If you don't mind me asking how is using Wimodem232 on an ST?

I've got a couple netusbee's and the telnet clients are pretty cr@p for BBS'ing so would like to get back to uniterm and connect 95 that i used to use to connect to the BBS's again.

Any other uses for Wimodem232 apart from terminal BBS ?

    thanks

Serial communications through the internet, which at this point is basically doing BBSing.. But thats not a bad thing. $60 for the device, OR you can build your own using a ESP32 or ESP8266 and a serial adapter to whatever machine you have. Zimodem is the firmware, you can google it.   IT works well. I have both Wimodem232 (which is a ESP32 based device) and I have a number (4) ESP8266 Luan development boards, that you can make your own wifi modem with.

Hmm..  My issue was that the result code for a connection came in too fast for Michtron to recognize it... so it would "answer" and then just hang there... so if you typed 13 (or whatever the code was for the baud rate) it worked fine.

Otherwise, it would sit there and wait for the result code that would never come (because the modem had already sent it)

OK, now the MichTron 3.0 I have the setup or maint program allows you to set modems up.. 9600 baud being the fastest.  I set it to 9600 and set the wimodem232 to 9600 - so there was not negotiating..   When I call in.. I get a quick string of characters about 20 or so.. then a CR and HIT RETURN.

IIRC, that's correct - they were the same. I don't have a manual at all...

Ok, so you dont have any idea how to program in MCL either than Darklord? There is a MCL tutorial with Michtron bbs 2.0 and a manual in electronic form. I have looked at it, and it does not jibe with the .m listings I have on some of the commands. So I think there was a pretty major revision in the MCL from 2.0 to 3.0 - but I am a hardware guy not a programmer.

I have read that the program itself is an interpreter of the language - so maybe there are some special sysop commands that allow you to load in a file? I see there is a DEBUG command to flag errors, you are able to watch a task console. So maybe you write it in a text editor - start the bbs and load your module in and test that way??

The other one I am trying to play with is TurboBoard - which between 1991-1994 was one of the most popular ST bbs'  It took over from ForemST added and changed a few things - was FULLY into FNET- might have even been able to FIDO. It was authored in my city here in Canada, but I cannot find anything on it, seems it left little of no legacy accept in magazines.

I had it set up as a demo for awhile.  It had some major issues dealing with the internet modem solutions.

Also, no one cared.  No one really called it (except maybe Giarc?)

I pretty much wrote it off and abandoned it.

Hmmm, mine seems to work with the Wimodem232 really well. I had it up and running this afternoon, was online with my laptop and logged in on the consol at the same time.

Ill be honest I did not know you had it setup as a demo until I saw it in the SFHQ listing.. and by then you took it down.

Yes... but apparently so do you?

No thats just an image I found online.. only thing I have been able to find.

If you dont have time to scan yours - can you send it to me and I will scan it and send it back to you??

I would really love to learn how to play with this MCL - there are several samples of cool  things done with it, but I dont really understand what I am looking at.

Would assume there must be a runtime editor software for the MCL - all I have is a compiler that came with the BBS - I would assume there is a way to run it and debug it before you compile.

    Thanks

  6. I will add this to this topic.

    1. Darklord did get a copy of the Michtron v3 BBS - I had it and passed it to him.

Working on that.. I am trying to find any info (docs) and software? related to the Michtron Control Language.  A compiler comes with the BBS, but no editor (maybe you use a text editor? ) and no docs for it.

So, does anyone using the Express Cart use it with an an Atari 800??   if you do could you post? I would like to eliminate that the computer itself is an issue.

    James

Well, I guess I should specify that I have an 800 with an Incognito in it.. like a U1MB + side cart all in one.. So.. I can set the system to be any Rom and any Ram size.. so really this 800 SHOULD work.

