Thanks for supporting Pitkat! By purchasing the box and manual you have supported us already.

The game uses a HMOVE trick that can cause problems with some 7800s. It can be tricky to know which variant of 7800 you have.

For my 7800, I had to perform the "clip C64" mod, to make some homebrews work. It involves cutting one leg off the Capacitor #64. Some 7800s have a timer circuit added to the circuit board to help support some games which weren't quite compatible with the 7800. Some 7800s don't have the circuit at all, so should be OK. Only way to know is crack it open and have a look.

I've never experienced any problems running any 2600 or 7800 homebrews in my 7800. The sticker on the bottom has printed:

    Mark,

That's all you need to do, thanks for the order!

The 7800 is a bit of a finicky beast at times, and every now and then someone has an issue with a specific game and their 7800.  Usually if I replace a cartridge it will then work fine on that 7800, but sometimes a system will be more stubborn.  I wouldn't worry about it, and if there is a problem, I'll gladly help you out with it.

    Al,

Thanks. Personally I've never had a game for the 2600 or 7800 not work in my 7800. Oh, I've had the occasional times when I'd start a game and it wouldn't come up properly, but as you mentioned turning the system off, pulling the cartridge out and then reseating it, and turning the system back on does the trick. I bought my 7800 when it was new. Now the 2600 Jr. is a different kettle of fish. I have two and both have switches that have gone bad. Hence why I use my 7800 so much (usually with a Genesis Controller; w/Seagul 78 Control Adapter on games for the 7800). I rarely use my 7800 PainLine Controllers, so one is like new and the other has never been used.

For those of you who would like to order a physical cartridge of one of the Pitkat roms, the Atari Custom Cartridge service is available.

    Please follow this link:

    https://atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=949

Make sure to tick the Melody board option, Pitkat needs that. Once the order is placed, send an email to sales@atariage.com with a copy of which binary file you wish to use of Pitkat (see top of forum for the binaries). Include the reference for your order number when sending the email. Also, be sure to choose if you are using NTSC (North America), PAL50(EU, UK, Australia) or PAL60(EU, UK, Australia - may not work on all PAL TVs - check before ordering with a Harmony/Pluscart/Unocart).

With the binaries, there is also a choice of which software revision you wish to use - Version 2 or Version 3. There are slight graphical differences between them.

Version 2 - The most commonly known release. It has small gaps between tiles. AKA "gapped tile" version.

Version 3 - Updated graphics kernel so the gaps between tiles are removed.  AKA "gapless tile" version.

I, Marco Johannes, give my permission to create Pitkat carts using this service for personal use. The cost of the service is to cover the production cost of the game cartridge by Atariage.

    Cheers - Marco

    Marco,

I've ordered a Custom 2600 Cart w/Melody Board and included a note for ROM Version 3. At the same time I ordered the box and manual. Is that all that I need to do?

I play all of my 2600 games on a 7800. Someone posted about a problem with their 7800 playing Pitkat. Is that a common problem? I've also sent a note to Al about this order and asking him for contact info so that I can donate money to this project (unless it's no longer needed).

Opcode Games entered into agreement with the current rights holder of the Coleco name so that he could produce a complete in box product with the name “Coleco” on it.  The use of the “Super Game Module” name for his product wasn’t necessary, but it is a very nice and nostalgic touch.

Between the Opcode SGM and bank-switching cartridge PCBs that are widely used now to break the 32K cart size barrier, you basically get what Coleco had proposed back in 1983. Albeit, a lot more reliable than using stringy tape cassettes.

Thanks for the detailed information. I greatly appreciate.

Now all I need is $750.

I'm out of ColecoVision cartridge circuit boards at the moment.  We're working on a newer board and once we've tested it and order a larger production run the ColecoVision games will all be back in the store.

Thanks for the info Al. That's a worry off my mind.

  6. I've got a ColecoVision coming my way, so I've been wanting to order come homebrews for this system. However it doesn't seem to be possible any longer at the AtariAge Store. When I click on a title I can see the info for it, including cost and so forth, but there's no option to add these games to my Shopping Cart. Furthermore, while there is a link to click to add each of these games in my Wishlist, when I click on it nothing happens. What's going on?

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place, but this was the closest appropriate place that I could find.

Someone local to me has a 5200 with 2 sets of the wico with keypads. He wants 350 Canadian for everything though. I'm not a 5200 guy but that seems pricey to me

    Screenshot_20200524-084720_Facebook.jpg

That's approx. $250 U.S. Dollars. Two sets of wico controllers make it a bit tempting, but I currently don't have that kind of money laying around. :(

  8. I've really been wanting an Atari 5200, but what has held me back are the controllers with their infamous poor build quality. I've done some searching online and found a couple of alternatives. Forgive me if their old news, but I think that it'd be great if these were offered for sell through the AtariAge Store. Not as kits but fully built and ready to use.

    Alternative 1

    RetroRGB Controller

It looks nice, but what's the build quality like? It appears that this controller can be purchased either in kit form or ready to use.

    Alternative 2

Atari Jaguar to 5200 Conversion Controller

Looks comfy. I've always liked the Jaguar Controller, and $89.99 seems like a reasonable price.

Which of these Controllers is best? Can't these controllers be offered via the AtariAge Store?

    Hello all !

