Thanks again, folks... but I will definitely be doing a further issue (and more) - just not on a regular schedule. I tried to get them out on time but it was becoming impossible, so no more subscriptions - what was I thinking... ? Look out for the next issue in the New Year - probably around March. It would be nice to review some of the new games - Laura, Gunfright, Hobgoblin 2, Rick Dangerous etc... looking forward to that! cheers Robert
-
Thanks Guys! I will get issue #4 out but it will be next year... cheers Robert
-
You can still order them on the website. I will try and get something out next year... one issue at a time!
-
Hi Folks Due to poor sales I have postponed Excel for the time being. Refunds have been sent out via PayPal... might make a comeback next year, as an irregular mag as and when... Thanks for the support! I can't devote the time to keep up new issues for so desperately few people. cheers Robert

Name This Game is now available to download on the website: http://www.excel-retro-mag.co.uk

The slot on the case is just tall enough that if you insert the card at a slight angle, it misses the internal slot - which is easy to do! I actually emailed Lotharek in a panic as I thought (as you did) there was no way to open the case and I was going to have to send it back... lol... I felt like a bit of a twit when he said you can remove the rubber feet!
-
I did this as well - if you take the rubber feet off you can access the screws...!

52 pages of blood, sweat and tears colourful noisy Atari fun... ...available now as a printed magazine or downloadable PDF. www.excel-retro-mag.co.uk

Excel Magazine now available as PDF downloads

Oh... this brings back memories! I remember learning to do character strings for the first time which I used to store the level data. And simple character set flipping in a VBI for the animation. The music was interrupt-driven also and was from a typed-in Page 6 magazine listing. I was quite chuffed with it - I thought it wasn't bad at all for a game written in Basic. - Phil, the game was written in early 1991 and appeared on the first issue of Excel Disk Magazine (March/April 1991) which can be downloaded from my website. Wow, seems like a lifetime ago! -
Issues #1 and #2 are now available as PDF downloads from the website. Also, subscriptions are available for 3 or 6 issues. www.excel-retro-mag.co.uk I am still looking for someone to handle orders in Poland - please PM me if you're interested... I pay the postage at your end (via PayPal) and you get a free subscription...! thanks! Robert

Thanks to you all... Larry - the magazine is out every two months, issue #3 will be out on Oct 1 and #4 on December 1st... Fred_M - shipping costs have now been cut to the bone (£2 per issue) as I have distributors for the mag in several countries... Philsan - the best is yet to come - there will be brand new interviews with all the top homebrew coders over the next few issues... Mclaneinc - thanks for pimping the mag on here... again...! Stephen - you and all other US customers will have your mags posted out tomorrow. They have just arrived in the US today - they were shipped to "orpheuswaking" two weeks ago with a guaranteed five day delivery... lol...!

A little news about Excel magazine: I now have distributors for the magazine in several countries so a batch of each new issue will be mailed to each distributor which will cost me pretty much the same per issue as mailing it out to a UK address. The magazine will then be mailed out locally in each country, so the postage per issue for overseas orders is now only £2. A lot of people were put off buying the magazine due to the postage costs but hopefully this will attract more readers... From issue #3, which is out on October 1st, the magazine will have an increased page count too. Issue #3 is now available to pre-order... Robert excel-retro-mag.co.uk

Hello to all Atari 8-bitters If you find the postage costs of mailing out the printed magazine to your part of the world too expensive, I have been pondering on the idea of making the magazine available as a digital download, i.e. a PDF file available from the website @ £1 per issue. Good idea... or crazy talk...?

Oops...! Sorry, I always tend to equate XE to 130XE... as in 128k... and XL to 64k.... and Atari 800 to 48k... and Atari 400 to 16k... My bad!!!
