Lessons you have learned from video games.
keilbaca replied to adamchevy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Turning the power off fixes ALL problems. .... I wish people had an off switch as well. -
http://www.twitch.tv/twitchplayspokemon How they made it this far is beyond my comprehension. Basically someone decided to stream Pokemon Red on an emulator, and made a script that intercepted the IRC chat into commands for the emulator. Check it out

Atari 2600 Select, Reset, and Pause from NES controller
keilbaca replied to atariguy1021's topic in Atari 2600
I really like the idea of select and reset on the controller. Make it select/start, and its a simple use of two more pins. I may have to do this mod very shortly on my Sears video arcade II. Disable the 3rd and 4th port... make them player 1/player 2 with the modified controllers. -
Certain carts won't fit in the slot, because they made the cases thicker. I am using the Batari mod, I have been for a while, and it runs flawless. I stream with that setup, and it looks fantastic. akaviolence may have some pause switch/batari video mod boards available. Shoot him a PM. He also offers a video modding service.

Import from Japan....what to try for?
keilbaca replied to Metal Ghost's topic in Classic Console Discussion
If you like shmups, try to find a PS1 game called Zanac X Zanac. Its super expensive here in the states, and I know they exist... when I was in japan in 2004, I had a sealed copy in my hand in the store for $15.. and regret buying it to this day. I'm sure its still around. Zanac Neo has the most intricate scoring system of any shmup. Definitely lots of replay time with that one. And, you get the original NES Zanac with it as well. Also, pick up any Cave shoot em ups that you can find for the xbox 360. The hike in price getting it imported is about $20-30 depending on the site. If you can find a copy of Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets, snag it. Its out of print and quickly becoming rare. -
Very awesome. The only thing I would have done extra, would be to make the cabinet a little taller, add an arcade control panel with Sanwa parts, and an arcade Atari spinner modified into the paddle control. The fire button on the paddle would be left if I remember correctly, and you can make it all one port without needing to unplug the cable.

That's not a bad price for the PS1 lot, being it includes FF VII. -
HSC Season 2 ~ SILVER Medal Bracket ~ Medal Bracket Challenge
keilbaca replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
Bah... that's the worst. I wish you lived close, I'd be more than glad to open up my place to you and have some personal fun competition Does anyone know when this round will end? -
First attempt - 138,200 Not a bad little game. I never played the 2600 version before (well longer than 5 min, due to me dying on the first formation...) I kept dying there because I am not used to this game, always played the arcade version. My score on the arcade is over 100k as well, so I feel I can do a *lot* better at this game... I should be able to roll it honestly. I'll stream this game soon

The NEW High Score Club S2 ~ Week 31~ Double Points 1 ~ Solar Fox

The fix worked. I also tried force disabling v-sync in the nvidia control panel. That, as expected, provided the best as far as flipper lag is concerned... but unfortunately the game is entirely too dependent on v-sync. The table literally looked torn in half horizontal with v-sync forced off. :/ At any rate, it went from not playable to very playable. Not perfect, but I don't want a table that looks like it has a time warp wrinkle halfway in it either. If I can force the frames to 60FPS instead of 120FPS+ then the wrinkle should go away... I got some tinkering to play with. But all in all, both Pinball FX 2 and Pinball Arcade are very playable now.

Awesome. I will change that value tonight. Hopefully this fixes the exact same flipper lag that I am having in Pinball FX 2 as well. The lag between the two games are identical, so I imagine it has everything to do with the v-sync. I somehow completely forgot that in the Nvidia drivers I can tell it to force no v-sync. I'm sure that will fix it too. EDIT: Come to think of it... every single v-sync enabled game I have ever played, has had this slight input delay. Even on FPS's with my mouse. I get to find out tonight if I can finally play CS Source with no lag, and v-sync on Same with Far Cry 2 and UT 2004

The NEW Hign Score Club S2 ~ Week 28 ~ Cosmic Ark
keilbaca replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
Gah... I wasn't around any way to post the pic of my last score, being I didn't get a chance to play on Sunday. -
Once I get everything settled and I am streaming again, I will start submitting scores to all the high score sites. Retroids, this, maybe even resurrect a few posts on retrogaming magazine.

The NEW Hign Score Club S2 ~ Week 28 ~ Cosmic Ark
keilbaca replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
I find that I do better at twitch games... oddly enough... when I am absolutely exhausted. I'm trying for a better score, and I didn't take a pic because I know I can do better... but I'm averaging around 17k.
