I like the one that goes:  Dun dun dun dun de dun, dun dun de dun de dun...

  4. Picked up a Zool: Alien Ninja from the Nth Dimension plush from Sew 8-bit in the UK.

      The best news.

    3. GoldLeader

Well if you short sold FB earlier, it'd be Great news!   And time to close on the position, but I don't trade on margin...

We decided to take advantage of the market really.   House of 18 years was worth more than twice what we paid for it.   Sold house, paid off mortgage and completely paid off new house.  :D   New city is nice, getting to try out a new place.  Been fun.

    3. Max_Chatsworth

Cool...good luck in your new digs.  Remind me where you moved from?

    4. doctorclu

I lived in South, Dallas so only moved less than an hour away.  But it is more quiet, lower taxes, and people are a bit friendlier here.

  9. Showed Shark! Shark! on the Intellivision to a friend's kid and we had round after round of great two player fun.

    1. IntelliMission

I think you should buy a Switch instead. I play Switch everyday and it's great. If you want a home console, buy a Switch. It's cheaper than most and only a bit more expensive than others. If you want a handheld, buy a Switch. You can play anywhere, unlike the Intellivision. You can program a missile launch with the Switch. I play Switch with my son, my grandson and the son of my grandson. Did you know you can use the Switch as a frisbee? All in all (and sorry for the offtopic), the Switch in unavoidable. I'm having a great time with the Switch right now, just looking at it. Buy a Switch now and get a free "I play the switch instead of the ______" certificate that you can fill up with the name of your favorite, inferior console. Switch!

      (Just kidding, folks).

I've never played Shark! Shark!, but it looks fun to play with non gamers.

    2. retrorussell

      Good game for the Intellivision.

    3. doctorclu

Yeh Retrorussell, Shark! Shark! is a very basic game, simple to learn, and addicting.  :D

  10. No static at all.

Just the idea that FM was new and they only had staticy AM before. The miracle of FM, etc. Loses relatability over time.

kind of like like a song about wonders of cassette tapes or, maybe to be more extreme, the automobile or electric light.

    3. doctorclu

Oh I get you.   And now we have digital radio channels.

    4. Swami

Hard to imagine a world with just AM, just like world with just the three broadcast stations even though I grew up to some extent in that world. My parents bought me a 1980 pickup when I was 16 that had an AM only radio.

  11. My wife ask for peace and quiet while she cooked dinner.

So I took the batteries out of the smoke alarm.

...and the house burned down.  JK

So I took the batteries out of her hearing aid.

Bwahahahahaha! Best status update of the day doc.  :)

  12. Ok, let's see some good April 1st jokes.  :D

    1. CPUWIZ

      Here you go...

  13. What do you call a sheep covered in Chocolate?   A candy baa!

    1. Kiwi

That's a really sheep joke. LOL

    2. GoldLeader

I didn't think that joke was too baaaad.

  14. Goodbye Fry's, hello Micro Center.

Micro Center should consider setting up shop in Slidell.

Fry's was pretty cool when I first went to one, 20+ years ago. I looked forward to visiting the stores and looking at all of the stuff I couldn't afford (but wanted to buy). As Radio Shack deteriorated, Fry's became one of the few retail stores where you could buy stuff for electronics projects. They had a huge selection so you could compare different brands and had competitive prices. My HDTV was bought there, and I got a great deal on it.

      That was in 2007.

Over subsequent years, the stores deteriorated. There were fewer products, the displays fell apart, demos didn't work, entire sections weren't restocked, and the employees just seemed to stop caring. I don't recall the last time I went into a Fry's. I certainly didn't buy anything the last several times I went in either, because they didn't have what I was looking for.

Online retailers often get blamed for the death of brick-and-mortar retailers like Fry's, Radio Shack, Sears and Toys 'R' Us. But if you really look at how the stores were run, and what a miserable experience in-person shopping became, they did it to themselves.

The nearest Micro Center to me is in Tustin. 85 miles away, on the other side of Los Angeles. Not visiting anytime soon.

    4. thanatos

Micro Center opened here about 12 years ago.  Still appears to be busy and doing OK, thankfully!

I'm so spoiled with their SD and MicroSD cards at the cash register.  I get a new one every trip just because they are so cheap.  I am flush with 32/64GB micro SDs.

Not to mention the only place where you need "X" cable or part.  They will have it.  Not even Radio Shack would compare back in the day.  Have even gotten fiber network cables there during a work emergency.

  15. $65K for a one of two known Amiga CD32 accelerator.  Wow.  (Most expensive retro item I've seen on ebay)

    1. Keatah

Not sure what that accelerates. It's just 4MB of memory. And the 65K price looks like a placeholder, he will likely take much less, like $500. It's a listing technique.

  16. Need help from someone in the UK.   Trying to have something shipped but they (in the UK) will not ship to the United States.  I will cover all expenses.

    1. x=usr(1536)

Give them a shot.  I've used them before for exactly the scenario you're describing, and have no complaints regarding their service.

    2. doctorclu

Good advice.   I have that as a plan B.

  17. Merry Christmas!  May your tree be a fuji with games for presents!

    1. GoldLeader

And may your Atari be overflowing with Homebrews!  (I have to laugh as the Spell Check thought I misspelled Hebrews).

    2. Five Pannel Games
  18. Brother:What are you giving Mom and Dad for Christmas?

    Sister:My Christmas List!

  19. Today's joke....

If there is a more pathetic procrastinator than me, I'd like to meet them.

    2. atari2600land

Hi, Max_Chatsworth, I'm atari2600land. Nice to meet you.

  20. 2020 has been a great year to re-boot my life.

    1. jaybird3rd

For me too.  All the upheaval of this year interrupted certain routines and habits that I had fallen into, so I took the opportunity to create better ones.

    2. Max_Chatsworth

Not me...I went from my usual great shape to a piece of crap...:(

    3. doctorclu

Oh don't get me wrong, some parts of my life have gone to crap.  But not the important parts.   House is in better shape.  Work is doing quite well.   Gotten back into retro computing and BBSing.   There were other aspects that did not weather this so well.

  21. To Curt Vendel, an old friend that helped us remember how fun Atari really is.  And someone who found some new ways to have even more fun.   Gonna miss you.

      Wyluli Wolf

Oh wow.  This is sad news.  Loved the book Atari Inc. Far too young to leave this world.

  22. Saw Bill & Ted... a great Bill & Ted movie.

At least this sequel is giving us a good reunion of surviving actors and their characters unlike a certain trilogy that just wrapped up recently. :)

    3. doctorclu

No doubt!   This one got a good lot of the main characters together, and introduced new characters.  And though George Carlin is no longer with us, he was remembered as well.

    4. doctorclu

Hey Adam242, let me know what you think of it when you see it.  :D

  23. Driving down the ally in my Green Machine... now that is some fun I missed.

    1. GoldLeader

Especially when ya run them over!   And since they're an ally they never expect it...

    2. Zoyous

      Spin it out!

  24. Cool watching the NASA/SpaceX Dragon launch today!

    1. Prosystemsearch

I wonder how far up into space they will go on that mission?
