This is a kids game I take it?
-
Well, I will probably get both versions (because I collect as much Bubsy as reasonably possible) but will set up a PC to play that version.

So the thing is the Sega Gopher basically which has been out since 2007 in Korea. So was not a bad firmware conversion they did. Otherwise I doubt they would have had the SD support except that the hardware was already there.
That said, like Nathan Strum I stopped buying the Flashbacks at the second one and would not have bought the AFB except that it had the ability to load games. People like Nukey Shaw have found ways to hack quite a few games that were not working initially and homebrewers have specially made versions to accommodate.
Atgames talks about making wireless controllers possible and other upgrades. Honestly, working toward 100% emulation would be the greatest move of all.
As it is, I love it and glad I bought it.

Hey Darkhog! Ok, here is what I know so far. The game engine for Jaguar Bubsy is already based on the Sega Genesis code. So many similarities there. I have decompiled or collected from places most of the code and graphics.
If you are able to use the modplayer taken from Toy Story, then the mods (music) files are available.
The backdrops are in .cry or other formats used on the Jaguar. Those could be converted.
What I am just starting to understand are the formats used for the Bubsy FFT characters.
Also just starting to understand the map setup. I know that the Genesis uses a tile system. The map editor for FFT also used a type of tile format in a map editor But just barely starting to understand that. So anyway, all things are possible if you throw enough time at it.
We'll probably have Bubsy FFT ported to the Genesis by 2030 at this rate.

Ok, this is selling me to get that LCD mod. That is just beautiful.

This is actually cool. Been a fan of Warlords for years and one I love to break out to play against three other friends. Thanks for doing this.

Sorry to hear this. At the very worst enjoy what time you have left. :/

Thanks! I'm mostly about the Bobcat and I just tinker with things to get the best result. I'll say aside from working with various versions and utilities I'm not much of a hacker/programmer/decompiler though I do dabble.
One thing that has thinking this morning morning is the .vgm is a stripped down .wav file if I understand it correctly. Plays great even on the Sega Gopher. Why not make a .vgm of the super nintendo version of Bubsy (which was superior) and play for the background tracks? I am just amazed at what .vgm's are and how well the Genesis can play them.

I liked the band of adventurers on this quest. Had a look and feel of the New Hope era, and really helps cement who despite the Rebels were to let a farm boy fly a X-Wing. As someone said, and I agree, my fourth favorite Star Wars movie.

See with a Atari Flashback Portable you could have a system that would nag Artie about being able to see more than the living room and actually go places.
Oh sorry, that would require more drawn cells than your usual five.

BOOO!!! Add a Atari Flashback Portable to the strip. At least with SD card support they would always have new material.

Laughs.

Saddened to see Nintendo take a beating.
When people think of the first system, they think of not Atari many times but Nintendo. I'm sure if Nintendo stops making console systems at that point, like Atari, there will be many diehard Nintendo fans carrying that banner.
-
Yep.
-
I had the radio controlled joysticks back in the 80's so I already knew these (though a different technology) was a bad idea.
-
Laughs.
-
Yep. Why I didn't buy the Flashback 7, just one more game than the six.
But the Flashback Portable I am enjoying the hell out of!
-
Ok how is the Flashback "evil". Keeps Atari in the retail stores, shows new generations what Atari is as a game system. Has led the way to further Atari game development. Sounds quite good.

I was published on the Atgames site with my review!
Just an amazing little unitA bit thicker and longer than your standard cell phone this is the portable Atari 2600 that I was waiting for. The screen is nice. The D pad is a good though a tad touchy. You quickly get used to the D-Pad as you try out all the built in games. And when you have had fun with that, you can load other games (rom images) that you have on the SD card.
As a retro-nut I have all the original Atari systems. And when something retro comes out I think it is cool but I may or may not get it. But a Atari 2600 that fits easily in your pocket? I ordered this as quick as I could.
Now if Atgames could only use the same mold, same screen, SD card support, and make an Atari LYNX Flashback. Now THAT would make many more Atari fans very happy. Especially if it had TV out support.
In the meantime, thanks Atgames for this amazing product. -
WOW after Bubsy you've really been cranking them out. Ok, that is three podcasts I didn't give feedback for, apologies, no more of that.

It was fun while it lasted.