Here is a new homebrew game I made for the Atari 2600 that I named THE END 2600.
It is based on the 1980 Konami version of the arcade game THE END.

    ** DEC 16 2019 UPDATE **

** THE END 2600 IS COMPLETE AND FINISHED **

** ATTACHED YOU WILL FIND THE FINISHED VERSIONS OF THIS GAME IN NTSC AND PAL60 **

    ** JAN 14 2020 UPDATE **

    ** INSTRUCTIONS FILE ATTACHED **

    OBJECTIVE:
To destroy aliens attempting to steal bricks from your 3 defense bases.
The aliens will arrange stolen bricks to spell out  "END" at the top of the screen.

Use your joystick to move your spaceship left of right and press the button to fire to the aliens.

    THE POINTS:
Each alien destroyed scores 40, 60 or 100 points.
Destroying aliens carrying a stolen brick scores double.
Destroying MotherShip scores 10 to 100 points. That same amount will be awarded as bonus for each brick needed to complete the word "END"

    ANOTHER DETAILS:

You start the game with 3 spaceships.
An extra ship will be awarded when you reach 5,000 points.

Game is over when all your spaceships are destroyed or "END" is spelled out by the aliens.

Each level is represented by a "wave".
Every 5 "waves", the MotherShip will come down to attack your spaceship. If you destroy it, a "round" of 5 "waves" will be completed.
When a new "round" begins, the aliens with have to start spelling "END" all over again.

** USE OF THE LEFT DIFFICULTY SWITCH **

** A = ADVANCED  - GAME STARTS WITH 6 ALIENS AND FASTER ALIEN BULLETS **

** B = BEGINNERS - GAME STARTS WITH 3 ALIENS AND SLOW ALIEN BULLETS **

The game is complete and fully playable.
It has 40 levels and is fast and very challenging.

The game is not exactly in graphics as the arcade version but the gameplay is. Also I have added some animations that are not in the arcade.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it !
Please tell me your feedback about the game and let me know if the game is too easy or too hard or if you find any bugs in the game.

Let's see those high scores !!

  11. Yep, the software in the cartridge controls the scanline count and refresh rate, which is different for NTSC(262 at 60Hz) and PAL(312 @ 50Hz). Its possible your display can handle it, my C=1084S does just fine, though it seems that most TVs in the US end up rolling the picture. You won't know without trying (something a Harmony Cart would be useful for).

The colors, on the other hand, will not be correct as they depend upon the hardware in the console and the colors they generate are different. My Atari NTSC vs PAL vs SECAM page covers this.

AtariAge does have a number of PAL -> NTSC and NTSC -> PAL conversions, I see Acid Drop but not Meteor Defense.

I'll take a look at your link after I go into some details about Meteor Defense. It is a Horizontal Scrolling shooter. It was released in various PAL territories under various titles by various publishers. Besides Meteor Defense it was released as Missile War, War 2000, Astrowar, etc. I've built up 20 extra lives on several occasions, but it's easy to loose them in batches. A fellow member at http://highscore.com submitted a play video, which is in color, played on actual hardware. And he's in California! Anywho, here's his play video:

  12. Last night I ordered an Atari 2600 Custom Cartridge from Atari Age. This was after reading the description for it, because It appears that you can order a reproduction of a rare game with the original artwork, with added text saying "Reproduction Cartridge." This is fine for me because I only want to be able to play games on actual Atari hardware that I would never be able to afford otherwise. And I don't much like Everdrives.

Before getting to the PAL question, the rare game that I wish to have a reproduction of is Demolition Herby. It's like Amidar and Spiderdroid, except it's faster, adds a touch of vehicular combat, and is loads of fun to play. So far I've only been able to play it thru emulation, but I want to be able to play it on actual Atari hardware. After I ordered and paid for an Atari 2600 Custom Cartridge, I added the following note to the order: I need a reproduction of "Demolition Herbie" for my own use. https://atariage.com/software_page.php?SoftwareLabelID=132 (I meant Herby)

Now on to the PAL question. Can PAL games be placed onto an NTSC cartridge? There are PAL exclusives that I want to be able to play on my Atari hardware, which use the NTSC standard. Those games include Acid Drop and Meteor Defense for example.

Can anyone answer the PAL question for me? Both of the mentioned PAL exclusives run on my emulator, EMU7800, but Acid Drop cuts of the bottom 30% or so off the screen, and Meteor Defense runs, but in black and white only. Most PAL games run fine though.

    Thanks in advance.

  13.

Check out that sellers other items. Aside from the PCB only ballblazers he's selling for the POKEY chips, He's also selling NIB Ballblazers and 6 pack boxes of them. I'm guessing he must have cracked and old case of them (72 count) and he's making bank on them every which way and loose, literally :P

Good to know. I've started following this seller and saved the POKEY chip as a saved search. :)

  14. I just placed placed an order for this POKEY chip https://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-Pokey-chip-C012294B-01/113670943284?hash=item1a7750f234:g:jF0AAOSwq5dcesi~&frcectupt=true

I then placed an order for Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest here at Atari Age. I have received confirmation emails from both jasperman (the dealer for the POKEY chip), and Atari Age. After I became an annual subscriber I thought that I would be sent an email with a 5% discount code number, but I haven't as yet. So, I left that field blank when ordering Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest.
