  1. Unfortunately, I've discovered the VA6x causes me literal ear pain at any volume. Seriously. Maybe something to do with the frequency it's putting out. So I guess that's 110 dollars down the drain. I'd never make that money back selling it.
  2. Wow! Well, it's pretty easy to tell that the VA6.x sound is better when playing music from Shadow Dancer (1990) and Rocket Knight (1993). I guess that really was it. Shinobi III must favor the VA7+. I never would have thought. Now I'm not sure what to do lol I think I may just keep both of them. Thanks for the help. This Rocket Knight song is a good example. I can hear distortion with the piano on the VA7 while the VA6x is very bright and clean. RocketKnightVA6x.wav RocketKnightVA7.wav
  3. Interesting. I never thought of that! I might test them on an older game and see how they compare then.
  4. Ok. I hope you can hear these. The volume slider is at max. I still think this VA6.X sounds really unbalanced. I've heard other recordings of supposedly the same revision and sound much better than this. The VA7 is quieter but more balanced. This is recorded straight from the Genesis Headphone jack to my PC's microphone port. Once again, I ask: Does my VA6.X sound normal to any of you? Thanks. The game the sound is from is Shinobi III VA6xSoundMAXVOLUME.wav VA7SoundMAXVOLUME.wav
  5. Or is this really how the VA6.x with the YM2612 is supposed to sound? I'm starting to think maybe I favor the VA7 because it's the one I grew up with and listened to for years.
  6. I just got my Model 1 VA6.x (not sure if it's 6.5 or 6.8) recapped with new capacitors from console5.com. Got them soldered by a local PC repair shop. But I'm pretty sure it's not suppose to sound like this. It's pretty loud and drowns out alot of detail in the music and the treble seems high and shrill sounding depending on the instrument playing. My original childhood VA7 however sounds great in comparison, with punchier bass and percussion. It's much more balanced sounding. And the VA7 is supposed to be the "stinker" model 1s. What's the deal? Is there another component on the board bad on the VA6.x? Something to do with the low or high pass filter? I pretty much don't know anything about electronics/circuitry. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks!
  7. I have a second question, but don't feel like making a whole new topic for it. When a game has faint vertical static lines in the background does that mean the contacts aren't quite clean enough? Or is it just normal depending on the game? Certain games in my collection have a perfect plain black screen, but some don't and have the lines or other distortions in the background.
  8. My camera sucks so I doubt I could get a better pic than that one. I don't have an aptitude for working on electronics boards.. Starting to think I should give up and just toss it There was only one tested copy of it on ebay in the US where I live and it was 12 bucks..so.. I guess I better keep looking at thrift stores for it.. Thanks for all the suggestions though! I didn't expect nearly the response that I did.
  9. Pressing up on it doesn't seem to make any difference. And I don't have a volt meter My other Imagic games work fine.
  10. I think I may have found the culprit
  11. This is probably pretty common, but this is the first time I've ever had a 2600 game do this out of like 70 games. I tried scrubbing the contacts to death with 70% alcohol and q-tips. I even tried WD-40 with a q-tip (which probably wasn't a great idea) But no change. It's Moonsweeper so its kinda uncommon. Especially where I live. So I'd hate to trash it or the label. Is there anything else I can do? What causes this? Is it not seating properly? Would I have to take it apart and rip the label off to get to the screw? :\ I know it's not the system as I tried another game from my collection and it worked fine. Thanks OMG Why did this double post?! Sorry very embarrassing. Fuck my life.

  13. I'm not apparently. Using guides on youtube, I've tried taking apart and cleaning Atari paddles in the past and I was never able to make them work better. I'd probably somehow make it work worse than it did in the first place with this one.
  14. Makes sense. I guess it's one of the older ones? I did notice it does have some jitter, but not so bad it's unplayable. I have the worst luck finding paddles that actually work good.
  15. Oh.. Guess I suck at searching the forum :\ Really sorry guys!