I had to delete my config file once, it became corrupted and behaved like your image - just crashing on that screen.  But since then no worries and thanks to bf2k+ for helping me out with that.

ok, but I have never had a config file.. so where does that put me? As far as I can tell, the cart does not even try and access a drive? So I am not sure whats going on there.

Did you at least visually inspect the PROM to make sure it's seated correctly? That was the point of my message. It seems a poorly seated PROM causes strange behavior/lockups. :)

Yes I did JP, I reseated it as well, tried my APE SIO2PC setup again - had not done it since last time (weeks ago) I got it working.. and now I get the same thing.. So its not specific to the SDrive.. but I assume it is looking for a config file in a drive. I would have assumed it being a cart, it would not rely on it having a diskdrive to work.. if it did not find a config file it would just use a default config.

    Weird.

  10. Hey guys, trying to get this working again.

Atari 800 with Incognito, setup for a rambo 1088mb  - I can use sparta DOS or something else. I have SDrive-max for files. 850 interface with UDS-10 to connect.

I am getting the  driver to load from RS232.com in Sparta or the 850  - but express! cart is always stuck on loading configuration file.. cant get past.. the only setup I can get past is if I use a SIO2PC to APE software.

    ANyone help??

I'm having difficulty updating my SDrive-Max firmware.  I've downloaded & extracted the 1.2 files.  When I run Xloader & select the eeprom_writer.hex file & click upload, it says "Uploading..." and freezes.  I have to unplug the USB cable to get it to come back, at which point is says, "Upload failed".

The display clears, flashes white, then goes back to the SDmax display.  It does this twice.  Like it is resetting twice.

My configuration is correct as I can flash a separate, new Uno (although, oddly, not with the SDrive.hex file, which doesn't freeze but does come back with "Update failed".).  Flashing the eeprom_writer.hex file to the spare uno shows the normal writing & verifying progress bars on the display.

I finally got around to wanting to update my fw as I tried to format a DD disk and it failed, as previously discussed about the v1.1 fw.

    Any ideas?

My setup includes a homemade UNO2SIO board, as well as a bicolor LED on the TX & RX lines with a 220 ohm resistor on the comman annode.

I unsoldered the annode wire on my RX/TX LED, and I was then able to flash the new fw.

So I am guessing that maybe 220 ohm is the wrong value to use here?

I think that I had tried a 470 ohm, but one side of the LED wouldn't light up when I was breadboarding it, so I went to a smaller LED.

Any suggestions on what the proper value of resistor I should use here is?  Or should I rework my board to hook the annode right to pwr and use two separate resistors on the RX & TX?

It's been 30 years since I studied EE at university, so I remember just enough to be dangerous!

    Thanks.

Ok, so I assume this is the issue I am having.

mine has a 260 ohm resistor on the green command led.. I can cut it and resolder I guess. But how is this build supposed to be so I dont have to open it up to do this in the future?

You can just try them one at a time until the screen works. No harm will come by doing this :)

I can see when it first boots up.. its does flash TFT 9341  - So thats solved.. but when I try and use Xloader to flash .. it locks up.. and yes I am doing the eeprom_writer.hex first..

I can flash this with arduino-ide correct?? I setup a board arduino-Uno.. do I need a library? anyone seen a tutorial on flashing?

Is it possible the Arduino Uno is locked ? so that it cannot be flashed?  When I run Xloader it just resets the device several times, IDE says cannot access the programmer.

  13. SO I am looking to update my SDrive-Max. It was one made for me.  SO the sdrive-max-v13.zip has a whole bunch of folders in it.  I think the numbers in the folder names refers to the screen controller?

How do I know which screen controller I have in it? Do I have to take it all apart?? Is there a default? Do I try and if it looks bad .. try again?

  14. Just as a note to finish this.. if you are having issues with the double characters echoing - and you cannot get any changes to the configuration to work. Reset the UDS device to factory settings.. and then set the settings again. I needed to do the factory reset, and I was able to get it working, no amount of adjustments once I had the issue fixed it - without the reset.
