  1. I put a Link in mine and used a SCSI drive. I had thought it would be possible to create a SCSI adapter from Tori's reversed schematics and reengineer for a Megafile footprint. You could use SCSI or bluescsi etc then. Other option is to drop an ACSI2STM in there. MFM was notoriously bad back in the day.
  2. IPC/Fleetway, UK. I have a shed load of Battle comics. Back in 1983 Battle became Battle Action Force, the UK GI joe line in simple terms. After Action Force, Battle got absorbed into Eagle in 1988 as is the tradition with UK comics when sales dip. I'd wager Roadblasters and Cosmic Warriors were an attempt to claw back a couple of toy lines probably because they did really well with Action Force. They also took on MASK which was another Hasbro toy line. There is also a PAL Action Force game for the 2600 based on the US GI Joe game. I used to buy these comics in New Zealand when I was a kid. I still buy them. 🙂
  3. Those are the only differences, floppies are different for the early STF and STFM as well. I put an STE board in an old STFM case, just drilled audio ports and milled the floppy cavity for a modern drive. Jag ports are the only real problem.
  4. You don't need anything special for a MegaSTE/TT battery. They are pretty easy to DIY on the cheap. You could probably use a CR2032 and make a holder for it. It can be done for under $10. The battery is purely RTC, it doesn't have NVRAM like a Falcon.
  5. Regardless of market share, yes, it is as important. The dream here is for an updated TOS machine and/or a new full featured 8-bit. No an emulator, we can already do that. Mini's I don't think make much sense because you are preaching to the converted and most folks who would be expected to buy one already have a real machine. I have seven 8-bits, and I can play what I want when I want already. Makes sense for consoles, I bought a 2600+, but that's about it. This end of the world Atari computers made some inroads. I got my 800XL brand new in New Zealand, moved to Australia and it didn't take me long to find other Atari users. Remember that back in the day most folks didn't have any kind of computer. Only us nerds. Atari market share went well past 1984 too. I bought a Falcon in the 90's and have oodles of Mega/ST/E's as well. All great machines.
  6. TOS 2.06 uses the lighter shade of green. I actually like that. ColorTOS is an nice fix for TOS 2 as well but does not much for medium res. I usually change my TOS 2.06 machines to the Falcon type Aqua in colour resolutions. Xcontrol is pretty good.
  7. I'd guess I have 20+ ST's of various types. I fixed an STFM last night and, it is black background on high res and white on low/med. No floppy attached at the time. Never owned an NTSC model if that is any different?
  8. ACSI2STM etc is also a good option, use a SD card.
  9. Pretty sure High Res does have a black background and Low/Med is white? Barse acwards. Black edges look a hell of a lot better on an LCD. Wish it could be easily changed for desktop use.
  10. That was my worry. If Atari were serious about these machines they would get involved and approach Revive rather than let henchmen at it. Proof is in the pudding for Atari and I guess desert just got dished up. I wan't to support Atari as much as possible, we need a direction for the future but this is a bit worrying. The idea of a Mini isn't my first thought but I would buy one just in the interests of solidarity. I won't if they don't pull their head in.
  11. They come with Noctua fans, they are inline resistors that limit/reduce the fan speed. Fans don't have modes.
  12. Where you get the ram from isn't important, 4x 1mb or 1x 4mb. But yeah, that's how its done. I did this a couple of times over the years but I can't remember where I saw it originally.
  13. These boards are actually pretty easy to upgrade if you know what you are doing. 4MB is as simple as replacing the RAM and adding an extra address line to the MMU. But, you have to desolder RAM from 4x 1MB SIMM's, desolder the existing RAM and surface mount the scavenged RAM. Its easier than tag style boards in that respect.
  14. Here you go, http://www.atarimania.com/list_games_atari-st-atari-corp_publisher_4570_S_G.html Battlezone was the first to come to mind. ARC was a pretty prolific back in the day I seem to recall. Hmm, it seems the Falcon games fall into that category too, like Road Riot 4WD, Raiden and Steel Talons. Be cool to see those games done too.
  15. The Gotek is easy sorted in Australia, Ray is a good guy; Gotek Floppy Emulator, Oled,Rotary,Amiga,Atari ST,Amstrad etc $60.00 | Other Electronics & Computers | Gumtree Australia Hobsons Bay Area - Williamstown | 1319801528 Then get a mate to 3d print a cradle for it; https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5882098 Job done. For a monitor you can get this from JB, pretty sure this is the one that gets a solid mention here ? (correct me if I'm wrong). Its very much PAL land here; https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/dell-se2722h-27-full-hd-monitor And grab an adapter from Kodak80 in Queensland; https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/143977350007 Then you should be in business.
  16. I don't get the moaning about developers not doing what so-and-so wants them to do. It would be much like me moaning that Kylie Minogue won't write music I like. I don't listen to Kylie and let her get on with whatever it is she's doing. I don't care. It's not harming my love for prog rock. As a guitarist I don't play songs I don't like or have any interest in, I play what I enjoy. A developer (or any artist) will write what inspires, not what a few whingers demand. That's why ST games get ported. Its what they love, its not a commercial interest. They are under no obligation to cater to anyone. I'm stunned it needs explaining and the constant sooking is bloody annoying. Thanks guys for all the Jag games. Keep it up.
  17. Nailed it in one. An I'm still no closer to playing Raiding Rivers..... 🙂
  18. That translates to Antipodean, we understand. But, pulling your finger out is very much a Kiwi/Aussie thing, it seems. It means pulling your finger out of your posterior and getting on with it. 🙂
  19. Is this one of those cross culture miscommunications you often get with Americans? I have too many Atari's and the cost off all these little repairs and upgrades is killing me.
  20. It is. 15k is needed for RGB. So yes, it does. If it works with the ST it will work with the Falcon. But, there are two issues with the Falcon - its too damned good. Because its video output is so flexible some LCD's will not sync to every resolution that demo's or games might use. Also, because it can switch res so fast most LCD's can't sync fast enough so sometimes you won't get to see sections of the demo etc, etc. CRT's won't have this issue. I built an adapter with RGB/VGA and composite to make it easier or just stick to VGA.
  21. Superb, River Raid was in my top 10 of 8 bit games, not just an average 16 bit port. Better pull finger and get a gamedrive.
  22. I don't think such a beast exists. You could probably get one made though. There are a few custom ones floating around evilbay.
  23. I've always been involved one way or another in the Melbourne Atari scene so I have had a few machines gifted to me over the years. A lot of them needed repair but now I'm down to a MegaSTE, 130XE and a 2600Jr left to get up and running, no Atari left behind and all that. I have developed a knack for picking up machines at the right time. Now is the time to buy Flashbacks, Ps2's/3's, Wii's/Wii'U and Xbox 360's etc. My Jag was bought for $100us and one of my Falcons for $50au because they were diminishing in popularity at the time. According to Wiki the XEGS sold 100000 units, checking their source that figure was in 1988 alone by the look of it. A bit misleading.
  24. My XEGS was from a pawn shop maybe 20 years ago and I don't recall paying a lot for it, maybe $20 Australian. It is a lovely piece of kit and I always loved the STesqu designs of the last 8-bits. I did buy a boxed light gun brand new back in the day for my 800XL too. I still have it and the box.
