  1. Thank you to some of you for answering my question ha ha Ha
  2. What the consensus on this be that this would effectively solve the problem?
  3. LOL I made it CLEAR that I did NOT want this to go this way!!!! All I asked was if someone thought it was worthwhile to have an Atari ST if you already have an Amiga 500; basically, is there enough overlap to just own the "one" of your choice at least game-wise.
  4. It's a back-burner thing. I may get one someday. Seems difficult to get one's hands on an STE. I presume this needs 15khz as well, which I luckily have two synch monitors for.
  5. I understand that and (based on what evidence I have as a novice) agree, but my question is whether there is any practical need to have an ST if you have an Amiga. I think I've come up with, as a casual collector, that the answer is a resounding "no."
  6. Woah! First person I've seen feel this way. I do understand that non-gaming gives some wins to Atari.
  7. I've been trying to find out if there were many games exclusive to the IIGS without much luck. I guess I'm mostly curious between Atari and Amiga as to if there is much lost other than the music on not having an ST. In many ways, the music seems to be the big difference...
  8. But related. I've seen TONS of arguments around and they were partly what influenced me to buy an A500 as there seems to be little legitimate argument as to an Atari ST being better other than nostalgia. HOWEVER, I'm curious what community members' opinions are as to whether there is any value in having an ST? Or an Apple IIGS for that matter? It seems that this was an era where there was little exclusivity, especially on the end of those two machines. I don't collect just to collect, I collect mostly to play games. Thoughts?
  9. After looking at the outrageous prices on ebay, I'm looking for a C64. Must have power supply. Prefer breadbin model. Can pick up in Omaha, Lincoln, Des Moines, Sioux City....
  10. God I want to take that "t" off "Genesist" so badly. Nothing like typos. I'm still trying to figure out if these are an actual, tangible problem on C64 or if that is bunk. My A8 is my only classic computer that hasn't either (a) caught fire (Amiga 500) or (b) fritzed for no reason (C64). ugh.
  11. All right, I am missing something really simple here. How do I run a program from, say, D2 in DOS? I don't see any option to run programs or execute files. Let's say I have a game on a real floppy D2. How do I get that to run?!
  12. Additional question I've got on this--is it possible to boot disk 2/run said auto-boot multi-game disk with SIO2SD still mounted as "disk 1?" Or, if I change in the config setting the number of SIO2SD temporarily and always leave 1050 as disk 1 in the back, will that revert to letting me boot from the floppy drive? SO MUCH TO LEARN.
  13. I just realized you misunderstood me. I know you can't add to an ATR file, I meant can you add the contents of additional ATR files to the same physical disk. I do believe this has been answered in the positive. Thank you!
  14. OK, I'll try not to worry then. Of the three computers I bought (C64, 800XL, and Amiga 500), the 800 XL is by far in the best shape and seems most reliable. I really didn't think I'd like this machine...as I am sure you saw in an earlier post. I adore it.
  15. So if I'm hearing this right, the first thing I really need is a floppy with one of the DOS's on it. I can run drive 2 from that system, and mounting the ATR to say, Drive 3 with SIO2SD I can duplicate all the files of the games to the floppy. This sounds excellent. I'll try it tonight.
  16. I know this has been covered before, but it was years ago and I'm wondering if there has been any change of opinion regarding using this controller with a C64. I heard some info that this is only on C64C? I don't want to cook another unit...which just happened to my current one for different (and unknown) reasons...
  17. I've heard there is an issue using these on C64...possibly...does anyone know if this is dangerous on an A500? I don't want to cook mine.
  18. Are these safe to use on an A8? I don't want to fry anything and I understand it's an issue for C64...
  19. I can't figure this out and I'm new to this whole thing. I've got quite a few new old stock types of floppies. I successfully (I think) formatted them. I have a couple of questions about what I'm trying to do. 1. Do I put a "Dos" on all of them? 2. I want to copy files from SIO2SD to them to make game and other disks. How do I do this? I'm having some trouble with setting the drive number on the SIO2SD as I know it is multiple drives, but I'm not sure how the 800 sees the floppy drive (currently set as "1") vs. the SIO2SD. 2 1/2: If I copy an .atr file to a floppy, does that take up the entire floppy, or can another ATR be extracted to it as well if room? 3. I didn't even want this system. I love it so much; how wrong I was. 4. Thanks! Looking forward to hearing. Have tried MyDos, Dos 2.5, and Disk Wizard with differing errors.
  20. My breadbin fried itself, so now I'm looking to see if anyone has a replacement for me. I don't particularly need 1541 or cassette or anything, don't mind other extras. Please let me know, I'm looking for cheap as e-bayers have lost their minds.
  21. Yeah, I have no idea how to do any of this. The way I bought my Gotek, it has the firmware on it but no USB. I prepared it myself with the selector.adf...if you know how to go from there any help is way appreciated as I'm quite new to ALL of this.
  22. Hello again. I have yet another issue. It seems I have most everything up and running to some degree, but when I try to use my floppy drive emulator, it shows with nothing on it even though I have a stick that is loaded with ADF files. I tried putting the disk images on an SD card with an adapter, but then it showed the drive as bad DF1. Is there a particular kind of USB stick that works better with this? I do have selector.adf on there, but nothing shows at all. I also do not have a fully working workbench, but I think this would at least show when I stick a disc in for another program.
