it a good choice?

As long as you use good quality CD-Rs and burn them at an appropriate rate (which varies by disc, newer ones do better at higher speeds) and the drive is in good shape, a Japanese FZ-10 should be able to play any Japanese and North American game.  Some PAL games won't work on an NTSC system, but the only one I know for certain is Wolfenstein 3D.

  6. Is anyone else experiencing an issue with the 7800 core where bringing up the OSD makes the entire screen go black?  It only happens over analog video for me over both 15 KHz component and 31 KHz VGA, it doesn't happen over HDMI.

I think you might be out of touch with modern flat panel displays, and I don't mean the cheap Walmart ones either. Mid to higher end ones are vastly superior to a CRT on soooo many levels.

I use the retrotink 5x with a 65" HDR+/Dolby 4k 120hz VRR QLED TV... my 20" CRT is never gonna compare to sitting in my living type-of-experience, that friends can also enjoy as well. I use the 20" CRT from time to time, for that old aesthetics, but the retrotink 5x is just soo much more convenient.. especially when I'm sitting like 6 feet away from the screen - instead of huddled up against the 20" CRT.

Agreed.  This past week I just got rid of my three 20+ inch CRT sets because the RT5X works so well.  Modern flat panels are so much better than they were even a decade ago, I remember the lag on my parents' old Sony Bravia was palpable when I hooked anything up to it.  The 4K LG I have now never has a problem syncing with odd refresh rates and has less than a frame of lag.

I've reached the point where large CRTs are too much of a burden to keep around, especially if you're not comfortable with opening them up for maintenance.  I'm keeping the handful of 13/14 inchers I have for my desk.

The high price was an unfortunate side effect to how the 3DO ecosystem was structured. 3DO made money off licensing fees from game sales. Because they didn't need to offset the cost of console production, they could keep these fees low and attract more software developers. Panasonic did not make money off of games, at least at the beginning. Because of this, at launch they needed to make their entire profit off of hardware sales. Because the system was somewhat impressively spec'd for the time, that also meant it was expensive to manufacture. And since Panasonic had to make back the cost of the system plus profits, it made it unfortunately expensive.

As time went on, Panasonic started publishing games and took a cut of those sales. Combined with cost cutting of the hardware itself, it became much more reasonably priced. Goldstar also published games to offset the cost of the systems, getting their systems down to $299! But by this time, the PS1 had already taken the market by storm.

A recent example of a similar product that ended similarly was Valve's Steam Machines. Valve didn't subsidize the cost of the systems, so each manufacturer had to make their entire profit from the sale of the system itself. They were priced at or above equivalent PCs because of this and they didn't sell very well. Pretty much the same story as 3DO, but Valve has enough money to just keep going and try again.

3DO did go on to develop the M2 and Panasonic learned from their mistakes, purchasing the rights to the M2 so they could both publish the games and produce the console. Unfortunately, they cancelled the project before coming to the home market.

This is the answer.  You can close the thread now.

  9. The original NHL Faceoff for PS1 is probably my favorite.  It has a 3D rink, but the players are all scaling 2D sprites.  It's the best of both worlds, you get a good vantage point, responsive controls, and easily distinguishable players.

The only flaw is that it came out in 1995 so it doesn't have the Hurricanes.

This pestered me a few times over the years until I found my answer.

NeoGeo AeroFighters3/SonicWing3 -> in EU region it's much much harder than US and JP

I got bitten on BananaCart+UniBIOS on NeoSD and now on Mister till I found a page describing how export games on NeoGeo were usually harder (apparently in JP renting was illegal but not so in EU/US so by making the game harder you would not finish it in one seating .....).

Anyhow Mister defaults to EU in the NeoGeo core but via UniBIOS once set to US or JP the game AeroFighters3/SonicWing3 does not kick my ass on the very first level .... it makes it for a good gym though, if you learn to survive once you switch region is piece-of-cake.

    https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/AeroFighters quotes
"Difficulty by Region: For some reason, Aero Fighters 3 is locked to the hardest difficulty level when played on the European BIOS."

This one puzzled me for years, I believe due to me sometimes playing on real AES with unibios but no memcard and so default region US (my default AES region) but with memcard + Unibios setting save at region EU (no "winners don't do drug" stuff + english, hence why I thought it was a good idea). My AES also has a physical language switch, I am sure I must have played in JP as well which makes the game also easier without me connecting the dots.

I've never realized it 'till much much recently, like 3 days ago (I just recently setup my Mister that I bought like last year).
With the NeoSD can't remember, I just complained on the neo-geo.com forum that the game was too hard when played on it, likely playing EU as well, will have to try again but on Mister the difference is just so freaking obvious (even the gfx changes from flags to airplanes or viceversa on the selection screen between EU/US).

I'm sure many more games have this differences, but for NeoGeo is somewhat surprising as all versions are in the same "cart" so to speak vs released specifically after localization .....

On other news Jotego released many new CPS2 cores (that were so far only for patreons I guess) .... like 3 or 4 days ago .... mmmmhhhh yummy!!

How do you change the region to Japan?  Whenever I start a Neo Geo game, the bios screen says the region is Europe and I don't see an option to change it.

Also, did the AES see a release in Europe or did it only get the MVS cabinets?
