Can any Atari emulator talk to real SIO devices?
gozar replied to TheMontezuma's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
How do you do the keyboard? I think that cable connected to the parallel port. Yep! -

One roller and one rubber please!

I wouldn't worry about it, the 800XL is the most popular 8-bit, I believe, so it would have the most questions. Plus there is a good chance it shipped with the ingot power supply, which doesn't help.

I'm in for one.

I'd be interested in options 2 or 3.

Over-volting protection and alternative PSUs
gozar replied to tech6's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
A lot of people use a 5V USB adapter that outputs at least 1.5A. I cut off the 7-pin DIN from a few Ingot power supplies to use in the future to make some USB power cables for the Atari. C64 is a difficult beast, since it requires DC and AC from the power supply. -
1088XEL Atari ITX Motherboard Pre-order & Interest Thread

I'm in for one assembled, mainly because I'm too wussy to assemble one myself. :-) -
XEL-CF Compact Flash Adapter for 1088XEL (formerly XEL-I3)

I took the case off of the Side2 I use with my 1200XL. It’s not the best solution, but it works well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
What Atari games have the most satisfying ending to them?
gozar replied to kiwilove's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Goonies! I think we had to use a cheat to get through it, but the ending scene was worth it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
That's the way mine works, it selects a cart to boot on start up. I have no idea how it selects each cart. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What's the best way to set up Mad Pascal under Windows 10? Can I just put it in the path?

Lack of 80 columns was huge for me when I started college in fall of '87. That and good VT100 emulation. Most work was done on the IBM mainframe and Vax, which I couldn't access very well. The Chameleon terminal emulator was passable, and I would have killed for Ice-T then. AtariWriter was awesome though, and guys from my freshman corridor wrote papers on my 800XL in AtariWriter. Two years later and I'm taking a 1040ST to college, Uniterm was the bomb on the monochrome monitor, 132x49 FTW!

Favorite Operating Systems of all time?
gozar replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
10.5 was the last version that ran on the PPC macs. -
Like Bill said, companies at the time didn't really know how to market computers and were trying anything. Atari had a chance, since in '79 the Apple ][+ was a joke compared to the 400 or 800. They would have owned the education market if they would have pushed at all. But, Atari needed to lower the production costs of the 8-bit line. The 1000X concept drawings look fantastic, but Atari went with the 1200XL instead. And the 1200XL suffered from two flaws: lack of 80 columns and no PBI. If the 1200XL would have launched with 80 columns and a PBI, it would have smoothed over the issues with compatibility since the newer machine added capabilities over the 800. This enhanced version of the 1200XL would have competed favorably against the Apple //e that was being released with 80 columns. With such a machine, Atari could have competed well in the education sector and the business sector. The final piece would have also been released in '83, and that is Action!. What would have happened if Atari built Action! into the 1200XL (Basic would still be available as a cartridge)? How could the Apple //e compete with such a system?

Plus, with the U1M, you can load Deluxe Invaders into one of the ROM slots and always be ready to play. -
Hello! (and a question on archiving floppies)
gozar replied to jczarn's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
You can also get an FTDI breakout board and some header wires and create your own for under $5. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/182392-sio2usb-with-a-ftdi-basic-breakout-board/ Use RespeQT for the software on the computer end. -
Yeah, most people around here called them tapes, starting with the 2600. Even when the NES was released people called the games tapes. Cartridge must have been a tough word to say for people in the early 80s. :-)

I know this was brought up earlier in the thread, but now that the XEL-CF is pretty much finalized, my question is, will it work on U1M machines such as my 800XL? I dislike the SIDE2 taking up a cartridge slot...

I second this. I used the UAV to add SVideo to a 600XL, and the output looks as good as what I get from my VBXE -> GBBS8220. My 7800 needs me to get around to installing it next...

I'm never the one to stop beating a dead horse.... Tonight I dug out my original copy of Rescue on Fractalus: And booted it up on my Incognito 800 that has never (to my knowledge) had anything ever done to the video, and here's what I get on my Commodore 1702: Exactly as I remember, goldish characters on a brownish background.

Do a search in the forum the the UAV.
