  1. She does have a fan. I will make sure to see if it's functioning. I'm in the process of trying to locate another person who does console repairs. I appreciate your help. I'll probably end up opening the unit again, taking pictures, and posting this in another section for further assistance. In the meantime, anyone who comes across a replacement motherboard for this model, in good or better condition, please let me know.
  2. The tech is out today, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to follow up with any questions. Their communication hasn't been good and I'm thinking they charged me too much for the replacement laser and installation. I don't even know if they have the tools to test the motherboard and power supply components. Since the laser has been replaced, I'm wondering if it's worth swapping out the power supply unit with another. I know you're not offering any services but it would be nice if I had someone who could teach me about this stuff in person.
  3. I read that thermal pads very rarely dry out and need to be replaced. I'm certainly no expert on this topic, though. Ultimately, I'd have to bring it to someone else for repair or part replacement. I don't think I'm qualified to do this work. Keep in mind, this is a very recent development (December, 2023). In my 23+ years of owning this console, the only issue I ever experienced was trouble with the laser lens reading scratched discs and blue discs. I cannot recall any instances of being concerned about the console's temperature. Maybe it is overheating and I simply didn't notice it. A simple reset or power cycle has not solved the issue. The first time this happened, I had been playing for 5-6 hours. The system hard locked and the Reset button did nothing. I was forced to power cycle it. When I did, it immediately struggled to load the startup screen. The video ended up freezing but I can't remember if the audio continued to play. I tried two or three games (no previous issue with their condition and the system reading them) and saw similar results. At that point, I was pretty quick to turn the system off and take it to the tech shop. The second instance, I had only been playing for 2-3 hours and got the same symptoms. Turned it off and took it back to the shop. The owner thought the laser might need to be adjusted. They replaced the laser lens with another brand new one and tested a bunch of different discs for 5-10 minutes but saw no issues. I took it home and played it for two hours. Happened again. I haven't played it since. Sometimes, I was able to reset the system and sometimes I had to power cycle. If the tech is only checking to make sure the system boots up, reads all discs, and only playing them for a few minutes, then I'm guessing this is not sufficient to check for overheating. I appreciate your responses. What's your recommendation for my next step?
  4. The repair shop never mentioned this as a possible issue with mine. Not upon the initial diagnostic, replacement of laser lens, or testing of different discs. Nor was it discussed for the follow-up diagnostic, switching out with another brand new laser lens, and further disc testing when I came back to them about the freezing/hard lock issues. From the start, the tech seemed to think it was either the laser lens or the GPU, based on the symptoms. As far as I know, nor the capacitors or the thermal pads have ever been replaced. I'm the original owner and I don't recall any issues of overheating. I've read that fat PS2s (perhaps this specific model) are very heat-tolerant.
  5. I've been told that the GPU might be dying on my PS2. It's a US launch version (SCPH-30001). Initially, it had some trouble reading discs back in December. I had the laser (KHS-400B) replaced and that definitely improved/sped up reading of the discs. However, I soon noticed that I could now only play it for 2-3 hours before the game and system would freeze/hard lock on me. I have done some Google searches today but wasn't able to locate any. If anyone has one or knows where I can get one, then please let me know.
  6. Savage is the one who hit him with the scepter and that's what cost The Ultimate Warrior the title. Savage was pissed that he wasn't given a title shot. I'm not sure Slaughter had anything to do with Savage's actions. With much of the world caught in the throes/aftermath of The Gulf War, Slaughter became an Iraqi "sympathizer". There was no WWF wrestler more American than Hogan, so it was the right call.
  7. This was my first purchase from an AtariAge member. I bought a used NES controller. JrPac had never used it but was kind enough to test it out for me before I purchased it. He also sent me some additional pictures and provided me the tracking number. Shipping took a bit longer because USPS neglected to pick up the package at first. It arrived this afternoon. Played a few games and it works well. Happy with the price, the condition of the controller, and the way that JrPac communicated with me. Recommended. I'd do business with him again.

  9. What's it gonna take for the MAME development team to make fixing the audio issues with The Simpsons Bowling a priority?
  10. @Tafoid You fix The Simpsons Bowling yet?
  11. 1. Practice the bonus stages. At the completion of each one, you'll receive 500 points for each ninja you killed. This is in addition to what you get for each real time kill. Those points add up. 2. The prize for completing Bonus Stage 3 is the Flying Squirrel Magic. It's the most important Ninja Magic in the game. Most likely, you will need it to make the final jump in 4-2. It is doable without Ninja Magic but it's a pain in the ass due to how inconsistent the controls feel when making edge jumps. 3. Sacrifice extra lives on the first three forms of the final boss until your last life. Each form is worth 10,000 points. You earn an extra life for every 100,000 points. You lose all of your extra health and subweapon upon death, so the Masked Ninja can be quite tricky in bare bones battles. Basically, don't die and earn as many points as you can so that you have lots of extra lives to sacrifice on the final boss. Easier said than done, no doubt. It takes quite a bit of practice.
  12. @Tafoid Have you fixed the audio issues for The Simpsons Bowling?
  13. It's a cowardly, self-involved, indifference to the whole matter. I prefer the company of people who enjoy looking out for their fellow man. Not everyone has the wisdom, hopefully, gained from experience. People who enjoy marking up their products to an astronomical price aren't helping and deserve to be called out when they do. There's more to life than free enterprise and money. A lot more.
  14. Bummer. I've been in contact with a user on YouTube about this problem. Keep in mind, I'm not the least bit knowledgeable on the hows and whys for this subject, nor do I pretend to be. Back in March of 2021, I uploaded the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XPQ7sqiaSA Most of the time, I would not hear these audio clips when playing the game on MAME (the versions I've used, at least). However, many years ago, I remember selecting Krusty and hearing voice work that I had never heard before. I've no idea what I did to trigger it and I was not able to duplicate it back then. Fast forward to the above link when I started fiddling around with the timing of selecting my player. Lo and behold, I was able to get most of the voice work for the character select screen to play. So, this other user on YouTube started leaving comments on my video and I'm going to share them with you. Perhaps this will be of some help: "From having seen actual hardware exhibit issues in not playing voice clips, i'm pretty sure the voice clips are on the game disc and not in ROM. I even gave a proper dump of the game disc to the MAME devs. Granted you're using an old version of MAME so i don't know if they fixed any of the issues with the voice clips not playing in newer versions of MAME." "the MAME dev got digital 573 DDR mixes to run properly. 573 and Baby Viper are the same except for the CD drive, they're both PS1 based" "If they got digital DDR mixes to run then they should have gotten Simpsons Bowling to properly stream its voice clips from the CD." "And to add on top of this, i had the chance to try out the emulated version found on the Arcade1Up Simpsons cabinet and it plays all the sound clips as they should!" "Just tested with the latest version of MAME and still the same thing. Voice clip in the character select screen then it ignores all access to the CD. I found the APK's that the Arcade1Up cabinet uses since Simpsons Arcade is Android based...It literally uses MAME but that version of MAME had to have been modified to get all the sound clips to play properly during gameplay." "The other day i even found a program that was able to read the .PCM files that are on the game disc and i extracted all of the voice clips from the game. And just for fun i even was able to read the CARD.DAT file found on the DDR discs and found all of the DDR announcer voice clips. Meaning i was right, Baby Phoenix and Konami 573 are similar except for their CD drives as one uses SCSI and the other uses IDE"
  15. @Tafoid Have you guys fixed the audio issue(s) with The Simpsons Bowling?
